When the watch is better than its specs... 

Agree 100% Turtle is such a cool Iconic design and the range of options and dials makes their is something for almost any tool watch fan. The Nemo is a bit much for me but I love the batman and latest dark manta.

After watching your first Nemo Turtle video years ago, I purchased my Nemo from Gnomon watches. I enjoy it for many of the reasons you stated and it will always remain in my collection. Thanks for another interesting video.

The best turtle ever in this combination, beautiful orange Hermes dial, really beautiful, build like a beast, real head Turner, limited quantity, appreciated by watch lovers and collectors, conversation starter, amazing👌👌👌👌👌👌👌

Love that orange dial! I feel the same way about my Orient Ray II Orange. Ranks really low on specs vs my other watches. But man it sucks me back in time after time after time. Enjoy it good health!

Great looking summer watch. I get what you're saying about enjoying this over higher spec'd pieces but I think you can when you have great quality in your collection as you do but if you were a 1 watch guy you'd want the spec's and quality.... even if it is a steinhart 🤫🤣

Funny how our collecting preferences change. A year or two ago, you were a minimalist and Random Rob was exploding at the seams with watches. Fast forward to now, and your collection has expanded quite a bit and RR is on a one watch diet. Nice to see you bouncing around and enjoying things. :)

Some interesting thoughts Bruce, it's always good to hear different opinions on different watches from the community. We all have different tastes and preferences and these change over time (pun intended). I have to agree that sometimes a watch that costs a lot less than a much more expensive watch may get more wrist time. Not just because of the look or how it wears on the wrist but maybe that something else that we may be drawn to for the mood that we are in. In my rotation my most expensive watch quite often gets less wrist time than say one of my G-Shocks but other times it may get many days more. Specs and perceived value are not everything for sure.

I just finished this video and felt compelled to take off my MM200R SPB187 and wear my Nemo SBDY023. Love this watch. I would buy a lime green dialed Turtle as well.

This is completely true. For me this is the Seiko SRPA87 - there are watches that might have not been expensive but just give you something special as a feeling when worn.

That ninja turtle is a grail watch and I’m envious every time I see old videos. Rob had to murder one for an SKX mod. Luckily Mimo carries the ninja samurai and I’m in love. Keep up the great work!

Great colourway. Love seikos, never had a turtle but it looks fab . When I look back at your videos Bruce you got a lot more excited about owning a 051 than you did the hulk or VC. And that's the thing about collecting watches, it's not about the cost, it's about how they make you feel. And seiko have a way of grabbing you, that nobody beats overall. Yes they are charging more now, but so are omega and rolex, if you can get one.

Owned a couple of Turtles, A Pepsi and a Batman. Great watches. I had mine on a jubilee, it fits the classic shape better. I saw the blue coral Sumo in the video, can’t believe you sold it, it’s one of the best looking Seiko divers IMHO.

Colorful dials seem to draw the eye to them all the time after looking and black dials all the time. Nice review of a nice watch. 🎰

I agree the Turtle is amazing, my first run green King Turtle gets alot of wrist time! I switched my stock bracelet to an Uncle Seiko Z199 jubilee bracelet, a game changer. It has a killer taper to a mega slim pressure clasp with a ridiculous amount of micro adjustments. The finish is slightly different but I really recommend it for a great Turtle braclet option.

Agree with Bruce about Seiko wrist time and overall package over specs. Have so many well known Swiss brands A-Z that cost much more but , something just magical about Seikos that makes others collect dust.

Cool video. I agree with having "out of the ordinary" watches, especially in colorway. I think they did do an Orange Sunburst in the Monster a while back (SBDOC75). What color would I like to see? How 'bout one of these in something similar to the Zelos crimson red? I'd be all over that!

I totally agree. Seiko has a certain magic to it that many microbrands such as Steinhart simply lack.

What you are saying, is the uniqueness and value of a wrist watch does not always go up or down by its price point. Of course, which helps Seiko, they do not do homages of other brands (like the brand you mentioned).

Nemo makes sense! Its orange and in water! For the rest, you are 500% right. Turtles are simply great. So are mm300. ;)

Love that Orange Turtle. As much as I want to consolidate my collection and flip some of my Seikos, I can't get myself to sell them. My enjoyment with them outweighs the little money you can get for them. I have 3 turtles, a sumo, a monster, a samurai, and a "Baby MM" (SPB079). My favorite is the "Silver Surfer Turtle" (SRPC23K1). It takes real disapline not to allow your Seikos to multiply.

It's nice. How many of us are afraid to spend more than 2-300 on a seiko due to fear of misalignment though. I know I just skipped on and spb143 and went for a sinn instead due to this (and the fact that no retailer wants to take a return for a misaligned bezel/chapter either).

