#nhl #hockey #torontomapleleafs We take a deeper look into one of the NHL's historic rivalries between the Toronto Maple Leafs & The Boston Bruins ahead of the NHL Trade Deadline NHL Recap
Nah the leafs just have to take a page out of other dirty teams books and look to injure star players early in the series. Look at what happened to Knies during his first run, he was a rally point, and the Panthers? suplexed him taking him out for the series.
As a Leafs fan, it’s even becoming harder to hate Marchand. He knows how to get under their skin and they fall for it every time🤦🏼♂️ Just focus on the god damn game and not that giant nose, it’s pretty easy. They were barely skating, they were just taking a piss out there last night.
Marchand is the player every team wants and it shows by all his peers wishing that he was on their team, because he is so valuable and knows how to win. His skill is top notch and his competitiveness is even higher, Something most of the Leafs core is sorely lacking.
Every time I see Matthews forecheck I'm like why doesn't Mr. 6'3" just body the D one frickin time.. and then they engage in the corner and he either picks the puck through a stick lift or through positioning or makes the play a 50/50 scramble. He's so effective at stick lifts/turnovers that it's ridiculous.
IMHO Toronto needs a new coaching staff. All of it. The ideology of this team has got to change. You look at history and many teams/players written off as “soft” usually turn it around in their careers. I’m not a Toronto fan at all but I think the problem is Keefe and not the players, for once. They also never adapt in the playoffs to their opponents
Agree 100%. Any other coach with a guy like Reeves sitting at the end the bench would be sending the tough guy over the boards the next shift after a cheap shot to hit everything in sight and fight the first taker. Keefe hates tough players like Reeves and does not use him effectively. The point of signing a guy like Reeves is the enforce the rules that the refs miss. He is useless in the press box or stapled to the end of the bench. Boston don't have a guy in their lineup that would fight Reeves. use that to your advantage
I wish they’d just fire Keefe… in an important game like this one not putting Reaves out on a regular shift with Marner and Matthews and letting the Bruins know they are serious is just comical. Why did they even bother to sign him?
I know this wasn't the focus of the video, but not mentioning the Bertuzzi Cross-Check is kind of bad, because it seems like only one side was the offender the whole night. "One team played physical, the other was creating unnecessary fights", instead of "Both teams were playing a similar chippy/playoff style hockey and the Bruins have a PHD on that area"
@@onewingedguyhahaha, you might be right if Boston didn’t get their shít pushed in by Florida last year, after that pathetic showing Boston lost all respect that they earned back when they were good 😂
right because spearing players to the groin and interference hits to the head is good hockey as long as any other team is doing it except the leafs. Get real
We need to figure out how to anger 34. Every time someone actually makes him angry , he scores a hatty in like 10 minutes Please get angry Auston we need it.
@pattaccone5347 I know it sounds redundant but scoring actually starts with your defense - transitioning the puck up from the goalie control, the way goalies handle their rebounds and clear the puck - passing off their pads or blocker. Elite goalies like Andre vasilevsky have assist statistics on goals. Not many goalies have a lot of points like hockey players do - they rebound it so efficiently off their equipment to the defenceman and somebody scores at the other end off of your own goalies rebound or pass This is a much quicker game than when I was an original 6 kid, got to get that puck up much faster now They're not fore checking, organized nor fast enough to get behind defenses And when you don't have a strong defense, it's more likely that your scorers are going to end up in the penalty box. Taking them off the ice from scoring position and on the penalty kill Leafs need offensive defenseman that can shoot and score But if you don't have a goalie you can trust, the team is always going to play back on their heels. They have to handle the goalies rebounds for them. A good defense will keep the puck in your offensive zone supporting your forward lines It's a domino effect. Scoring starts with your goalie and defense and works its way up all 200 ft of the ice The game has definitely changed, and that starts with your defense getting the puck the he🏒🏒 out of there quickly! I'm sorry they've bled their lines dry. I read they've got 46% of salary cap in just a few players? It's a tough thing to look at. Not fair to players nor fans. So perhaps leafs need to bring in some veteran rentals on defense to get through the next few seasons while they rebuild their defensive end with no money. Or they're going to have to wait till there's a major cap increase for many teams to afford any one of those core players I don't understand how Toronto let assistant coach Spencer carberry go back to Caps. He was responsible for the franchise record setting power play and Nylander's career high season. 🤷 However, Toronto does have some great news, New York Rangers have been the top revenue team for over a decade - Toronto just passed them this year Leafs are the number one revenue team in the NHL now! 😁 56 years with no cup? 😆 Somebody's thinking more about bucks than pucks 🎤 Drop ✌️
No this is not how he usually plays , I’ll chalk it up to an off night. But I can say the same about Marner and Matthews. Kind of annoying such a big game and they all just no show
Recent article in the Boston Globe says Jack Edwards is in speech therapy trying to rehab it back. They've seen a ton of specialists and no one really knows how/why it happened.
