When I first started out creating videos I never knew when to shoot in 24fps or 60fps, so I ended up shooting most things at 60fps, I soon regretted it... the above video goes into why you should know the difference between 24fps and 60fps

WOW. Very helpful video Jayden. I've been shooting everything at 4K/60fps due to the simplicity of it. Now I actually know the difference and for what shots they should be used. Great informative video. Gave it a like and sub fosho. Thanks.

a couple things right off the bat, the framerate of this youtube video is 24, just right click and select "stats for nerds" to get the info. Another thing, If you're shooting at 24fps you want to set your shutter at 48, not 50. If you set it at 50, every 48 frames you will have a couple of half exposed frames, and you will have a ton of rolling shutter. If you camera only allows 50 shuter, shoot at 25fps.

Thanks for the clear explination. I was looking for why my video editor (ClipChamp) was taking forever to load videos shot from my GoPro and loaded videos from my old digital camera real quick. Looking through the details the camera native fps was 30, gopro was set at 60. Looking at previous videos from my gopro after being run though ClipChamp they're all set at 30fps, must be converting it from 60 to 30 while loading so it takes forever. Everythings shot in 1080P and output the same so I knew it wasn't that. No point in filming 60 if the program converts to 30 and now I know the difference between the 2, I have no need for slow mo, so you my friend just saved me hours of waiting to edit my biking videos

I've often thought about 60fps in real time and then you'd have to shoot 120 fps and slow by 50% to get slow motion on that 60fps real time
@iancraig

Try shooting 60fps at 1/60th second shutter. You get the smoothness of 60fps plus close to motion blur of 24. (Actually, same motion blur as 30fps footage)

Thanks for the explanation Jayden! So you reckon that shooting 60fps and dragging into a 24fps timeline doesn't have the same cinematic quality as if you were to shoot at 24fps to being with, right? I wonder if there are any plugins for Premiere that can simulate the motion blur of 24fps on footage that was shot at 60fps (but placed on a 24fps timeline)?
@davefink2326
@davefink2326 8 месяцев назад
You can play with shutter speed that brings in blur to every frame of 60p. If you do that, software can extract 24 frames for each second and present those. Convincingly. It's a good way to remove that soap-opera fluidity.

Hi Jayden, loved the video! I have a question for you. I film and produce edits of motorbike racing. In the past, I have filmed everything in 50fps, and the slowed clips down which I'd like to appear in slow motion. During filming, i'm not always sure which clips I'd like to have in slow motion, and which I won't. I film riders racing round the track, and also B roll footage. What do you think is my best option for frame rates? Film everything in 120? Pick and choose frame rates depending on what I think I'm going to use the clip for?
@camrowe466
@camrowe466 Год назад
Film it all at 120fps then convert the shots you dont slow down to 30fps. Depending on how slow you go, if your sequence is 30fps and you film in 120fps, to make it seamless, you can slow 120fps down to 25%

Im a novice at best and a hobbiest at worst when it comes to filming. I backpack and only very recently started filming my trips on a GoPro 10. Always under the impression that more frames would equal a clearer shot, i filmed my entire trip to the boundary waters in 4k60. The video is posted to my channel. Do you think that it would have looked better in 24fps? Virtually all of my shots were real time. There is one moment where we were passing by some water lillys quickly and i noticed that jitter in frames and wonder if 24fps would have made that look better. Any help to improve my filming would be appreciated.

Cool video, thanks! Quick question : how would you deal with sound if you want to record in 30 fps and slow down to 24 or 25 fps? (100% rookie question, apologies if this is basic)
@TaoCovillault
@TaoCovillault Год назад
I see there is no answer for that one... I would say, it depend your content. 30 to 24fps is a 80% speed, so if it's for a b-roll, someone walking, machine, sport, even crowed cheering or whatever which type of ambiant sound should mostly be okay. Basically, in the case keeping the sync is more important than a non distorded audio. But obviously, in an interview, it would be a big no for me... Just shoot inteviews in native framerate (export framerate). Now, there is an affect that can be cool in some case, if the sync isn't necesary: slow down the clip but keep the audio at 100% speed. In some case it's actually nice, but in this case 80% isn't enough slowmo for my taste. At the end it all depend on whats your video about ;)

Jayden. Thanks for the lesson ! Question : Why is it important to double the shutter speed ? Is it the only way to gain the "cinematic" look and smooth tempo ? Not possible with faster shutter speed ?
@manueltennox7725

higher shutter speed reduces the "natural motion blur" that he talks about, which makes 24fps shots feel the way that he's talking about

Hopefully, someone can help me because I still have the following question. Suppose I have different shots, some at 24 fps and others at 60 fps, which I combine for a video. I use the 60 fps footage for slow-motion and the 24 fps for real-time. I always use CapCut mobile, and now the question is: should I export in 24 fps, which I understand as the 'timeframe,' or should I export in 60 fps? My guess from the video = always export in 24 fps even the 60 fps shots?
