I’m sure you’ve already realised that finding a job as a non-native English teacher is difficult. Especially the in private sector.
If you go in forums or groups for non-natives, you might hear some horrible stories. Such as this one, for example.
That’s why I wanted to inject some positivity. And record a few videos about places where you can and should teach English as a non-native speaker.
In this video I want to focus on Belgium. I'll give you four reasons why I think it's a great place to teach English in as a non-native speaker.
If you want more tips like that, follow my channel and checkout my courses on TEFL Equity Advocates & Academy: teflequityadvocates.com/academy/ Follow me on FB: / teflequity

Hi! First of all, congratulations on your great videos, they are very helpful. I was wondering, though this might be an obvious question, you need a UE password to teach there, don't you? Thanks in advance.

Sir I can't open your website from Algeria, I want the comment template you talked about to send it to recruiters only looking for native speakers

The problem with Belgium and pretty much any European country is that you need an European passport, but it's great that they don't discriminate against non-native speaker teachers in Flanders.

Yes, I guess you're right there. I mean, there's nothing that stops the employer from arranging a visa for a non-EU citizen, but this rarely happens, as it would be very time consuming.

Thanks a lot; however sir, you didn't mention what qualifications are required to teach at university level & how to apply. I would very much appreciate it if you could drop a line or two. By the way, if a guy as a non-native speaker holds an IELTS band 9, do you think s/he can land a job in those countries you mentioned in which one is required to be a native?

Thanks for this and apologies for not replying earlier. In Belgium, you'll need an MA degree. This is the case in most universities in the EU. There are many websites where job ads for universities are posted. Check out Times Higher Education, baleap or jobs.ac.uk

I'm a native speaker with an MA degree, in addition to TESOL and TEFL certificates. However, my MA degree is not in Education. I have 3 years' experience teaching English in Vietnam. I'm debating which country to teach in, perhaps Poland as you mentioned. Considering the need for higher qualifications in Flanders, would my qualifications be suitable in Belgium?

I think you might struggle to find jobs in universities. You'd most likely be asked for an MA in TESOL or a similar field. I haven't met anyone teaching in universities here who wouldn't have one. You could try private language schools, but there aren't many in Flanders

Where can I teach english as a non native in PUBLIC schools?
@TEFLEquityAdvocates

Thanks for your comment! It depends a lot on the country, but most places will require you to possess the local teaching qualification or an equivalent. If the equivalent is from your country, you'll have to validate it. So for example, to teach English in Polish high schools, you need an MA degree in English philology. If you have one from your own country, you'd have to likely validate it. Hope this helps.
