If you ever come about making a video, I''m actually interested in hearing your relationship with the #14 truck team. I do recall in a past video of you being in the truck as a kid. However, did you ever tried to make an effort into pursuing a racing career? I know it was always a dream of mine and unfortunately in my case I didn't 'know' people within' the sport or even had the resources of how to get there. The 90s popularity made it difficult and hell I never was able to find a way to even get a garage pass...
I just recently discovered you and your RU-vid channels and I did wonder, why 42? Now I learn that you were a hockey player as well! Hockey and Nascar is something I have been passionate about ever since I can remember! Hockey is like a religion where I come from in Newfoundland, Canada but for some reason my brother and I were huge fans of stock car racing, especially Nascar. I'm loving your content, keep up the great work and I wish you great success going forward! :-)
The number 42 has been an absolute icon in my life since 1977 when I was 13 years old. I went to the circle track races and I liked the look of the 42 on the orange car with white number, outlined in black. I had no idea at the time that the driver lived 5 houses away from me. I walked there in 2 minutes, literally. Right around the corner. Became friends with the driver. The number 42 comes up extremely often in my life, in the strangest ways, at the strangest times. I told this to other people, and they're like "OMG, you're right, me too!". Case-in-point, this video popped up randomly on my feed. No reason. I had to click on it! I did a project for art school in 1985 that was nothing but "42's" that I found in magazines, photos, street signs, you name it. I still have it. I have a huge box full of 42's that I found throughout the decades. All sorts of items with 42 on them. I was on a bike ride last week and this homeless guy was coming toward me on a junky bike and he had made a sign and put it on a box on the front of the bike that said "RANDOM 42". I almost shit my shirt. I'm tellin' ya, that number pops up everywhere I go, and this video randomly popping up on my feed is proof.
Geno fan here also. Also, as someone who lives in SWPA, I've said forever that being a NASCAR fan in Steelers land is the loneliest fandom ever. I used to live in southern Maryland and would see the haulers whenever they were heading to Dover or new Hampshire or Pocono, while riding the school bus. Ugh I miss those days, I had NASCAR friends back then, only ever had one in the last twenty years. I was and forever always will be a Davey Allison fan, so i drew a lot of Halvoline 28's growing up. I had a Davey snap tite monogram kit that i loved to death.
Can confirm about getting laughed at liking nascar, or just cars in general in Pittsburgh. All throughout school people always made fun of me liking cars and racing. Idk why, but I'd rather be a car guy than watch a bunch of dudes get paid millions to throw a ball.
42 was the number I were from Pop Warner Football all the way through High School. Years later all 3 of my sons were 42 in football as well. So now it's a legacy number in my family.
My original name came in 2011 when I first made my channel cuz that's when I was BIG into the longboarding scene with my friends, we called ourselves the Fab 4 just like The Beatles, so MikeSkateTV came to life
No, I do not remember the 69 conversation! I remember number 13 thing. I also didn’t know your dads favorite number was 24. Lol Shelby didn’t mess it up she made it more adorable. ❤
I don't usually post to videos, but it's just crazy how we've crossed paths in a way. Pittsburgh kid myself that played hockey. I migrated to NC to play minor league hockey. I came back to the burgh when my mom got sick, but NC has always felt like home to me. If you ever make it back up here, I know a bunch of guys that aren't afraid to admit we're nascar fans that will welcome you.
Funny, I thought midway through this video my comment would read something to the affect of "that's 20 min of my life I'll never get back listening to a rant about numbers"...but surprisingly it was a fairly enjoyable watch 😂
Cool to hear the story. Incidentally, I drove Kevin Harvick's car at Texas Motor Speedway. You should go do that, and document it! I learned that day that NASCAR drivers are, in fact, athletes!!! I only got to do 10 laps, and I wanted more, but $$$. Nowadays, 10 is probably about all I could handle.