@@Gr8erdetfan It's weird and nobody knows why. Sometimes he slurrs words, other times he botches names. Often times, he's a step slow. He understands he's getting older and slower as the game is getting faster. Seems to be a little better the last couple weeks--it was so bad that I thought he was about to pop a brain vessel on live TV when Pastrnak scored an OT goal in November. But with the different hospitals in the area, nobody knows (as of yet) why this is happening.
@@heliumtrophy seriously he’s 6’3 215 lbs and he can lay a hit and take a hit for sure, but if he was more physical he would be a force. Even though I hate the Leafs😂
That McAvoy is something else, I didn’t really see him make a bad play. Shut down everyone that came near him. Throwing hits, getting into a little scrap. I think I’d rather have him on my team over Makar, Hughes, or Fox
McAvoy is an absolute horse and super consistent. Tons of skill too, but he just shuts top guys down night in and night out. Still underrated, and he logs the most mins gamd in and game out. Its something special
more jxmy highroller than BDE - that just feels like peak adderall and a heap of run on sentences haha atleast there's a clear story here. all highly entertaining for sure though
6:13 - looking to just 3 players to give your team some backbone won't cut it even in the regular season. Being tough to play against requires a full team effort - lines one through four, and Toronto has never shown that in recent history. I checked Toronto off as a non-factor after they allowed Marchand to challenge their bench after injuring Liljegrin back in early November, and then did absolutely nothing to counter it for the remainder of the game.
Adding those 3 guys last summer was a copout. Let's add 3 rugged players, while keeping the soft Core intact, and hope that makes the team tougher and grittier. Every player on the Bruins has that backbone. Same with the Canes and the Panthers and the Rangers. There are no passengers. On the Leafs, the best players, the ones that wear letters and are the highest-paid are always the passengers. These are supposedly the leaders on their team, and they show nothing. Yeah Matthews might score 70 and Nylander will get his precious 100 points. But this team is not remotely close to competing for a cup. And this is another reason why you don't give guys their bag before they've won anything. Because now, they have their money and they're comfortable. They don't have to worry about facing accountability.
@@pomerlain8924: Sorry to speak so much "ad hominem", but there is a connection. Well, i was born in late November of 1967, so, ergo, i was in the womb the last time the Leafs won Lord Stanley's Cup... Well, it is time to publically and confidently predict that i will be long dead and buried before they ever win it again. Neither sad nor happy such is the case (i have lived and studied in T.O., the self-proclaimed Centre of the Universe, and had a love / hate relationship with the city), but Toronto will NEVER ever have to worry about an NHL victory parade as long as i am alive. Take this declaration to the bank...^^ P.S.: Perhaps the problem is that the sports gods really hate willfully bad spelling.--? After all, the word "Leafs" is illegitimate ("Leaves" is correct). Similarly, the new-fangled Edmonton Elks (the plural of "Elk" is STILL "Elk") of the CFL suck . Though i positively loathed them, they were a much more formidable team as the Edmonton Eskimos. As the badly-named Elks, however, they set a North American record for most consecutive home-stadium losses in a professional sports league... 😂
@@ColinWrubleski-eq5sh Hey man, don't be so down on yourself... There will probably be thermonuclear war and everyone will be dead and equal too before the Leafs win a cup. That or AI enslaves us all in which case we will all only wish we were dead.
