When seagulls ATTACKED my drone! DJI Mini 2

Ok guys, I may have jumped the gun on thinking I was recovered from my current health issues, so with me in no shape to fly, here's the day I nearly lost my drone to a DJI Mini 2 bird attack. Apologies for the wildly overexposed second part, but I kinda didn't know I was about to be attacked by 7 seagulls 😨. I had to replace 2 props after this incident, but I was lucky to somehow fly it home. When I'm better, I'll be back on my travels around Ireland, with plenty of beautiful cinematic footage.

I wasn't even going to upload this due to the overexposure, but what the heck, I'm in no condition to fly atm. I'll probably have to go into hospital for a few days, but I'll be right back in the air soon 👍

Man, that was scary, I am surprised it stayed in the air, thank goodness. I haven't been around seagulls very much, but here under bridges shallows build there nest and they don't like drones at all. Heck they chase big hawks off also. Glad you didn't loose it.

Very lucky, I was in sports mode at the time, so the drone didn't hit its max title angle and kill the motors. 👍

That would be pretty scary. I have had some pigeons and gulls get close to my Mavic 2 Pro but haven't experienced that with my Mini or MIni 2 yet. Recently I did have some ducks fly close to my Mini 2. Thanks for sharing.

It was touch and go, 2 of the props were mangled and the drone was hard to fly, but I guess I dodged a bullet that time

Wow, that was a close call. Great that the drone did not crash and survived. I guess breeding season is not a good time to fly at the shorelines. The seagulls seem to be a bit more agressive during that time. I don't know what health issues you are refering to, but I hope you will recover fully, soon, my friend. 👍

The only way it righted itself was because I pushed it into sports mode, unfortunately I then had a motor block message pop up, meaning I was flying one motor down for a bit. The birds nearly ripped 2 props off, so it was a nightmare to fly back. Luckily, after a change of props, and a change of pants 😂.....I was back in the air

Definitely, the damage to the props made it very difficult to fly, but I got it home somehow. I changed out the props and was back flying an hour later ....just not there. I learned a valuable lesson!

Oh man! I pretty much lost 2 props in this assault, and was very lucky to somehow control the drone home. Damn birds are attacking drone pilots everywhere at this time of year. I hope you get back flying soon 👍

Been there , best maneuver to escape is to go straight up . They don't attack the bigger drones like the mavic 3 as much , seems to be the minis they feel more threatened by

Thanks man, in fairness, I did over a 1,000 Kilometers of flights over the coast of Ireland, and this was the worst attack so far. It definitely resulted in a visit to the bathroom 😂

@@lebuzz66 I racked up thousands of km droning through the lockdowns, I think that's what saved the drone that day. I put a scary decal on my drones now, I'm hoping that keeps the seagulls away 🤣

After the other weekends little incident I've painted fluorescent orange bits on the drone. I'll go back to the coast this coming weekend and let you know what happens with the gulls. Had one come straight at the Mini 2 when I was at Scarborough.