Very cool story! We all have a certain number we used in years past, mine used to be "4x" during my crazy-ass desert and MX racing times some 45 or 50 years ago as a fearless teenager and young adult. I remember when Kevin Harvick was introduced in '01 as the "replacement" driver for Dale Earnhardt(no one could ever replace Dale), and his first words were, "I'm not Dale Earnhardt, but I will do my best to fill some big shoes." We all saw how hard he drove to prove himself after Dale's untimely death and all. His number was 29. Thanks so much for explaining all this to us, much appreciated, Mitch! You & Logan keep up the great work in both your channels! There with you!
Lee Petty drove number 42. Richard drove number 43 because his dad was 42. Lee was driving number 42 when he won the first Daytona 500 in a contested photo finish.
It's cool that you still have the picture you drew at 7 years old. You should get Jeff Gordon to autograph it. I love what you guys do to preserve the history of when Nascar was great.
I have one of a Bobby Allison car I drew when I was 8 or so. He did sign it for me recently and was very happy to know someone who is 27 now was drawing his racecars as a kid
was looking up videos of big block exausts the other day and came across your monte carlo with the 502 and the boom tubes where it looked like it was filmed on a camcorder absolutly beutiful car
Interesting journey on the number. 13 would work for me--got it from my Dad. I too was/am a Kevin Harvick Fan, but I started back when he started running the Blue Deuce the #2 AC Delco car--I thought it was a good looking car. The paint job he ran from '03 to '06 similar to yours is the best paint scheme for me all time. Thx!
That is a touching story, I really like your channels and the knowledge that we gained from the people y’all have interviewed was awesome. Thank you for everything!
Watched this when it came out. These types of videos are the best - just feels like I’m sitting here having a conversation with ya through this little screen haha. Keep it up, like the videos as always Mitchell! Hope to see more from this channel🤙🏻
Oh boy am i late again on this 1 oh well i will watch it and write something down u 2 so now i will say thanks fer sharing part of ur journey with us folks And super congrates to u and the young gal too
I'm going to give you a quick history on my nascar...I was born in 78...Harry Gant was my driver until he retired in 94..I was watching the Daytona 500 in 95 not quite knowing who I was going to pull for..then Sterling won it for the second year in a row...that was my driver...I absolutely love the the video you did with Larry McClure...thank you Mitch...love all your content
Great story and explanation on the 42 number, Hockey was my oldest sons go to sport, when they couldn't get to the ice they used roller blades and played in the street it was literally a 24/7/365 sport for him. Thanks for the great sit down talk, I enjoyed it.
When my buddy ran quarter midgets his number was also 42 and has stuck with him since also crazy enough your dad and I have the same favorite number 24…. I’ve always loved Gordon growing up
Can confirm being a car guy in/around Pittsburgh is tough. As a teenager being into cars and trucks there were not very many like minded guys to hang out with. So i too was an oddball in my school where everyone was into sportsball and I wasn't. Cool history of the #42 in your handle. I wondered if it was somehow tied back to racing.
I grew up a Dale Sr fan # 3 and I always loved Kyle Petty especially the Mellow Yellow # 42 . Always my favorite two numbers because of those guys. When I saw the 42 on your car that’s what I thought of
Mitchell, Since you are a Pittsburgh guy at heart, it would be great if you could do a video on Jennerstown Speedway. One of the oldest tracks in the nation dating back to the 1920s. REALLY enjoy your videos! Go Steelers & Pens!
Great story and history behind you. As a kid I went for underdogs as well. I liked A.J. Foyt. His 70's and early 80' cup cars were #51. He later changed to #14. But I liked the way he had the #51 painted on with a cool shadow. I painted my car to look like Foyts Oldsmobile from the early 90's.
My favorite number has always been 4. It was my Dad's number when he raced Strictly Stocks at Thompson Speedway and Waterford Speedbowl. When I can't use the 4 when I race I run the 14 because that was our neighbor down the road's number when he ran a late model.
Hey Mitch, you got a kinda shout out on the Dale Jr Download. They talked about the Dale Sr. Newell you looked at that was for sale. Thanks again for the content Y’all
I appreciate you and your camera girl showing awesome videos on nascar history!I purchased one of your gm goodwrench style shirts!Keep up the good work 👏
Thats pretty cool, I've always run with 38. I was told it was my grandads racing number back in the day and I raced the number in dirt karts. Now I race dirt track RC cars and my number is 38 still, and just happened to be Dales and JRs numbers combined. If I ever get to build a car like yours, I'll put 38 and an 80s paint scheme.
