The problem I have is when movies / shows are really low that you can’t hear them and then an action scene blows your speakers at the same volume. Watching movies at night when the kids are asleep are nearly impossible. Normal talking sounds like whispers so you turn it up a bit then a car explodes in the movie and then so does the TV irl. (Edited for grammar)
Pro tip if you store your files on PC in a totally definitely legitimate manner: The program BOX4 is what I use to process audio and normalize my entire library, I don't even have to touch the volume between different shows any more let alone between scenes.
The actor's acting was incredible, I can feel the emotions and sadness. I can literally see the darkness. I don't know why the staff is not happy, the director is a genius. Just brilliant
whoever hired this director is a genius. the lighting and depth on the character really shows his personality.not to mention the context and the morals are so deep and definitely not a wast of time! I would 1000000% recommend this movie.
I still can't believe that the Battle of Winterfell in GoT was as dark as it was. One of the most expensive battle scenes ever recorded, and you couldn't even see it.
loool just watched the battle by you tube because you said this. What is this ? Sometimes I couldn't even tell what is happening because everything is just dark.
Which GOT? Later season? They suck ass and they are just a collective fart of two buffoons DnD, Earlier seasons are a perfection with the source of George.
@@cyclops-bts6832 Did you ever watch the episode where they killed the night king? I was watching the behind the scenes and there was actually light and you could see all the details. The problem is... They're trying to make it realistic: In the dark night you can't see anything. Yeah but the audience as well. Lord of the Rings made it right. Even in dark scenes you could see what's happening.
The fact that the director has sunglasses on literally makes this 💀 Edit: If y’all thought I was gonna thank u for the likes, then u would be wrong, L get trolled 🥱
Fun fact: This dark movie trend started when digital cameras were used to shoot movies. These cameras tend to work better in darkness when compared to their analog counterpart. A few years later and the look become the norm.
Well, given that the pendulum swung from MAXIMUM LENS FLARE!!!! to minimum lumens, all we need to do is get someone to dampen the oscillations and we can finally SEE again.
@@Cheezitnator something being less lighthearted than your average family-friendly Marvel flick , is not automatically "emo" or "dark"... You probably think movies like the Dark Knight or Watchmen should have 5 jokes per minute
All of my marvel movie experiences have come from a small little tv in a room with way too much natural light. Same with Star Wars. Half of the scenes make me want to throw something because there is NO LIGHTING WHATSOEVER. The Kenobi series really exposed this problem. Edit: And if you REALLY want to have a bad time, try and watch DC movies on my small TV. The Dark Knight trilogy was basically just a pitch black screen on my TV 😂
they have sufficient set lighting but the image's colour, contrast, and brightness is determined manually by the one who did the video editor. It is because their digital camera output "RAW" images and they had to manually do colour grading according to the video editor's (or director's) preference, or they are simply noob & use wrong settings.
It might not be the case for you but the TV can have a huge impact on this..I used to have a cheap/old one and the moment the scene was dark, I couldn't see anything, even with the lights off.
wtf ??? Well I guess that is your TVs fault then, I have never came across anyone complaining about lighting in Marvel films, that is a constant complain in DC films though. If you are having brightness problem with Marvel films that is definitely your TVs fault, lol.
This was so relatable. I see no point in extra-dark shots besides specific moments. Maybe it was the cinema I watched it, but The Batman seemed way so dark everywhere, almost all the time. It got too annoying by the time I was halfway through the movie.
Steven, this video changed my life. My entire view of everything that exists in this world, in fact, even in the entire universe. I can never look at anything I know the same way again. This video represents emotions that most humans could never understand. But I can. Thanks to this videp I was awakened to many things previously considered unimaginable. Thank you for this exquisite video, I will never forget this experience.
I always found it annoying how dark some movies were, I’d always have to rewind and turn up my brightness. I was always wondering why directors and cinematographers kept it that dark. Now I know, thanks Failure, I mean Steven.
I CRIED LAUGHING AT THIS FOR 5 MINUTES after it was over! My 4 year old daughter thought I was having a breakdown. OMG the levels of darkness took me OWWWT.
The cousin to this is action scenes, where they have 10 cuts to different angles for every swing and an obscene amount of camera shake.. and maybe throw in a cut to what other important characters are doing at the time too, even if they're not even in the same scene/location
As cheesy as they were, this was where old westerns and kung fu movies excelled. You could follow the progression of the fight easily and see the "tactics" at play. IMO they slowed it down a little too much, but at least people won't get vertigo in the theaters or have no idea what's going on during a long string of fights.
