Super Bell Subway, N64 Ranbow Road, Toad Harbor, Mario Kart Stadium, and Toad Turnpike all take place in TOAD CITY, this confirmed by the map seen in the subway.
That means that Melody Motorway (Music Park) and Yoshi Valley aren’t very far from Toad City as trains run to and from these location quite quickly, as shown on the timetables
7:30 I know it's hardly noticeable, but Electrodrome isn't just one nightclub but rather an entire city. You can see numerous buildings surrounding you and there is also no ceiling, just a nightsky with the visible moon. It may be true that Electrodrome is a part of Neo Bowser City though
small correction but electrodrome actually takes place outside the club's exterior! you can tell because you can see the moon and buildings in certain parts of the map
Sunshine airport isn't exactly on Isle Delfino, but instead is the airport that took Mario, Peach, Toadsworth and some Toads to it. Also, the Koopa Beach in the background suggest it is nearby the N64 track (and maybe even the SNES Koopa Beaches)
Interesting video! Something I never gave much thought to but definitely neat to think about. One thing to note: I am very surprised you so quickly dismissed the Wario-Water Park connection. While it may seem improbable or strange, Water Park is definitely a Wario-themed course, at least to an extent. Someone else already mentioned the big W logo as bearing Wario's mustache, but there is also an attraction called "Waluigi Sea bed" to the left of the starting area. You can see it if you pause the video at around 1:52. As for Thwomp Ruins, all that comes to mind for me is Whomp's Domino Ruins from Super Mario Party. Not sure if Sweet Sweet Canyon is outside of the Mario world, but it looks like some kind of joint effort between Peach and Daisy, based on the decorations/logos and such. And if you're going to make connection to Super Mario Galaxy, maybe Cloudtop Cruise is set in Gusty Garden Galaxy? The theming and music seem to reference it heavily.
My theory for Wild Woods was somewhere near the Somnom woods from Mario & Luigi Dream Team. There's no definitive proof or anything, but I get the same general vibe from the two locations.
The possibility of Dragon Driftway taking place in the Chai Kingdom is actually really exciting. But speaking of Sarasaland, Shyguy falls could take place in the Easton Kingdom as the 2nd level and parts of the 3rd heavily feature waterfalls and caves within rocky locations, and based on the cover art of the game, would be the mountains. Plus, Daisy and shyguys have this sort of weird connection to each other
I think water park is in Wario city from Super sluggers since Nokis can be in both and the W is similar enough that they could be trying to use the Wario w but couldn’t get the rights
i would agree, were it not for the scarcity (if not outright non-existence) of mushroom/koopa kingdom enemies in dk games. it would be very strange for the dk part of the world to have one part with tons of mario enemies and then have the rest of the area feature none at all
Shy Guy Falls might be set on Subcon. Worlds 1, 3 and 5 look similar enough. And even Wild Woods might be there too, considering we have giant trees in 5-3 .
Ah ye!!! I love Mario kart for this! I used to be much more active in a subreddit called "Marioverse" and there was a lotta discussion about this stuff! Also, for Sunshine Airport, you can see the Rock from the old N64 Koopa... Beach? Koopa Circuit? So, I always assume that it is on or around the Turtle shaped island we see to the east of Isle Delfino?
It's N64 Koopa Troopa Beach, and yeah, said Koopa rock can be clearly seen in the background at 5:48. Although I don't think the island itself is an exact match from the one in Mario Kart 64, judging by the shape, lack of stone walls, and abundance of grass. Maybe they got the same stone carver that did the statue in N64 Koopa Troopa Beach to make a replica on another island.
Probably on surrounding islands - Isle Delfino is explored in its entirety in Super Mario Sunshine and there’s absolutely no space for any of those tracks on the island.
13:04 while I agree that this map is completely unreliable, at least we can learn 1 thing from this, Sweet Sweet Canyon is set on Earth. And with that in mind (and the fact it's close to Bone Dry Dunes, but again, this is unreliable), I would set the course in Layer Cake Desert from nsmbU
Not necessarily. Subway maps show how the different train lines connect. Not literal locations. And the train might pass through a warp pipe to get between those locations.
