@@rabarebra Bullet for my Valentine made a cover of AC/DC's "Whole Lotta Rosie" which is 100% badass. The voice is clearly different tho, but i'd argue that is superior to the original in every other way. What do you mean by 'magic'? Slight correction on Judas Priest, the Turbo album was intended to be released as a double album called Twin Turbo, however it was split due to financial issues. The commercial side of the album was released first as Turbo, but a more classic Priest sounding side was released two years later as Ram It Down. Painkiller was released afterwards as a more revolutionary sounding record combining the OG Priest sound with Thrash

I remember Andy Taylor left Duran Duran and became sort of an American style Hair Metal/meat and potatoes solo rock artist. It was quite a shift from the stylish British New Wave/New Romantics look/sound Duran Duran had. Granted, he had done Power Station with John Taylor and that was heavier more guitar focused than DD but it still had the stylish funk elements of DD. This is very true. Fans of something are generally the best and worst part of it at the same time. Fans of something in general are fickle, and have no idea what they want. When they get what they think they want, they don’t like it. And then when a band or someone else does something they want to do that doesn’t cater to fans, it’s also spurned. That’s why I’m glad people like Bill Burr still exist who don’t cater to anyone.

IF a band changes their sound for creative and experimental purposes, more power to them. Even if I don't like it, I'll usually respect the audaciousness. The problem is the vast majority of these bands aren't "taking risks". They're doing the exact opposite. They're dumbing down the technical, progressive, and unique aspects of their music with the express purpose of selling more albums to a wider audience. They're changing their sound to a more radio-friendly, usually-lighter format and jumping on the popular trends of the era so the masses (who typically shunned their original style of music) will buy their albums. And yes, often times also because their record companies tell them to do all of the above. This is the very definition of selling out. And if listening to your favorite bands from rebellious, unique, quirky, original, powerful, unconventional genres like punk and metal turning into the complete opposite of all that doesn't make your skin crawl and cause every fiber of your being to want to scream out in frustration, I don't know why you bother listening to music.

I have just started watching so I have no idea all the bands they will mention but I can certainly think of a few HOWEVER my reaction is 180 degrees as coming from a Musical family myself, and one who dabbled in music in 70's and 80's to now just having my writing/entertainment offerings just in book novels, I get that sometimes people GROW (read: change a bit) as they get older and others try cling to their pasts. I think of Van Halen when Women and Children lp came out and especially when the tune JUMP later came out (Eddie wanted to learn and explore other Instruments, I as a THE POLICE Fan didn't get all NUTso when Sting decided to learn the Sax and Synchronicity changed their direction, and ultimately Sting's desire to leave and go almost a completely different direction, changing Genre's several times (I had all The Police lps, but while I still "enjoyed" Sting, again able to "appreciate" the desire to "change up" and "explore" other things I never bought a Sting solo album)) and the furious response of some Fans that demanded they do what THEY WANTED (stay 100% nothing but a copy of their former selves) rather than what I think most Artists want (but not all have the GUTS to do) which is a desire to explore other Avenues of their potential creativity and not be a creature of habit. Is that SELLING OUT to want to "explore" one's full talent and other "options" or is it SELLING OUT to stay stuck with being a complete COPY of themselves into forever (recording new songs, basically 100% same, just different lyrics)?!?!? I know some will get an AH-HA from that, others will just get their Panties-in-a-bunch over it. Did they SIGN A CONTRACT WITH YOU to provide YOU what you wanted, or do they remain HONEST WITH THEMSELVES which may be a whole lot more dimensional (do many other things they've always WANTED to do, rather than what EXPECTED of them to do) than many of their FanBase want/desire/demand?!?!? Original Fans CAN CHOOSE to go along on the JOURNEY OF GROWTH with them, OR NOT, that is up to both the Artist(s)/Band(s) and the Fans to CHOOSE, but neither has RIGHT TO DEMAND something of the other.

Moral of the story, Fans and critics suck. Just enjoy the music and embrace when your favorite artists tries something new. Half the time, history is kind to their output. Listen to the BR Into the Unknown album, it is actually awesome. They did rip off a Pink Floyd song from Animal pretty blatantly. When listening to that album, they were teenagers still, not a bad effort for what it is.

At 55 years old I absolutely hate this narrative that the moment "Smells Like Teen Spirit" hit the radio grunge was the only thing. I love the Seattle sound but at the same time I know me and a lot of people I knew at that time still listened to the hairbands a lot of people were listening to gangster rap but bands like Metallica chili peppers Aerosmith we're all having huge success doing that same time frame.😂
