I remember watching this review prior to purchasing this watch a couple of years ago. Today l took it on a trip to the Great Barrier Reef out of Cairns and I’m proud to say l swam with some actual turtles while wearing it. I’m so glad l got this watch!!
I have my father's Original Turtle from the early 80's. He ditched the rubber strap and put a stainless strap on it. When I got a hold of it, I ditched the stainless strap and put a beautiful new black leather water resistant strap on it. The watch looks better with this strap than ever. Thanks for the video my Brother 👍 🇺🇲
Probably my favorite Seiko diver, if not my favorite watch period. I have one on my wrist right now, and it gets the most wrist time of all of my watches by far. I just love the classic design, the robustness, and the versatility. I usually wear it on a plain black maratac zulu single piece strap, but also wear it on the original rubber strap, a black BluShark NATO, and plan on getting a waffle and tropic strap for it. I also love that it comes in such a wide variety of color options. Eventually I'd like to collect them all!
I bought my first Turtle, and I was like WTFFFFFFFFFF. Sits so every nicely on the wrist and comfortable for such a heavy and bulky tool watch. Have not been taking a look at my Seamaster for the past 3 days, just solely focusing on my King Turtle.
One thing about the SRPs that makes me highly prefer them over the SKXs are the dial markers that are slightly raised, with a metallic outline. It adds so much more depth to the watch and just looks fantastic.
Hahaha, thanks for vid, I was in love from the very beginning in turtles reissue. Ending up with three of them, and probably will buy one more :) I'm glad you developed love with those watches.
Hi Bruce. Thanks for the great video. You are absolutely spot on about the turtle. I've got one of each of these timepieces in the j models and they all have slight modifications. I've replaced the glass with sapphire crystal on all of them with a Dome from crystal times which I think makes the watch look absolutely fantastic.
I have a 6309-7049 and I love it, my Dad bought it in 1987 and he gave it to me 20 years ago and it’s still going🤞I just bought the SRPC23K1 great watch!
I got mine when they originally came out for $450. You got a steal! I absolutely love the watch. It's been completely reliable through everything I've put it through haha. The lume is crazy! Enjoy it!
I have a ‘King Turtle’ SRPH55 special edition which was made in Japan, has Kanji and English day symbols, sapphire crystal and ceramic bezel insert. It is a lot of watch for the money. The case design and awesome. So comfortable and so durable.
Great detail and love for the details demonstrated here, this is my next watch to acquire. I'm impressed with the black silicone strap, it's very appealing. Even with the admiration for the model, you did not skimp on the flaws as well, which is not an issue with the price and value involved.
Got my 773 yesterday, dial, chapter and bezel perfectly aligned, to my eyes anyway! So far keeping good time (less than 24 hours though). Just taking time getting used to weight having worn Tissot dress watch for about 20 years!
The intro sounds like Prokofiev's "Dance of Knights". I like it. I've had my SRP775J for about 10 months now and it's my idea of a perfect daily watch. Consistently +1.5 s/d, day date, hacking, hand winding, applied indices, killer lume, and the list goes on. My bezel is dead nuts on so I guess I got lucky there. Crystal swaps are cheap and easy, so hardlex isn't a big deal. Seiko really knocked it out of the park with these, IMO. Close to perfect for the price.
I bought my SRP777 last Thanksgiving Day for $232 on ebay. Been wearing it almost every day since on an Isofrane classic rubber dive strap. Runs within 1.5 - 2 sec per day. I am not especially a Seiko nut but I love this watch. Even though it is larger than the SKX I find it more comfortable because it doesn't have the crown guards that would dig into my wrist like the SKX did and it doesn't feel top heavy like the SKX. I have since sold my SKX for $200 so it was about an even trade for the SRP777.
Bought a turtle last year, just paid it off, awesome watch, very happy with it. Bought the metal strap version, accuracy is decent, runs fast my 30s a day maybe, beautiful bit of kit
I hesitated getting a Turtle for ages but succumbed when I found a blue-dial 773 for a good price on the used market. I was expecting to not like but I surprised myself -- I love it! Like the Sumo, this watch looks even better in person than in photographs. Yes, mine has a 6 o'clock index that was attached to the dial about 1mm too far to the right but the chapter ring and bezel insert have pretty good alignment. That OEM rubber strap is such an improvement over previous versions -- I have one on a Tuna and cannot find any aftermarket strap that is more comfortable or a better fit. I don't even mind the OEM bracelet even though it has a stamped metal clasp and the typical Seiko pin-and-collar system of attachment. These Turtles continue to drop in price and I would strongly recommend one to anyone thinking about getting one. They really are great dive watches. Nicely done as usual, Bruce!
IMO this is an ideal daily wear and works on anything except a formal look. It’s a timeless design that will look great 50 years from now. Great rubber strap and looks killer on leather or a nato.
Got mine 1 year ago for 330usd. The chapter ring is misaligned by a hair (I don't mind a all), the time keeping is amazing, it's running about half second fast a day! I use it daily, love this watch.
