I feel Rock Lee better embodies the show's message about hard work and dedication and think he could have been the main character. Naruto is okay, but pretty gifted when you think about it. Naruto has so much going for him that Lee does not have. Also, if Lee were the main character, the show could have been called "Leaf Hurricane" or something, which not only sounds cool but could also have different meanings. For example, he is in the Leaf Village, so the title could shoutout where he is from. Leaf Hurricane is a move he does. Also, it could be that people are calling him a leaf hurricane, which would be a fitting name for someone that wears green and can run in a circle so fast that it kind of just looks like the wind is forming a circle like a hurricane does.

The things is, Naruto is no mean talented, he's just secretly has privillege. Its like both Lee and naruto has the work ethic, its just naruto has more resources while. Sometimes what makes naruto gifted become his obstacle. Naruto always get failed at the academy before discovering kage bunshin because his chakra too big he cant control it normally like other kids do. He also has to work really hard and find a way to compensate to learn rasengan because again, his chakra reserve to big for his small brain. Because of Kurama he cant do fusion with ma and pa, resulting in him having to come off with creative but limiting idea, because having the clone being the battery limit his total of kagebunshin and overall output not to mention if the clone is far away he has to summon it first. All of these is example of naruto having to work harder because of his supposed to be advantage.

@@AFAIK-l8k lee has chakra(hence him standing on water and on walls in the manga) he doesn't have the ability to use jutsu, he can still control chakra to open the gates or speed himself up. They make this more clear in the manga since guy specifically said lee is bad at jutsu. Chidori boosts speed. Sasuke was learning the chidori for the exam's, so in order for him to reach Lee's speed he needed literal lightning to help him do so. Lee's Pure chakra control is controlling himself(Standing on walls and water, enhancing speed and strength) Jutsu uses chakra to control "nature"(Naruto controlling the wind to make a rasangan, Sasuke controlling electricity to make a chidori) So Sasuke used external means to do it Lee only used internal means to do it.
