I'm turning 60 this year. I spent the last 10 years reading the Bible over and over and over again searching for the truth. The lies fell to the wayside as the truth became more and more clear. Man invented God... not the other way around. The bible is one very messed up collection of confusion that has evolved into what it is today. I love how you describe truth. It's not something that a religious person can grasp because they actually believe that should they question the bible, they'll burn in hell for eternity. After nearly 60 years of religious indoctrination since birth. I am truly free! Free from the lies, free from making others rich from my tithes, free from trying to figure out how to get to heaven and free from the fear of hell. Hello Science! I have so much to learn and I can't get enough truth! I need to live to at least 100 to catch up! Thank you so much for taking the time to make these videos. You are a REAL blessing. ❤

Way I see it, if you're wrong about something - you're just wrong. It doesn't matter what you feel about it, it doesn't matter how much arguing you do about it - it's simply that you're either right about something, or you're wrong about it. Better to own up to it and get it over with than whine about it - sooner you acknowledge you're wrong, the sooner you can start being right. Also helps to not decide what's right and wrong before ya get proper information and logical reasoning about the topic, either - but that's a different facet.

When only very few people were literate, they were perceived as very clever and wise, so what they wrote was easily viewed as some sort of revelation of truth. They must be intermediaries with some mysterious higher power. "It is written" no longer has that mystique. It is written that Daz washes whitest, not to mention endless crap on ye olde internette. @nagranoth_
@nagranoth_ 5 месяцев назад
Mythicism isn't about debunking christianity..... Christianity is obviously false to begin with. Mythicism is not arguing the obvious point that christianity does not match reality, that's a given. It's arguing the much more academic point that on top of being obviously false the BASIS of the religion isn't even what the majority of people think it is. Mythicism is saying christians aren't just wrong, they're wrong about the wrong things. It's saying that not only is the resurrection story obviously false, it wasn't even meant to be about a physical character in this reality in the first place (and so on). Clearly mythicism is about how to understand the religion academically; not about debunking points that are obviously false anyway, but about these points not actually even being the topic. It doesn't make sense to say there are more substantive arguments that Debunk Christianity, where mythicism says "well, duh, obviously that stuff isn't real for all the reasons you mentioned... but that's not the actual stuff anyway"

The two biggest problems when discussing religion with theists is (a) when the discussion moves away from their script they almost always resort to rather dishonest excuses and end up with ad hominem; and (b) it usually take more time to explain the simple things than their attention span allows. Assuming of course, you can move the discussion past the point of monologue from the beginning.

I had a months-long long run-in with someone who, I'm pretty sure, intended to defend theism. Their tactic was an immediate barrage of accusations of lying, and of committing constant logical fallacies. After a while, and 7 dictionary definitions of "to lie" which all include intent to deceive later, it came out that the person was referring to some 4th tier definition in a 3rd rate dictionary, to lie is to make a misleading statement, with or without intent to deceive. Calling out false accusations of lies, as lies themselves looks puerile, _tu quoque_ "I'm not the liar, you are!" It's almost clever, lie out of your arse, then accuse everyone else of lying. I thought the person was smart enough to know that most people associate lies with dishonesty, accusations of lies are character-assassination attempts - but they would never concede this point. The person refused to identify as either theist, deist, atheist or agnostic (or any combination thereof), their position on belief in god or gods was "still weighing possibilities" and "searching". That was belied by refusal to admit they might be wrong about anything. I suggested that while we wait for her (claimed to be a her but with zero femininity) to discover or finish weighing, that she was an atheist. But for her, atheist could only be defined as someone who positively believes there is no god. "Lack of belief" was rejected as a definition of atheism. It was very disturbing to be accused of lies in post after post with no let-up for months. "Nice lie" she would say, but lies are not nice.

The truth IS on our side, the "faith" be damned
@3GC
@3GC Месяц назад
Concise and correct! Only one area not covered the is still a mystery of depth -- emotions vs. reason. Religion magnificently manipulates through emotions - fear, comfort, solemn "joy", sexual desire control, ritual repetition for indoctrination while strains over gnats of "scripture" for immutable life guidelines and truths. Non-belief, science and reality require us to use our brains for a hell of a lot more than pat answers. It is hard work - and scorned by those controlled by unthought emotions with doctrines denying truth or real human intelligence of how things are. Scientists work to discover what we do not know mea. They measure and test their work against what our species believe -- and in many places and times have been excoriated from society and profession for periods extending beyond their lifetime. Like Darwin, when original science based findings are found valid and then applied to develop rafts of validation and truths of the the specific how and why of their work, it MUST be moved from hypothesis to theory. It may become a base for greater understanding of many unsuspected parts of life when applied. The emotionally driven indoctrinated will take umbrage at any science that contradicts their belief's ancient myth-born scriptures and practices. For too many a loud stance from misguided or deliberately ignorant pulpits delay understanding, development or use of what scientific endeavor has to offer for all mankind. For too many those "spiritual" laws and scriptures handed down over centuries may never be questioned or tested for truth or utility in an ever changing world. Their deep seated emotions and their intellectual laziness will not allow it. They gain emotional comfort and personal satisfaction in the lazy practices of hearing, rereading, repeating, and often ritual, then "righteously" enforcing their beliefs without thought to truths beyond that guided by their own personal emotions. Any variance from their emotional well being is considered heresy, lunacy, damnation, and faithless.