Glad ur doing reviews still. Enjoy your channel. Just bought this turtle based on your review and your nickname nato to go with it can't wait to rock it Keep up the great videos
Lovely watch mate!! Great to see some love for the SRP777, Same as you're self I had the 775 previously. I've customised mine with a MM300 Seiko Signed crown couldnt be more happy with it. Keep up the good work!!!
I have a blue SRP773J. The chapter ring is dead on. I upgraded my bezel insert to ceramic as the scratches were getting out of hand. The black insert coupled with the blue dial is sharp. The insert is luminous too. It lasts all night. On a good day, my watch is 2 seconds fast.
Great video, beautiful macro shots on the dial. Have both the 773 and 777. The silicon strap is super, save for it being a speck/dust magnet (which is to be expected). I also find the bracelet excellent - solid end links, diver's extension, no hairs pulled. It can be a bit rattly while being in certain positions, mainly during driving when my hand is on a shaking wheel, but generally - it's pretty great in that aspect too. I'm not sure if you've mentioned it, but the Turtle re-issue also comes with drilled lugs so switching straps is a breeze. My 777 itself keeps great time, it came in +0.5/1s per day, broke in and went to around +8 when worn throughout the day, which is perfect in my book. The cushion case is super comfortable on the wrist and I think it has a great profile, and the bezel action is smooth like the operators from Sade's song. I hope this one becomes a classic somewhere along the lines of the SKX007/9 in the future.
I lusted over this watch for 3 years. But life etc. So I bought one for my birthday last month. I fucking love it. Awesome watch. I love the hack and hand winding function. And it looks awesome. I've noticed people looking at it when I'm at the mall. Not me, the watch. It is the shit! I love it. So comfortable and such a good timepiece.
Greeting from Australia, Bruce. You are my favourite watch reviewer. Well done mate. I got into Seikos after watching your videos. Bought the Padi Turtle after seeing how much enthusiasm you had for it. Any chance of you doing a Seiko recraft review. I just bought one with the green dial and am thinking of modding it. Thanks in advance.
the Japanese equivalent to the rolex james bond sub, amazing value ,finally pulled the trigger at macys couple few months ago, after coupons and sale prc cost me 350 drive out, like the man said heavy duty, buildqual fit and finish all A+++ , great strap , & keeper. Retro vtg appeal remember it is a re -edition. Totally satisfied cus, have fun swapping Zulus and natos ,throw a ss universal bracelet on threre, super versitile , remember straight end links are best.
Hi Bruce, I've been looking at certain watches to save up for. The watches I'm looking at are the glycine combat sub range, Squale 1545 & now the seiko srp777. I own and wear daily the seiko sarb033 (and love it). Do you have any thoughts on the watches I'm looking at (apologises if I'm hounding the watch community on RU-vid). Many Thanks.👍🏻
I just got the Save the Ocean Blue Whale version which won out over the plain black that I like too. It wears much smaller than the specs might seem with it's soft curves. Yeah the silicone strap is super silky and comfortable and is complimented by the buckle and keeper shape and finishing. I got a solid discount in San Francisco Chinatown making this an unbeatable value.
I purchased a 779J (pepsi) but the owner put a black ceramic insert, coin edge bezel, and domed crystal with solid bracelet and Barton rubber for $318. Comes with original parts. Perfect watch for everyday wear, physical activities. If I wanna be fancy I like to wear my SM 6200 “vintage diver” :)
Great watch! Great review! It’s built like a tank. My only gripe would be accuracy. Mine constantly loses -9/-10 sec. per day. I know that with this movement it is the luck of the draw. Otherwise I couldn’t be happier.
Really good review Bruce. Any chance you can include where you bought each particular piece? I have the Batman (on the bracelet), and I find the bracelet more than adequate. I would like to try a Strapcode sometime though. Thanks for the review.
Been saying it for a while. In 30 years of collecting, the SRPA21 Seiko PADI remains the best Bang for Buck Diver I've ever owned. My daily War Watch in the office. Chapter Ring perfect. Steel bracelet not so flash, Replaced with a Red/Blue Shark NATO. Happy days.
How do you "fix" the bezel to align up correctly? I am thinking of getting one of these in blue. I have 6 Bulova's (auto & precision) that are all dead on with diver bezels and hand alignment. It would really drive me nuts if the friggin bezel was not correct.. thx.
Hi Bruce, Great Review. I need your honest opinion: SRP777 and SRPA21, which one should I buy? They are both about 250 dollars on ebay. And I don't care about rubber band or bracelet because I will put them on NATO strap anyway. So which one is better in your opinion?
I dove in mexico with my padi. average depth 32m for an hr. even got a photo of mme wearing it with a grouper in front of me. great watch. Always remember to swill all your gear down with fresh water after being in salt water o get the salt off.
Slight correction bud. The P and the S stands for Professional Specifications and they make an ‘X’. Hence the PROSPEX label for Seiko. Great video bud!
Hey Bruce, great review. I was about to push the button on a SRP779J1 but I'm now wavering as to whether to get a SRP777J1. Where is that Godzilla Nato from please?