Something that I think it’s important to point out that you missed is, I’m pretty sure Jake McCabe cross checked the rat because he poked him right in the balls with his stick earlier.
@@tylerbellows5358 What do you mean by "crayon eater". I have never heard that phrase used as a insult before except for when talking about a child in the 1st grade.
Doesn't matter how big or physical the other team is, the Leafs cave hard if you don't give them space to play with the puck. Nailed it with the Man-D vs Zone D comparison. This team is not built for playoff hockey, it's built to put on a show during the regular season.
I completely agree on what is said about Boston. They are solid on what they do. This team has been around long time and are a nightmare to face. Structure in offence and defence along with excellent goalies.. Great core and commitment team. Playoffs maybe another treat but I still like them even better than the last year. Just me maybe. But my bet is. If these two teams face POs... I bet on the one who has less changes on the late season. More tight knitted. I go for Boston even I am not a gambling man.
Does anyone else notice that the Boston play-by-play guy talks in slow motion? I watched the oilers-bruins game on the Boston broadcast and the opening of this reminded me of it haha
he's noticeably slowed down in the past few years. He recently said that he's been seeing doctors about it and they have no idea what's causing it. It's very unfortunate honestly
Man each series went 7 ..there was two stretch where Toronto beat them 8 times ..regular season means nothing..first two games went to ot this year ..they caught the leafs after road trip and playing 4 in 6
That crosscheck against DeBrusk was bad. Dont crosscheck people in the throat ffs. I saw nothing wrong with the crosscheck to the throat on Marchand. Clean hit.
@@Handicripple Reaves can't skate, let alone play hockey. Edmundson is a big body who doesn't throw his weight around. He just plants himself and doesn't move out of fear he night get hurt once again. Peeke is young 25 year old who can skate and hits hard. Being able to skate is integral for throwing hits.
Their best player hangs out with Justin Bieber. It's literally impossible to lead your team to a championship and be friends with Bieber at the same time.
teams do the same thing to the wings, and in general when teams get hounded they make more mistakes and are rarely able to set thier style of play to achieve a win.
After a couple of games with the Bruins - no one is expecting Matthews to score 75 this year. Woll didn’t stand up to defend himself in a goalie fight. That could hurt the Leafs come playoffs.😀
I have been watching the 62, 63, and 64 Leafs playoff runs on youtube These guys were unstoppable . They plowed through their opponents. The Habs especially had no answer, just getting out of their own zone I look at these leaf players today They will never match that "pit bull" tenacity . The old boys would die to win that cup I"m afraid it's hopeless
Funny how Edmonton is in the same boat in terms of being a top heavy team with having mcdavid and draisaitl, but ultimately is not a playoff team. People call them a cup contender and I wholeheartedly think as soon as they play Vancouver or Boston or Colorado they will fall like a loose brick on a building
Edmonton is not soft like Toronto. They are definitely top heavy though as it seems like players only score when they are with McDavid or Draisaitl. McDavid is definitely not playing soft this year as he has 97 hits compared to Matthews 71 hits while other superstars like MacKinnon and Kucherov lag behind with 49 hits and 37 hits...
If the NHL banned checking and defense the Leafs would be a dynasty. As a Wings fan, back in the early 90s I remember them being practically the same as the Leafs are now: loaded with talent, soft as a marshmallow. Didn’t play a lick of defense and just outscored everyone. Then the playoffs rolled around and they crumbled like a stale cookie. They finally brought in a tough coach, decided they wanted to win more than collect points and eventually hoisted some Cups. Matthews and Marner have the talent to dominate but just aren’t tough enough, physically and mentally. The Bruins are showing the Leafs how to win but for whatever reason the Leafs just refuse to learn.
