The two bedroom I shared with a buddy in 1985 (after graduating Columbia in 1983) at 123 and Broadway was $900/month. Manhattan prices now just boggle the mind. Just be happy to live in the dorms as an undergraduate. What graduate students do now? I have no idea.
Relative to the cost of university, I imagine the rents are still more affordable. However, most of the time students are paying with loan money or their parents are paying.
Honestly there really isn’t an affordable area of New York City. It’s all become outrageously expensive. Then again there will be some students from well heeled families so maybe those students can afford NYC rentals.
Hey, Matthew. Correct, the prices are reinforced by the demand. I agree it's expensive, but remember, the NYC schools are in high demand, housing supply is low and these are schools that are quite costly as well.
Nontraditional students, part-time students and graduate students at the traditional campus are not required to live on campus, but may submit a request to live on campus to the Director of Residential Life. Incoming first-year students at Columbia College (CC) or the Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) are required to live on campus and are guaranteed four consecutive years of housing. Lmk if that answers your questions. If you need help with an apartment, I am a real estate broker and work a lot with Columbia Students. Please email me: Justin@opgny.com
@@JustinDiGiulio thank you very much for responding. i am only checking if it is mandatory and if the case may change under certain circumstances. do you by chance know if living on campus entails agreement to stay there every day or are students allowed to go home in a place nearby according to their preferences? again, thank you
@@CL-zu3hs I imagine that you can stay in other locations on occasion. Because of the influence of Coronavirus, there are likely a lot of exceptions, but if you're open to holding a dorm, I believe that should satisfy their housing requirements. My advice would be to contact the school directly and find out.
