What would you ask a funeral director or embalmer if you had them live in front of you?!

Someone asked how to be involved with the funeral.... I was able to paint my mom’s nails and do her hair. I also helped with the makeup application too. It was actually very nice because she died suddenly and it was unexpected. I’m also a ER nurse so I was mentally prepared before arriving.

I worked at several FH in Chicago and it was a custom of the FH hearse to pass by a deceased's home on the way to the cemetery; it was called the LAST GOOD-BY. I worked for large Funeral Homes (Blake-Lamb)

Yes I attended one in Brooklyn NY where the funeral ptocession stopped by both of the houses where the deceased had lived during his life. The hearse paused briefly at each of the two houses. I am sure the funeral home had to charge for the extra time and extra driving, especially because this was quite a distance.

As a clergyman I have had to intervene in family disputes at a service, but thankfully rare. Sometimes disputes among families during planning of service & usually I’m able to work with funeral director in helping family resolve so we work together to help family work through disputes. Thankfully not a frequent problem.

my uncle belonged to a church right across from his home for years. He was buried right past the church. We actually stopped the funeral precession at the church. parked the hearse under awning . Rung the Sunday bell and said a small prayer from the cars. I live in the middle of Kentucky. Most people here are buried on family land or close to their home.

I missed you live. I have a very good question. Have you ever buried someone that enjoyed how something develops over several years? I just got back from a funeral and my cousins buried their dad with a few different phones. One was an old rotary dial phone, one was the 1st cell phone that was a bag phone as it was called. Then a flip phone and then a smartphone. I could not help myself but let out a chuckle but he wanted to take those with him.

I had a wonderful hour long chat with my funeral director, when I went to pay for my late husbands funeral, and asked him, what was his wierdest thing happen. He said, a family came in and wanted the member of their family viewed and buried in a see thru negligee. So, of course, I asked questions. He said, being that there would be small children there, he couldn't do, it was an interesting day.

On the gravedigging topic and the space issue: I remember visiting my mom's grave (d.2002) and while walking through the graves with my 3 year old in a stroller we noticed all these gophers up on the top of the grass, blinking dazedly in the sun and wondered what the hell was going on. Turned out they were going to apparently inter a whole row of people who had been waiting, so to speak, to all be done at the same time (I don't know why, maybe it's cheaper). The gophers were apparently disoriented by all the ground moving equipment. Anyway there was basically a large ditch and I could see the vaults of the people of the row behind. I could see the foot of about 10-15 older graves and the feet of the various caskets. It was very creepy. My mom was buried in a very old grave my grandmother bought when her first husband died in the 1918 Spanish Flu epidemic. Very interesting story. My mom insisted we do a graveside service and no way did she want to hang around and be buried at the cemetery's convenience. I tried to talk her out of embalming but she really didn't care about that.

Kari, I go on youtube at times and watch videos where the graves of famous people are been buried. I am not an American, but I am from an Asian country where I was born and still live. I love Country music and feel sad when I think of all the American Country singers who have passed away. I love Glen Campbell's songs and a while ago watched a video where they showed his grave site and tomb stone. I have never been to the US. I once met an American couple who were visiting my country and while speaking to them they told me that although the graves and tomb stones are visible to the public, almost all these famous people are not actually buried in those places, but in secret locations where only the close family members know. They keep it as a secret to prevent the bodies been dug up by grave diggers so that they can get parts of the clothing, casket or even body parts and sell them as souvenirs. Could that be true?

There was a guy who told his daughter who wanted to get a tattoo, that he would give her $1,000 to spend on one special outfit, the catch was that she would have to wear that same outfit every day all day for 2 months. When she protested he said, "you want a tattoo and you'll be wearing that for the rest of your life". Something to think about. Tattoos aren't worth it.

I bought a farm from an elderly lady whose family lived on it for four generations. As I was cleaning up, I found what looks like a few graves, no headstones but had a beautiful wrought iron fence buried in the leaves near them. I asked the lady and she said it would have been during her "grand daddy's" time but very possible. Should I do anything with them? for them? to them?

Do some states restrict transport of non embalmed bodies across state lines? One funeral director said no, the other said yes, and I asked about Jewish bodies in those cases. One director said, if it is required to embalm a body for transfer across a state line, the blood drained from Jewish bodies is retained and has to be buried in the casket. Can you give an answer or does it vary from state to state? Have you had to deal with this?

I find that it's much better to bury a person, naked. Why, you ask? Well, their isn't a valid reason, as to why the dead, would need clothes. We say that the soul goes to Heaven. Not with the body. But, that does bring up another question. When the soul arrives at Heaven, is it naked or fully dressed?

not everybody goes to Heaven!!!! the word of God declares that theres a Heaven to gain, and a Hell to shun!!! some pastors preach all people into Heaven, while in reality,a lot of those folks went just the opposite, because they didnt live for God!!!!!

@@MultiDjc123 I hear what you said, but everything about Heaven and Hell, is hearsay. Yes, it was said to those thousands of years ago. Or was it? Think about life on earth. Sometimes it feels like Heaven, and other times it feels like Hell. Plus, in truth, no one has died, and ca.e back and described Heaven and Hell. And I'm not talking about those people who "died" and woke up. No one really knows for sure.

@@walterfink9782 there are people who have been allowed to see into Heaven, and into Hell, believe me its real, there is A God,there is a devil, there is a Hell!!! i can tell you from experience ,that Christians have spiritual visions, and God reveals things to us, that the world doesnt understand, and i myself have had people say that they seen angels around me at different times in my life.i have friends who have seen multitudes of angels at various times, heard angels singing during worship times at churchs. i,myself am a piano player for churchs, and have experienced angel activity standing behind me while playing up front of the congregation, tha angel was seen by one of the church ladies who told me after services were over,so i know that these are angelic beings . i have lived for God many years now, actually since i was 8 years old ! i am 75 now, still living for God!!! i have had many healings, dreams, and spiritual experiences over the years that many wouldnt believe, yet they remain true and real! please give God a chance ,prove Him out,see that He is as real as you and I,He values you,He is more than worthy of your belief thank you sir With all respect towards you,no offence intended,God really Loves you, thats why people like me are sent your way to help you to see how Great God is
