I have Muslim friends who whisper "see you in a couple hours bro", when they see security coming down the line. Any sign of a Muslim name or a Muslim man with a beard and you're bound to experience this at least once in your life.

@agg5984
@agg5984 5 лет назад
@@chicotthejester9341 It's profiling, which is mostly race based. As you saw in the sketch they were happy to co-operate with the security guy (just like my Muslim friends are when they are pulled aside) BUT it is still a pain to be under suspicion for your name, the way you look, etc. and to have hours taken from your day to be grilled, when you're in holiday mode. If they want to make a joke about it and laugh about the situation, they can. I don't see why people are getting triggered.

Can confirm lol. Even better, the inspector who questioned me really want to deport me or something lmao, even asked irrelevant stuff on why I like Counter-Strike (I have wallpaper of it in phone) and why do I have a photo of my friend in an APC (it was a goofy Photoshop edit I don't know what he was so mad about). In the end they permitted me anyway, despite the sarcastic remarks I threw at that inspector. Well deserved anyway, who the bloody hell got mad over a Photoshop edit. The rest of the security personnels were cool, they're chill and friendly, definitely not ones that would get mad over funny edits that is.

During the troubles in Northern Ireland, as an Irish person, I never passed through English customs without being taken aside interrogated and completely searched, literally every time without fail. I asked why they are always searching me, they said guess, I asked is it because I'm Irish and they said yes, simple as that. At least they aren't allowed to shoot us anymore just for speaking our native language as they used to when they were trying to eradicate our language, traditions and cultural heritage back in the day.

I am a a Muslim convert. A year and a half prior to shahadah I started wearing hijab turban style and wearing dresses. It was the first time in my life being pulled over for a pat-down by TSA (not to mention I was military at the time and used my military ID as my form of identification with my ticket). The lady did a pat-down of my turban to see if there was anything in there. Two years ago, wearing a niqab as a Muslimah I went on a plane and this time I had my laptop screened for a bomb. Next month I will be traveling out of the US for the first time (as an adult) and I wear full black niqab, jilbab, and gloves. I am seriously looking up all the TSA loops and planning to arrive SUPER early for my flight just to ensure I make it on time. I have Muslim sisters who wear niqab and who have been pulled into a room for hours before, and even detained by ICE for a few days, despite being a US citizen.

This was hilarious! I'm a Muslim and I DON'T get checked because I 'look' very western in terms of my appearance and my name is Shah. I remember when I was in the queue with 3 of my Muslim friends and I was standing in the middle from them, they were all "randomly" selected for security check apart from me once the security checked our passports. After a minute I clocked that all of my 3 friends have the name 'Mohammed' (I know them by their other names) written on their passport and I don't.

It's funny to watch. I even chuckled. Sadly the reality is far from the comedic sketch shown here. Travelling is already such a stressful situation as it is with checking in, bag weigh ins/ searches and catching a flight on time that to put schedule 7 into the mix immediately puts you in a foul mood. Imagine having spent so much on flights, accomodation etc and then you miss your flight because of a 'random' check. It's embarrassing, demeaning and down right intrusive in my opinion. I don't know what's worse to be stopped outbound or inbound, both would completely ruin a holiday. I feel like it makes Muslims feel victimised and quite ironically may place a resentment in people who are stopped and questioned for hours on end. Being treated as a suspect can make one feel stigmatised, alienated and discriminated against thus creating a culture of fear and suspicion against the government. You have the right to leave/refuse legally if they don't charge you but if you do it's seen as non-compliance. On the other hand, from the perspective of national security I understand their reasoning. However it is impossible to measure the success of preventing 'possible' crimes of terror through this procedure. The bottom line is SOME Islamic views do clash with the values of this country. There are clear cut lines about homosexuality and things like the foreign policy supplying weapons to murder people in Muslim lands. Any educated Muslim will tell you that but does it mean we don't follow and abide by the laws of the land we live in? Of course not. Does that mean we crucify homosexuals or spread hatred? Of course not. There is no crime in having these opinions and beliefs but to utter it aloud feels like putting a target on your back. You hear about all these prevent strategies supposedly trying to provide a 'safe space' for Muslims to voice their opinions and have them challenged but do we really think that these spaces are available after such treatment at a sudden, rather intense level? Any misguided fool who ponders the thought of breaking the law has chosen to live here, they have chosen to benefit from the life in this country۔ If they don't like the laws they are more than welcome to make Hijrah (migrate). No one is stopping them. As a government they reserve the right to refuse you coming back should they feel you are a threat. This is not a Muslim country. To summarise, more research needs to be put into Schedule 7 stops, it's intent, implementation and impact need to be reviewed.