This doesn't really confirm nor deny anything but it's worth noting that Sweet Sweet Canyon is implied to be a creation of Peach and Daisy, since their Royal Patisserie logo is seen all over the track, a giant crown with both their emblems surrounding it is seen on top of the giant cake in the middle of the track, the spectator stands where the gingerbread men are seen are actually bakery packaging and the ocean is made with huge bottles of Princess Orange soda (take a guess who that's made by). I just find the idea that the princesses made a giant desert canyon out of baked goods to be really funny (as an Adventure Time fan though, can't say this is an entirely foreign concept to me)
Now this is the type of world building I like to think about when it comes to the Mario Series. It makes these tracks feel more lived than just random locations floating in an aimless abyss
Oooh I love the concept for this video so much! It'd be even more satisfying to mark them down on a Mario world map, I'd love to see that map develop with more and more pins over multiple videos. I know there isn't a reliable map of the mario world to use, but... maybe that's a video project of it's own, lol. I think that Shy Guys Falls is a shoo-in for Yoshi's Island! The large population of Shy Guys is the most direct connection, but even that aside, I think the landscape resembles Yoshi's Island, or at least the surrounding Dinosaur land, quite a lot! Especially in the way it's depicted in Mario World, on the world map. The tall, orange-toned hills and cliffsides with greenery at the top matches up nicely, IMO. There are even prominent waterfalls on that world map! I can think of one desert level with sand as red as that of Bone-Dry Dunes- Tostarena! Perhaps this track takes place somewhere near there, in the Sand Kingdom? There's a connection in the skeletal motif, as well. The Mario land connection with Dragon Driftway is awesome, I didn't know about that one! Love to see that side of the universe enriched a bit. Also, I totally agree with your decision to place Sweet Sweet Canyon near the Sweet Sweet Galaxy! I think that's the right call, and it's fun to think that the more exotic maps can take place way outside their Earth. I agree about the Wild Woods being closest to Wood Kingdom, I could see them being close by at least, even though it's not a perfect match. Boggly Woods feels way too different, IMO... Looking forward to future installments in this!
There is no game that abbreviates to that. If you mean the game in the DS. It’s literally just called “New super Mario Bros” (or NSMB for short.) there is no “DS” in its name
Always love a good video going into the surprisingly connected lore of Mario Kart 8. Considering that these get referenced in other stuff too like Odyssey and even the movie, I really hope Nintendo adds cool little details like this in the next Mario Kart game too
my theory is that Wild Woods is somewhere at Donkey Kong Island Remember those Ewok Village levels from Donkey Kong Country? The village seen in Wild Woods looks pretty similar. If you want a better look of the Ewok Village, then look at Vine Valley from DKC Returns
All characters and courses in the DLC were originally created for Mario Kart Tour, but if you're talking about release/reveal dates, you are correct. I won't list every course like this, but for the new ones, there is also Sky-High Sundae and Squeaky Clean Sprint.
I can think of an explanation for how Moo Moo Meadows and GCN Sherbet Land can be close by to one another. Seasons; It’s clearly winter in Sherbet Land, and spring or summer in Moo Moo Meadows.
8:45 you mention that the red sand in Bone-Dry Ruins isn't seen anywhere else in the Mario world, but isn't it just possible that the sand looks particularly red because the race is taking place near sunset, and would look more like normal yellow-brown sand under regular lighting?
No. It can’t be the lighting because lighting affects the appearance of everything in an area, and the characters remain unaffected. it must therefore be the texture itself that is red.
I would assume the Water Park is meant to be partially underwater, if it panders to Nokis. Especially with the strong shell aesthetic it has. Its either designed by Nokis, or a tourist trap for them. Thwomp Ruins reminds me alot of Thwomp Volcano from Partners in Time. But it may also be closely related to Whomps Domino Ruins from the recent Mario Party game. Potentially both arose in the same area, but its hard to tell how connected Whomps and Thwomps truly are. They share many aesthetics and similar designs, but theres rarely ever any direct correlation between them with in game lore. I would wager Shy Guy falls is somewhere on Yoshis Island. With the only caveat being that most mountains in that island are the toony cylindrical pill-shaped colorful mountains. But its up to you whether thats an artistic liberty, or straight up how the mountains look. There is ONE example as far as I know of oil drilling the Mario Universe. Which was from a album Nintendo commissioned artists to make about Mario and literacy... It was a different time. That album includes a favorite of mine, "Ignorance is Bliss" by Jellyfish, where Bowser is specifically described as an Oil Tycoon, and trying to get fossil fuels out of Dinosaur land, but cannot read his book of spells because he is illiterate. So maybe its a frozen part of Dinosaur Land, which ironically from memory I remember no frozen parts of Super Mario World.
@@PiantapediaYT,if you listen closer to the Track’s Music & played Super Mario Galaxy, you would know that Cloudtop Cruise is based of Gusty Garden Galaxy!!
Personally, I think Sweet Sweet Kingdom is around one of the sugary areas in the Sprixie Kingdom, since there isn’t much evidence the course is in space, and 3D World is the only other Mario game to feature candy-themed levels, IIRC.
When I was younger I thought Mount Wario was the same location of Winter Sports Champion Race from Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winters Games Sochi 2014
My guess would be Sky high sundae = same place as sweet sweet canyon Squeaky clean sprint: same location as ribbon road, possibly a reference to toy time galaxy from super mario galaxy