42 was my H.S. football number from 1965 -1969. "69" was on my letter jacket for lettering in wrestling 4 years My other favorite numbers 7 Mickey Mantle, 3 Harmon Killebrew, 7X for stock car. All these numbers I gave no thought to how they looked. My absolute least favorite number is 15. My draft number when there was lottery for military draft during Vietnam War.
I wanna hear the story about the Monte Carlo I love that car and you inspired me to put some boom tubes my truck I still have to buys some and my favorite number is 34 idk why but I also think it was cool.
great video Mitchell, everyone has a story about their number in sports your story is great. my number was 15 in basketball and football and baseball. well mine was because the smallest kids got the small number and size. i was always the tallest so i got 15 alot. whe i met greg moore in 1969 there car was 15 it just kinda fit . been best friends ever since. course thats not the whole story.
Oh it was I did that job for 13 years and I do miss it but racing has also been my passion to and I was the same way I still have a storage unit full of hockey sticks from over those years lol that my hockey teammates and players worked with gave me lol
My only ring I got to was in the echl with the Allen Americans team it was super cool to hoist the Kelly cup trophy and y'all have to make it out to Texas motor speedway one of these days it's and amazing track and amazing great old school style Winston Cup there
They tried shoving hockey on WNC up state SC. literally couldn't give tickets away the lakes don't freeze thick enough . i dont know anyone that can ice skate. Ive only seen one rink in Atlanta in the 70s. But did watch the Danbury trashers Documentary funny stuff
First off Shelby is a shop dog and it’s great to see her in the videos. Also thank you for the extended explanation of the number. It would have been so easy for you to say it was your hockey number and that’s it, but having the extended story was way cool. I do have to ask how’s the Newell? I miss the videos on it and was wondering if you ever did the black light test in it?
I don't really get why but, I really think you should actually compete in a stock car racing series that uses these Gen 4 cars, or older now that you have the Gen 4 NASCAR stock car. Just like at Rockingham Speedway, where they do the classic stock car racing there. That would be a pretty cool video to watch.
Your truck is cool but I personally hope u make your races your storyline way more. I mean we can all get invested in your season and placing. And that way we get more upgraded in the car and it’s upgrades. I really hope u show us yer races. I know that’s a lot for your woman to handle. But would be soooooo great 😊
My Hockey number was 12 don’t remember why then my daughter picked 26 for motocross because it was Malcolm Smith’s number ( the motorcycle great) she goes to Carnegie Mellon school of music now so I’m stealing 26
My username came from when I was just getting my driver's license and drove a 1979 Ford Pinto wagon. I was signing up for my first ever email address with Hotmail. Yes, on dial-up internet. I thought it would be funny to mix the name of a cool car and a not cool car, like Firebird and Pinto. The Irony was the icing on the cake.
5. My favorite number is 5 and has been since I was 5. I really don't know why. What's the chances of having a 6" tall Pickle Chicken on the new stock car? It would be my way of a ride along. Plus it might be a conversation item in the future?!
Well this was very interesting! I love stories like this but wow didn't realize you went through many number changes! But good for you that you eventually found your number and stuck with it! For a moment there I thought your a Pablo Juan Montoya fan. 😜 I'm equally impressed with your knowledge of hockey! Personally all I knew was racing from ages 8-21. Once Dale past away I end up watching baseball which little to my knowing at the time, Dale Earnhardt had some sort of relation to the mlb team I was watching. (Mind you he was a Atlanta Braves fan). Well you see Dale bought a minor league ball club known as the Kannapolis Intimidators (single A) which is tied to (single A+) Winston-Salem which is tied to triple-A Charlotte Knights which is tied to double-A Birmingham which ultimate leads to the Chicago White Sox. Good thing you didn't play baseball because you probably would get lost going through the ranks. As for personal favorite numbers, it's #34 and there are many ties to that as well in racing, both locally and nationally.
