the lack of gender difference options has remained a consistent problem. some time ago, AJHQ released the Peacock, an avatar based off the Indian Peafowl. the issue is, the design is based only off the male, and gives no options for a more accurate female form, which would be called a peahen. I guess the reason they leave female versions out is because the male versions are "more interesting". I hope more animals with gender difference options get released soon, or maybe different avatars entirely could be made for the different gender forms.
@@v3xdraws A lot of people do care, you're not everybody else and you don't decide if nobody else wants them, the results do, and the results say people do. It is an animal game. An animal game with a heavy zoology theme. You might not want them, but others do.
There is also a philosophical aspect of this sharp edges make things seem strong and more alert , soft and round edges are more delicate and sweet for a younger audience I thought I would mention this because this makes animal jam animal jam
A lot of people hate the cats and dogs, but I love them. Maybe it's because I'm a felinogy/cynology nerd, or because I love warrior cats and it makes easy cosplays, but I really like them (with.. exceptions).
Aj definitely went through a period where their avatars were not that great (2020-2021) and tried to cover that up by releasing a bunch of cute little cats and dogs lol. I do think the designs are getting better again (like the zebra, cow, quokka, even the goofy lil anteater is great!)
There was a math game called Prodigy that I used to play back when I was in 5th grade, and they started to change the designs of the creatures about a few years later. I really don't like how they've been changed imo because they made them more cute and innocent looking with less details on them rather than having them look a little more realistic and having lots of detail to essentially have the creatures look "cool." I feel like the game has turned into something more kid-friendly, like animaljam. I really don't play Prodigy anymore since they started changing the creature designs. It's been about a year and a half since I last logged in, but when I was watching this video of animal designs changing, it's what i thought of.
The quokka has to be my favourite animal. I have the perfect outfit for it, a sun visor, flip flops, sunglasses, and a backpack. Perfect for the environment they live in
The lioness one bothers me because my sona is a lioness and I can’t play as her in AJ because there is only a lion option lol, I tend to use the cheetah as a lioness the best I can instead, I wish and hope they one day release a Lioness avatar or at least an option to remove the mane from the existing Lion one
I really want AJ to add Jaguars, pigs, and Squirrels as an animal but lately animal jam sometimes has bad designs. When they came out with the cats I wasn’t a big fan of some of them. Some looked weird and just no. So even if they add these animals I hope they make it a bit better. Also I agree with you on the lion. I kinda wish if aj made it where you can change into a lioness. Also I kinda wish Aj bring back more of their older animals. Some of them are ones that I really want. (Sorry this comment is kinda long)
I completely agree, we need toggles for otters and lions for their counterparts, I know with the otter it's a bit different but they can't change the fact that the otter has been somewhat merged together with each variant which would make it difficult for it to just be a new animal
This is kinda off-topic but I also REALLY love river otters and I know the differences as well, and I relate to the frustration surrounding the confusion between sea otters and river otters lol
I'm late to this video so I'm not sure if you'll see this but I felt inspired to write about why some of your problems with the older animals exist. I'm not sure when you started playing Animal Jam so I'm sorry if I'm giving a history lesson you already knew about. Early on in Animal Jam's history I imagine Wildworks probably didn't want to create specific animal species because many kids don't really think about the different species of animals. To many, wolves are just wolves, bunnies are bunnies. They may look different, but Wildworks main goal was just to create designs that appealed to kids and were very clear in what they are. And like you mentioned, AJ's art style has changed alot over time. Looking at the classic beta art style and even up until around 2013ish, everything is less round and cute. Sometimes I prefer that, but then other times it doesn't look great. So, Lions, then. Lions in classic were designed to be cool. To be big and awesome and make everyone in the room look at you. They were exclusive to membership gift cards, all of them were called "King of the Jungle". And of course, when you're making a cool lion you're going to give them a mane. And you'd also give them one because that's what kids often imagine lions looking like, even if they do know female lions don't have manes. Because of how AJ Classic animals are put together and animated, giving the ability to remove the mane would've been a nightmare animation-wise. That's double the work for all head items and an even longer process of adjusting hats frame by frame. So they just stuck with only having a mane. This then got carried over into Play Wild because all of the old animals are just remade versions of Classic animals. The lion's actual design that they were translating, even, was shaped around the mane. The shape of the face I don't think would look right if you took off the mane. Nowadays, times have changed. Cows were designed with more customization in mind from the start (shocking, coming from the same people who decided dinosaurs should be less customizable and a lottery on what colors you get). And cow horns and utters are also just easier to take on and off than a whole mane for lions. I do agree that it would be good to have a lioness animal, though. I'm glad that AJ's animal design has evolved and they're willing to add extra special features for certain animals. It would've been nice to have that with moose and goats on classic, having their horns built in. Anyways I enjoyed this video and will definitely be watching more. Great work!

Great video! But something about the cows was a little wrong or just unclear. While yes female cows and heifers do have utters and bulls don't have utters since they are male, female cows and heifers can have horns! Bulls can also have horns! Some cow breeds can't have horns while some can! Take for instance you will normally always see longhorns have horns but you will never see a pure black angus have horns (from what I have researched on black angus) you can also de horn cows but I won't get to far into that, you will almost never see a holstein with horns holsteins are dairy cows so while most of them can grow horns they are normally de horned! Oh also steers can have horns but don't always. 😁

I would love to see a video on the whole cats and dogs since I was their when that happened waiting for an anteater but no a bunch of cat and dog breeds As for AJ newer designs I don’t mind it a lot I think both styles have pros and cons but if they all are able to fit in the same game without looking weird(with only minor exceptions….looks at the Arctic hare and the tuffed deer) then I’m personally fine with it I guess one more thing I do wanna mention do you have plans on talk about how detailed most animals have been getting like the wild dog or the anteater or even the cow they all have more stuff in them that makes their designs more unique and in my opinion more interesting then the OG animals
@@kijjikon yay also to fill you in on something painted wolfs aren’t true wolfs their like the maned wolf as in they have the name wolf yet aren’t related to them in face the common name for the painted wolf is the African wild dog (even then their in their own family group witch while still being canids aren’t related to dogs) Also I’m suprised you didn’t mention other animals that should’ve gotten toggleble features like the peacock,kangaroo,or moose etc since they all have gender specific differences in their design yet their stuck as either male or female versions of the animal Also one more thing I’m glad you talked about the other problem that has always been bugging me the others in game even do the laying back in water thing that sea otters do even tho it’s clearly a river otter
[This is my opinion btw, so no hate to anyone] In some parts I do agree that the animals would actually try look a bit different either more realistic. But when we learn new info maybe it could be possible to like, make sure it's going be the same info like the animal it has. In some points animal jam has become more creative, friendly and have more stuff we can do. I'm hoping it will stay as it is already but fix a few mistakes.
Maybe an could make a certain type of lion that lives maybe somewhere else, it could be called African lion or something. Aj then could make it so you can take of the main for it. Aj could also maybe just make a female lion without a main.
