One of my all-time favorite box sets! I love the artwork on it. The other thing that people don’t talk about when it comes to Phantasm is that hauntingly beautiful score. Sick video as always, homie! 🤘🏻
You're preaching to the choir. I love the theme of "Phantasm." It doesn't quite eclipse "Halloween's signature theme, but it ain't for a lack of trying. Of course, you may feel differently. Also, I've always felt the 80's song "Metro" by Berlin has a bit of the "Phantasm" (or Phantasm-esque) theme baked into it.
@@coreyc5982 I’ll have to give that Metro song a listen 🎧🎶 Thanks for the recommendation, Corey. No, I would not put the Phantasm theme above Halloween’s signature theme, but I would say that it’s in the same league. Another amazing piece of music for me would be from the film Puppet Master.
@@anthonyshorrorandmore I never got into the "Puppet Master" films, but I'll definitely take your word for it. Now, you're going to laugh at me, but another horror movie score that I have always gotten a kick out of is Harry Manfredini and Michael Zager's funky disco theme for "Friday The 13th, Part III in 3-D." 😄
Would love to hear your thoughts on the Arrow boxset of Phantasm that they put out. That’s the one I own, and now I’m curious to see how it stacks up against the boxset in this video.
I too own that Arrow boxset and actually prefer it over this one. The artwork on the box and all the cases is excellent plus the quality of the Arrow cases is better too.
Yeah, this has to be one of the best box sets ever made. I lucked out and got one of these at Best Buy back when Best Buy still had a great physical media selection.
Good call man! I love the Phantasm movies and the first two are two of my favorite horror movies. Phantasm II is my favorite of the franchise but the original is a VERY close second! Doing great work Christian and keep the fantastic content coming please!
I have the Sphere Collection, which is pretty sweet but the discs are buried at the bottom. I like that one better. Phantasm II is the best in the series.
@@DDuck777 well it's weird..its a large white box with the sphere on top of the flat disc case. There's the white set and the black.. is that what you have?
I'd say Hellraiser has the best box sets. "The Scarlet Box" and "Quartet of Torment" are both fantastic looking and packed with bonuses. Also, I've been watching a lot of what "Well Go USA" has been bringing out lately. Overall, very good stuff. Mostly really fun movies that are worth owning.
I missed out on the original boxset. I remember when they were at my local Bestbuy. There must have been two or three of them in stock and within a week they sold like pancakes at a Sunday brunch. I eventually got the second boxset with the sphere and even that one sold out very quickly. It may not be the original boxset, but I'm very happy with it. I've seen both versions of the Well-Go boxsets on Ebay priced between $100 and 150.00 dollars. Some are asking more of course. This is probably old news, but If anyone owns a region-free Blu-ray or 4K player, Arrow Video has a Region-B "Phantasm" boxset that is priced much cheaper than the Well-Go versions. I've seen the Arrow boxset priced at around 55.00 dollars give or take. Also there is a barebones "Phantasm" collection set priced at around 25.00 dollars.
I remember when this was announced it was hard to decide but I went with the UK Arrow box set that came with the sphere. I just liked the packaging better and I didn’t know much about Well Go so I went with the company I knew. It’s a great box set.
Phantasm has a crazy good box set track record. I got their most recent set that WellGo put out, and i'm pretty satisfied with it, even if it's kinda annoying to get to the discs.
Bought this the day it was released. Top 5 favorite horror franchise for me and one of my favorite box sets along with the Halloween, Friday the 13th, and Psycho box sets.
I have the Arrow Sphere set that we got in the UK. The sphere looks so cool, and a beautiful display piece. I'm not sure how Well Go's version holds up in comparison to that. I also think Arrow's set had more extras, but could be wrong? No 4K uncut scan of II though. Hoping Arrow re-releases the series on UHD ala Hellraiser.
I bought this when it came out, but remember having a hard time finding a copy that was not beat to shit. Went to so many stores. Yea, I agree, I think this is the best one. Not only better than that other Well Go box set, which I also bought, but it is also better than the Arrow box set they did with the Sphere. Got that too. This is def. the best of them.
Also, I remember that Second version of the Well Go box set, with the Sphere. They were planning on releasing 2 versions. 1 Black box version and 1 White box version. Showed pics like that for awhile. Then last minute, just the white was released.
Really nice box set. Now only if the Nightmare franchise could get a box set like the phantasm one. All the films including the 2010 film a book and poster.
I got this from a Walmart for like $30 and I bought the Arrow set with the ball and also the Phantasm I+II double pack that was released with the uncut pt 2.. horror movie simp, I know..
This will be remembered as one of the best physical media releases of all time. Well Go on par here with Arrow and the rest. Just an unprecedented physical media edition/release.
I wanted to own that one, and sadly I'm not even a big fan of 3 & 4. I have 1 & 2 (both of which I adore, and I agree with you on 2, its my favorite too!). The Well Go blu of 1 remastered and the Scream Factory disc of 2 are both just perfect releases, so I couldn't justify buying the boxed set.
and the ending of past Mike hearing their future selves mistaking it for the wind is a fantastic and honestly beautiful conclusion to the series. Ravager has elements I really like (I think it's Reggie Bannister's best performance in his career), but it should have ended with IV.
@@nighttimevideo I liked much of the sphere work in Ravager, and I appreciated the twist-Reg went missing that night in the desert, and not Mike, but in my head canon, Oblivion was the final Phantasm film. That ending was poetically beautiful.
I own several copies of Phantasm. This and ROTLD are my two favorite franchises of all time. I own this box set, the box set that came with the sphere, all the Anchor Bay dvds, the steel books, the Scream Factory edition of Phantasm 2, and vanticulur blu-ray editions. I just can't part with them.
I’ve always liked the white colour arrow release with the sphere in it. I don’t own it yet, but that’s the one I’m gonna look to get next month. The set ya showing is cool too obviously.
Allow me to clarify why Child's Play was really sold to Universal: United Artists was actually in danger of bankruptcy back in 1989, and while the company was being shopped around, it was real close to being acquired by an Australian media company Qintex, which would've forbade them from making horror films. United Artists wanted to save the horror properties they owned to prevent the franchises from being killed early, and Universal was just the highest bidder on Child's Play. Funny enough, Disney was actually in the ring for buying the franchise as well. Just thought I'd correct you on that, sorry if I sound condescending.
I tried getting this set but it's a little bit out of my price range I do have the double pack actually I had no trouble getting the replacement discs plus got to keep the original ones so that's a win
Thanks for the update - l will seek it out. But l remember seeing the second film in the theater, and when it came to the 'telepathy scene' people were howling with laughter. It really lost the audience at that point, including me. But maybe they got it back on track?
see I think the Phantasm films still haven't received proper treatment on Blu-Ray let alone 4K. The artwork on that thing is like Norman Rockwell or something....sooo bad!
Man, why do these movies have to be region A or B locked 😢. I live in Russia and even if I could somehow get my hands on these releases their still region locked