Totally agree!! That watch is a stunner. I would wear it ahead of most of my other watches. Have to say, Seiko should be a bit more courageous as regards timekeeping. I've never had a Seiko watch, or a Seiko movement in another watch, running at more than +9 spd. Mostly they're at +4 to +7 spd.. Btw As for dial colour I got a yellow Steeldive SD1975 tuna homage, absolutely stunning......aI totally agree that there should be more bright colours available, particularly for those bright summer months!

I have a good number of Seiko watches & I also have a Steinhart Ocean One. I’ll keep my Steinhart over buying this Seiko. 👍🏼

I just bought the OEM blue strap for this watch for my PADI turtle. Prefer blue OEM rubber on my Padi diver. I am digging this Nemo.

I agree. I try have to have a solid week of Seiko’s once a month. I lucked out that my turtle, sumo, Willard, and snow flake baby tuna all line up hahahaha

The Turtle is my favorite Seiko. The SRP 777 could be my one watch collection.

The orange sunburst dial is stunning. I think the darker chapter ring is ok, but was a little thrown off that the 20 min sweep on the bezel was a THIRD orange color. It does seem to work if you don’t focus on it, though. Weird.

Seiko did a pink bezel and pink markers + lume on a collaboration between seiko 5 model and alex face.

Loving that orange! I do hate the nicknames given to the main Seiko divers - they do not endear me to the brand lol. (I'm OK with Nemo as I had a beautiful black cat by that name lol)

you should really check out the new seiko tortoise! i just swapped my save the ocean turtle 1st gen for the green land tortoise and I dont regret it. the turtle always felt too big for my 6.5 inch wrist and this new land tortoise just fits me right... also i think the tortoise is now seikos best value proposition for under 500: you get 200m screw down crown, sapphire crystal, applied indeces (yes not stamped through the dial!), good blue lumebrite, good alignment (finally!) and really nice finishing on hands and the applied logo. you really need to review this lttle value beast ;)

Great review , totally agree with the wrist time, happens to me with my Seiko 7002- 7009 , no sapphire , no ceramic, but a lot of character and a neat patina on the lume. Keep up the gold work with your entertaining and educational reviews. Keep safe take care.

This watch should be nicknamed the "Michelangelo" or "Mikey" for short. As in the Ninja Turtles... Mikey's the one that wears the orange eye mask.

If those areas are to improve then it will be atleast $1000 - SLA's or the LX line are top notch but I like this turtle being just like that... its a beater divers with beautiful sunburst! I would wear this more than any of my expensive models. Now I have a question: I am about 2 watches which I can't decide between them (now this is funny) forget about the price difference ok... This JDM turtle or the SLA057J1? hey I'm a deep Seiko fan so yeah I'm confused between the two. Thanks in advance.

I love my Seikos and gotten used to all their "issues" such as the misalignment, and movement inaccuracies, as you mentioned. I thought I would get a "better" watch and picked up a Tudor BB58 and what do you know.... I get one with on a misaligned bezel AND and misaligned 6'oclock index! I take it back to Rolex Service Center and they said the same thing you mentioned. "Its within spec...." Talk about bad luck!

I really like this watch but it’s Donkey colors (Denver Broncos). I’m a Chiefs fan. I dig limited editions. Also, I’d never buy a steinhart or a San Martin or a Islander or etc. Original designs have a price and should be respected.

It is real authentic Seiko alright. Misalignment even in JDM.

100% 7 days a week and twice on Sunday would I take my nemo over a Steinhart. Not even a discussion. And my Squale Heritage for that matter.

The Turtle will probably my very first Seiko. Over a Steinhart- God lord yes! I must have a watch with a soul.

The seiko movement tolerances are greatly exaggerated. Seiko tend to err on the generously humble side of specifications, it's a cultural thing. Not to say that you might be very unlucky and pick up a dud once in a while, but in my experience most 4r35/36 movements fluctuate around the 10 - 15 seconds fast at worst.

They have decades of experience making watches and they still can't get alignment right. Why. Is. That?

Agree with Seiko you pay for original design not necessarily specs. If you want specs get an Orient or Steinhart both offering very derivative boring designs. Disagree on Seiko having poor Quality Control. Based on the price point they have determined an acceptable tolerance with their specs. You may not like the acceptable variation but that has nothing to do with their QC.

I'm sorry but I would buy Heimdallr over Seiko. Seiko watches nowadays are way overpriced and quality control is also bad. And one more thing, I would never want to take my Seamaster 300M off my wrist for any other watches that I own including my Rolex Datejust Tuxedo.

The Nemo is in my opinion thé worst in the whole of the Turtle range. By far!. I dreamed/hoped for a orange version and even played around in photoshop , made some versions and even e-mailed Seiko. When I saw what they did with it.... I was sooo dissapointed. I just think it's all wrong.The Turtle is my nr.1 pick when it comes to Seiko divers and what the brand represent to me. Hell, it's proberbly my favorite diver in general. full stop. I'm not saying it's the best. It's not, but I connect to it more than any other watch.But the Nemo.....🤢🤮
