В биографический книге о Дейве (Trevor Baker - Dave Gahan: Depeche Mode & The Second Coming) сказано, что он по предложению его друга ударника Виктора Эндриццо (Victor Indrizzo) Дейв пригласил музыканта Нокса Чендлера (Knox Chandler) для записи партии струнных и соло на виолончели: "Дэйв и его друг, ударник Виктор Эндриццо, нередко обсуждали перспективы сотрудничества. Виктор предлагал привлечь к работе своего приятеля, Нокса Чендлера. Дэйв слышал о Ноксе, который также жил в Нью Йорке и пригласил его поработать над аранжировкой струнных инструментов и сыграть на виолончели на When The Body Speaks для Exciter. Mark Bell: "In the past I think they would have got Martin to play the guitar as perfect as he could. Then it probably would have been edited to make in even more in time before Dave sang over the top. So I sat them in the studio and recorded them performing together. I don't think they've done that for 16 years or more - apart from live performance. Then we wanted to take the acoustic aspect further and make it sound even more like an 'Unplugged' - type thing. Dave said he's got this friend who's a string arranger, so Martin and myself put the chords together and Knox did the rest". (Stripped: Depeche mode by Jonathan Miller). Dave Gahan: "I'm not one of the most confident singers in the world. Mark was really encouraging, and he liked what I was doing. I need a pat on the back; I need that encouragement; I need to know that I'm bringing something to Martin's songs. Otherwise I wouldn't bother. I know I am - in my heart, but sometimes it's like, 'What am I doing here? Martin can sing this song. Why doesn't he just do it himself?' I felt like that a few times during the recording of [the] album, but Mark said: 'What you bring here is important; it's really valuable; it's part of Depeche Mode; and it's part of what becomes the song'.