This happened to me with Stranger Things, too. Even some interviews with the actors reacting have Joseph Quinn leaning forwards and squinting all the time. Can relate. 😅
And in GoT, and some other shows / movies, The Expanse was often underlit as well ... Batman wasn't the worst case of this trend :( Directors tend to forget all of us don't own oled screens, it became even worse since LCDs have universally bad contrast ratios compared to most of the good old CRTs, some of them are even pedantic saying people should not watch it on phones/tablets (they might not be completely wrong on this one though) or that people don't know how to set up contrast on their TV when the technology is deeply flawed in itself. It could be argued for movies that they might at least look good in theaters, but I remember for SOLO some only used 1 of the 2 bulbs in their projectors because these things aren't cheap and have a limited life expectancy, people could barely see what happened on screens in lots of scenes.

Do you know a new information platform named " Ganjing World " was launched recently in NY? It is so so so different from all the others, I'm trying now!
This is so true. I can’t stand watching shows or movies anymore because you can’t see shit. Seriously you can’t. And god forbid the light from your room or outside or from your iPhone shines near the tv then you really can’t see shit because it makes it darker somehow. It’s insane. 😂😂
Arguably the worst offender of this I’ve seen was Alien Vs Predator Requiem. You legit couldn’t see anything for over half the film. Didn’t help the film sucked as well
It's so dark you start to wonder, if they planned it that way or you just suddenly became blind. These are great. Love the new on movie sets videos. Great content as always!
When you go on vacation with your parents and they complain about how they can’t sleep because it’s just not dark enough but all the lights and windows are literally already shut...
This is so true lmfaoooo; too many Marvel movies are required to be scene in IMAX 4K movie theaters but it’s damn near impossible to see some of the high quality “low-light” scenes that show so much of a characters emotion without words even conveyed. I’ve had the experience of watching end game in theaters and watching it back home on my crappy 44 inch tv (2k); the one I watched at home was just horrible to see after watching it in theaters.
When I walked out of the theater from seeing the new Batman movie (that was waaay too long of a movie) I had so much eye-strain I thought my eyes were going to implode
The minute the director said cut my Internet cut out and I freaked like I genuinely thought something had happened to my phone but the WiFi came back about 40 seconds later
Thank you for letting me know it's not just me! I thought I was just getting 'old eyes'. Too dark drives me crazy and also when the background music is louder than the people talking... what is wrong with these directors? as someone else said.. it's like they forget they are supposed to be doing this for an audience.
I love the implication that the actor's been on the floor since the take with the crash/glass shattering noise, but the director didn't notice for ages
I love the darkness! You're a genius for creating a movie all blinds and with 20/20 visions can relate. Thank you for promoting equality. You deserve a medal of honor.
I would like to thank you for: 1. not using swears in your videos. 2. Only using yourself as all the characters 3. Showing a humble you at the end of the vids YOU, Mr. Steven are one of a kind 👏🏻
I have been asked on multiple occasions by my mom why I only watch Netflix late at night. I'm going to show her this as an explanation 😂 All I see is damn window blinds reflected on my screen if I try watching anything before it's fully dark.
I find the ambiance and emotional charisma exhibited by the expressive set dressing, as well as the tempestuous affect of the nonchalantly immersed actor, invoke fleeting feelings of bewilderment and triviality due to scarceness of conventional illumination. Two thumbs way up.
The irony is that Spielberg would wear sunglasses to get a better sense of how set lighting was going to look captured on film. If it seemed too dim, he'd crank the lights up a bit.
Steven He is an auteur in the truest meaning of the term . After parading his incredible thespian skills in front of the camera , he has now gotten behind the camera to show how directing should be done . This incredible one man talent show is a true master of the game bringing to light the deepest and darkest of all Star Wars quotes :- " The Dark always wins . Every victory of the Light , eventually, is a victory of the Dark " . Hope he has time to prepare his Oscar speech . 🙂
He is writer, director, actor, key grip AND best boy, also does his own stunts -- at least, I think he bumped into something at the end, but it was too dark for me to see.
I just realised that Steven is using the tips which Tyler fleischman told in his recent video about thumbnails. Steven even dropped a comment there. Steven actually wants to improve more and more which is actually a good thing for a youtuber. Great videos always Steven!🙌
(This is a true story) It's to dark... I told the guy working "I can't see the movie, it's to dark" He told me " Are you blind?" I go... " Bruh I just said I can't SEE!!"😂
Dang my man is living the dream. I always remember when I was younger that I wished that when I earned a lot of money that the first thing I would get is a RED cinema camera. Cinematography and filmmaking has always been my go to hobby and I always dreamed of having an awesome camera to shoot with. Glad you are able to live out your dreams buddy! I can see you really like the camera haha.
Every Hollywood director last 20 years: When the CGI is shite and you don't have the budget or time to fix it, turn down the opacity, saturation, hue, and brightness and make it a dark room or night scene.
