If a person has been sick and in the hospital, they may NOT have shaved every day so there can be beard growth, whiskers. Shaving men is a normal part of body prep in the mortuary, they want the deceased to look as normal as possible. But you, as family, can make your requests if you want things a certain way and they will do their best to honor your wishes.

Hi Francis, so sorry to hear about your poor friend very sad😔 sounds like advance decomposition had stated. Your content feels like I have been included to listen in to a conversation which is so nice. About two decades ago I was two weeks in to my new job at a funeral home - and broke the toes on my left foot (while gardening at home). I was one of the drivers. I have always regretted that injury. My current work is still helping people but there is not so much peace.

Y'all are just hilarious and answer lots of my questions. I used to be an EMT, but had to quit due to an illness. I have seriously considered going back to school to become an embalmer. The nearest school that I could go train at is about two hours away from my home hear in South Carolina, USA. I'm 43 years old with no wife and no children. I've always been fascinated by the embalming process. I would like to work with the deceased and not so much with the families, even though I enjoyed working with patients as an EMT. In both professions you are generally working with folks who are going through a very difficult experience. I'm afraid that I'm too old to start over. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated as I do not even know the first steps to take to get into the field. Thanks, Bucky
@Areyoudyingtoknow
@Areyoudyingtoknow Год назад
Hi Bucky, thank you so much for your kind words 💚 You are never to old and with your background work this kind of job would be great for you and you for the industry, I was 45 when I first started as a mortician ( that was 10 years ago) so older than you and I only decided to do my embalming studies 4 years ago and completed in February 2022. I would encourage you to look into mortuary studies as I know in the USA it is very different from Australia, we don't have mortuary schools to become a mortician it's all on the job training. Here in Australia people tend to get there foot into the door of a funeral home by doing other roles such as, funeral directors assistant or doings the transfers of the deceased person from place of death to the funeral home. Hope that information helps you, good luck and take care 😊💚💚

Well, I have decided to go the natural burial route. No viewing, no "Oh how peaceful he looks". I will be picked up within 48 hours, taken to a local funeral home that has an agreement with the cemetery where they will strip me down and wrap me in a linen sheet and call the cemetery to pick my carcass up and deliver me to the cemetery where 6 or so big strapping college bois will lug me up to the site I picked out and they hand dug (NO power equipment is allowed) and my executor should already have gone up and dropped all my silver coins in the hole and covered them up, drop me in, fill in the hole, play 3 songs on a CD player, have a medicine man give my farewell, drink a 6 pak of beer (we all know what happens then), plant a native shrubbery on top and walk away and forget about me. No markers of any kind, each burial site is GPS marked and a master map is on paper as a back up. I'm gone, and don't have to deal with all this garbage going on in the world. I CAN have a bench made up and placed along the stream that runs through the property but I won't say who paid for it. Just anonymous. Then in 10,000 years if a scientific expedition explores the area and happens to dig up where I have long since gone to nothing except my fillings and silver coins and wonder what the Hell is THIS. Let them puzzle over it. The regulations forbid you from being planted there if you had radiation treatment, no matter how long ago it was, you cannot be buried there. Chemo I think is OK, but since I won't undergo either, I am fine. I do enjoy your videos. Please keep them coming.

Ooooffff did I just age myself 😅 well perhaps 🤷🏻‍♀️ Let’s just say our kāmālī’ī (children) & now grandchildren are growing up together 😅 • You’ll never make everyone happy. That’s ok. As long as you’re both happy & having fun; just continue doing what you do. Those that love you will always be in your corner cheering you on. Hi Nichola, thank you so much for your kind words 🙏🥰 It's very rare I will suggest not to touch the body. It's usually in reconstruction situation or badly decomposed body. Just because the bodies will be in a delicate state. In my work place we approach the family with the truth and always respectfully. It's always best to be truthful but also very caring at the same time. Thank you for your question take good care out in America 😘💚💚

I don't know. I guess I have a different view of saying good bye. I remember a good friend of mine passed from lung Cancer. He didn't want all these tears. He wanted everyone together and party. We were the ones who actually buried him. We had to get a judge to sign off because of the radiation when he was alive. And the funeral home gave us dimensions on what the opening had to be. Each one of us took turns digging. When we got the depth that was required and all. We all put something in with him. His wife wrapped his ashes in his grandmother's quilt she put their wedding rings in. Someone put a beer and a joint in Me and him used to argue about long and short bed Ford trucks. I said the short bed Ford was sporty. Long bed looked like grandpas truck. When I put that truck in the wind picked up. Wonder why? Anyway don't cry for me. Have a good time and drink 🍷🍷🍷 one for me! This was 30 yrs ago.

