The Bible says, "no one knows the mind of God", but that doesn't stop theists from telling you all about Gods wishes, traits, goals & what he wants you to do with your life.

Craig is the embodiment of DOUBLETHINK from 1984. Killing children is bad, except if Big Brother commands you to do it.

I talked about William Lane Craig to my religious mother(we used to hear his stuff on the radio if not daily, at least weekly) and her response was "It's out of context". I offered to let her watch the interview to hear William explain the context in his own words and she refused. She then said, "those people were evil for not following god so it was right to kill them". I asked her if it's moral for islamists to kill people for not following their religion and she said no. I asked if it's moral for israel to kill palestinian children who've done nothing wrong to which she replied the children are terrorists. I asked about the babies and she said no, that would be wrong. Only after pointing out that the bible specified god commanded the slaughter of the babies too did she start to show signs of cognitive dissonance. Religion is one hell of a drug.

That "the children are living a perfect life in heaven" line gave me a flashback to when ISIS or the Taliban said the same thing after blowing up a school bus.

When I was a conservative Christian (I am now an agnostic atheist) I also internally justified this genocide in Canaan with the argument "It was God's will. And God is good." It's frightening what Christianity did with me and what also some other religions can do with people in general.

Also William Lane Craig: Genocide and baby-murdering is good when God does it, but bad if you do the same thing, because Divine Command Theory.

At about 48 minutes the moral bankruptcy is astounding... "Don't defend your land from invaders, run away! See? No one had to die!" He also doesn't even know the definition of "genocide" which does NOT mean hunting down and killing every single individual of a group.

How you are able to listen to William Lane Craig for so long without losing your sanity is beyond me.

This guy pretends to be an intellectual but his philosophy is quite literally "things are good when dad says so and they're wrong when dad says so, no further thinking required" This is quite literally his position, unfortunately there's no exageration.

Notice one other thing about children going straight to heaven. If you were to ask them why God didn't just create everything directly in heaven, most say that God has to give you a choice. But if that's true, when does a child that dies make that choice?

I can think of myself as an American and acknowledge/denounce the genocides of the USA. I can think of myself as a socialist/communist and acknowledge/denounce the genocides of the USSR, etc. There is absolutely no excuse for any Christian to defend the genocides in the bible - all of the Christians I know find it effortless to acknowledge/condemn them.

You're absolutely right about Alex begging the question. I think it's partly due to being deep into philosophy, where the idea that in order to answer "the most important questions" you need philosophy. Philosophy as a practice assumes that these "why are we here?" sort of questions are not only valid questions, but the most important questions possible. It's received wisdom among philosophers. But they've never demonstrated that the questions even make sense.

Imagine thinking that killing real, actual humans deserve death because they kill fictional humans (that are actually just pixels on a screen and nothing more) in video games.

If you read later parts of the Old Testament, especially the writings of the prophets, you know that the Israelites committed idolitry, adultery, sexual immorality, and incest after Israel had been established. Also, let's consider what actually happened according to the Bible. If the Canaanites were so immoral, why didn't God just snap his fingers and make them disappear? Instead, he encouraged his people to kill them. That violated the commandment "You shall not commit murder". Why would God encourage his people to sin?

If in the absence of an authority issuing a command there is no morality, then morality is indistinguishable from obedience.

I don't know when I last heard such a well articulated, intelligent, logical and rational argument on such a serious biblical subject. Arguments were made, some of which I have not heard elsewhere, and some of which I have not articulated for myself, but I can fully sympathize with. He claims that god defines what is good, but then he presupposes that being good entails being loving, fair and just; and then assumes that therefor god must be those things. If he actually believed the „moral theory“ he claims to defend, you‘d think the argument should be „God is vengeful and angry, therefor those things must be good even if we don‘t understand why“. But he doesn‘t do that, because that position would be indefensible - instead he tries to hide that good already is defined without god.

Some people probably built it up in their minds as Mordor, some irredeemable land that’s barbaric and cruel. Only we finally see the Fire Nation and it’s actually nice there. The people are okay, the land is fertile, if you were told it wasn’t the Fire Nation, you would believe it. It’s just that the land is being run by a military totalitarian regime, intent on conquering foreign lands to enact supremacy. Some compared it to how just because a land is run by an evil government doesn’t mean the land is rife with evil, others say it’s similar to how America was acting during the Bush Administration, launching endless war upon the Middle East. At the heart of it, our protagonists were only kids who were coming of age and able to see the world with fresh eyes. The adults (or at least a majority of the adults) were worn down by war, more intent on slaughtering the other side than laying down arms. Our hero himself was a pacifist, hoping to find a peaceful solution while everyone around him wanted him to end everything in a violent bout.