Boston is a very aggressive team. Toronto has get on the puck carrier quick and someone has think where the options are for the puck carrier and cut it off. Boston is also also sneaky with their dirty plays. Toronto has to play the same way. Believe Marchand , Debrusk, McAvoy will flip out.
@@Yochillitsthatserious I'd love to see the Panthers make it to the SCF, a lot of fun to watch and it'll be interesting to see them as favourites rather then underdogs.
Consistently beat boston? The season series was 1-1 this year same with the last. I don’t think Edmonton consistently wins against boston. Oilers fans are truly insufferable
@@brendenrodgers7821 The Oilers are 11-5-2 against Boston in the last decade, considering that they were a bad team for much of it I think it's fair to say that they do well against the Bruins. 7-2 in TD Gardens to boot
And why wouldn't they. They have the Leafs number. They know exactly how far they can go without getting a response. They can seriously injure Leafs players and they won't get more than a chirp. Even if they did they can be sure the biggest scorers will be absent in the playoffs against them.
Boston has the goalie advantage, the D-advantage, the depth advantage, and the intangible advantage of wanting to avenge last season where it should have fallen into their laps... Toronto to Boston is like the Colorado Buffaloes college football rivalry vs the Nebraska Cornhuskers in the 1990's... a lot if talk, but nothing in the field... or better yet, the Leafs are the Black Knight protecting the bridge against King Arthur in Monty Python + the Holy Grail... Toronto has to get through the following to get the cup: Bruins, Rangers, Hurricanes, Panthers and if they survive that, they have to get past either Vancouver or Las Vegas or Colorado or Dallas or Edmonton or Winnipeg.... not to mention others that I may have forgotten. They dumped their future into 4 players... Tavares is getting old, Marner can't carry a team on his back. Whoever the Leafs play, they just meed to slow down Nylander and Mathews. The Leafs D can't match Boston, Florida, Carolina, Dallas or Las Vegas... Samsanov will not be able to match up to the goalies for Florida, Boston, Dallas, Las Vegas, Winnipeg or Vancouver... perhaps about on par w Shesterkin (maybe not)... Their depth is not even close to Edmonton... The only way the Leafs have a chance to win the cup thus year is if they give their jerseys to one of the other contenders.
@@Handicripple Uh huh. Meanwhile, nobody was alive to remember 1967 nor will the Leafs win another Cup for another 1,000 years at minimum, I guarantee it. Trash team. The Bruins at least had 2011.
As a fan I’ve never understood why guys cross check immediately to the face. I’ve so many watched net battles where guys will give each other 4/5/6 cross checks to the legs, arms back and shit isn’t called either way
Wishing to play an opponent is what happened to Toronto and Boston last year and look where they ended up. You never know what will happen in the playoffs.
A crying shame the Leafs are seemingly married to the core for another so many years. No team balance, no D, no secondary scoring, no team toughness, no goaltending, nothing worthy in development, and absolutely no draft capital A crying Shame...
REAVES is a beast throwing good solid checks, but his presence has Not helped the three that need to stand up for themselves.Your team will have your back, grow a pair .
Why a background music when your content and your voice are ALREADY music to our ears? Love your channel, probably in the Top 5 among YT hockey channels,
As a Leaf fan I absolutely loath the lack of team response and responsibility of the bling boys aka “the core 4”.. it’s still not a team. It’s the overpayed price horses vs the heavy labor crew. Shameful and sad 😔
I hate the Bruins but you're 100% when you said "do you think the Bruins make this pact or do they just know it's a non-negotiable?" Frankly no team should have to voice that. It should be a non-negotiable regardless.
Y’all literally find a reason to hate for everything. They was excited that their team finally won a round so they started chanting for both. Nothing wrong w that. Stop being soft
Bertuzzi absolutely cooked wootherspoon in his fight, but McAvoy didn't even have his gloves off, i think Domi would've had a bit more trouble if he didnt jump him to the ground