I think its important to clarify there is a different level of risk for someone who works directly with the deceased body (ie opening the body or hands on care of an open body) and the risk to family etc viewing the body. As a medical professional only in rare circumstances is a body (embalmed or NOT) dangerous to family viewing/casually touching (hand holding) a body. Sorry I think there is already enough fear without adding to it. 😢

You are in Australia right? I am in US. When you mention "going home" does that mean that the deceased person is going back to their home??? For how long? Does the US let that happen as well? I have never heard of that happening, and understand. I have enjoyed your channel. Yall are 2 sweet gals. From Asheville Northcarolina ❤

Hi yes we are in Australia. It means that the deceased person is going back to their own home. It is very common here, the length of time home is anywhere from one night to a full week just depends on the individual family or the traditions or culture. I cannot speak for the USA as I don't know the rules sorry. Thank you for your kind words ❤️❤️

Why are bodies embalmed and are all bodies embalmed? Love you guys. Fascinating stuff
@Areyoudyingtoknow
@Areyoudyingtoknow Год назад
Hi, here in Queensland Australia we do not embalm all bodies that come into our care. In my Mortuary nearly 90% are not embalmed, just washed dressed placed in a coffin or casket ready for the funeral service, be it a burial or cremation. The reasons bodies are embalmed or - if the family request it, it the body is going home for a period of time, if the body has to be repatriated (flown to another country) and culture reasons. Think places like the USA embalm just about all their deceased bodies. Thank you for your question take care 😊💚

Question 3 if some one has been murdered and cut up do you have to sow all the body parts back on before the funeral

Depends on how badly they are damaged and if there is a viewing or embalming is needed, but generally yes, I would put them back together.

I'm curious about embalming fluid or formaldehyde does it pollution risk to environment ? Perhaps a video on that next 👍🇬🇧🐾🦊🇦🇺
@Areyoudyingtoknow
@Areyoudyingtoknow Год назад
Hi John, we have done a few videos talking about this. Yes it can be a pollution risk. Here in Queensland Australia a university is working on a none formaldehyde embalming chemical 👍. However formaldehyde is not only used by Embalmers, it's used in lots of house hold things we use every day. formaldehyde is used in the manufacturing of many household items-from furniture to cosmetics-it is present in every home. Higher concentrations of formaldehyde are found in homes with new products or new construction. Thank you for your question take care 😊🇦🇺🇬🇧🐾💚💚

@@Areyoudyingtoknow interesting but when a body is put in walls at cemetery do fluids leak out ? How come no stink ?
@Areyoudyingtoknow
@Areyoudyingtoknow Год назад
Hi, you won't get a smell because the bodies have to be embalmed to go into an above ground vaults. Embalming slows down the process of decomposition, but it does not stop it completely. Embalming involves the injection of chemicals, such as formaldehyde, into the body's blood vessels to preserve and delay the onset of decomposition. This process can slow down the decomposition process of the body and help maintain its appearance for a longer period of time. However, over time, even embalmed bodies will begin to decompose. The chemicals used in the embalming process can break down and eventually be absorbed by the body, allowing natural process of decay to occur. Bacteria and other microorganisms can also continue to break down the tissues of the body. The body will become more mummified and dry out so you don't get the leaking of fluids or that really bad odour. The rate of decomposition in embalmed bodies depends on various factors such as the type of embalming fluid used, the temperature and humidity of the environment, and the presence of bacteria and insects. Ultimately, embalming only provides temporary preservation of the body and its appearance, and it does not halt the natural process of decomposition indefinitely. Hope that helps you 😊💚

@@Areyoudyingtoknow I knows how embalming fluid works in South italy they don't embalming corpses just in metal lined casket or plain wood we has a hole in wall to place coffin in then white marble slab goes across it google Rosalia lombardi of catacombs italy thats embalming at i never seen shes over 100 year old but looks like shes sleeping 👍🇬🇧🇦🇺🐾🦊

Sorry I didn't know that South Italy don't embalm, so I have no idea how it works there or what process happens. I just know here when our bodies go into the crypt like you described, ours have marble fronts too but bodies have to be embalmed first. It's different all over the world take care 💚

Back in the late 60’s, I had a friend that had a brother in law that was a mortician. He was embalming a body and some how he got ill from a body and died. I am old now, butI believe it was hepatitis. So sad he was very young. Does this sound possible?
@Areyoudyingtoknow
@Areyoudyingtoknow Год назад
Hi Susan, what a very sad story 😞. Yes it's very possible especially with certain types of hepatitis. Back in the good old 60's I don't think PPE (personal protective equipment) was high on the list of equipment to use in the mortuary. I know gloves and plastic aprons were worn but I don't this face masks and shields were. A lot of cross contamination happen in these days to, not washing equipment correctly in between deasesed, not cleaning down all the mortuary correctly. The list goes on and of course they is always needle stick injuries too. I was always taught from day one working in the NHS National Blood Services collecting blood, always always treat every blood donor as infectious! Meaning never ever touch anyone or any blood products without your full PPE on as we just don't know who and who is not infectious with any kind of virus or bacteria. I never touch any deceased person unless kited up in my full PPE because I just don't know who has what 👍 thank you for sharing take good care 💚💚
