I feel Serena's serve was good in 2015, but it was below her lofty standards. Even though most players can only dream of serving like that, it was below her 2010 and 2012-2013 level. She served great in the last 2 matches of the 2015 Australia open, and some matches at Wimbledon, yet her serve didn't dominate all the time. She had to rely on her great return of serve which I feel is the best of all time on the women's side, as well as her incredible ground game. Injuries also began to take a toll on her. She was sick when she won the Australia open and French Open. She also missed the semi finals of Indian wells because of injuries. Her all court game and mental strength really shone when her serve wasn't so dominant.

Given the emotion Serena must have been feeling in that first match given that it was her first time back since the IW incident in 2001, Niculescu was one of the worst opponents for Serena to draw. Yet she still won in straight sets despite the challenge and emotion because she is the GOAT.
