I live on a limited budget in a town with few stores. I have to drive over an hour to buy good bird pellets. So, my toy part source is the dollar store. My birds, a parrotlet and 2 green cheek conures, love straws. I use straws, popsicle sticks, Dixie paper cups (which I use as a bell and upright as part of a foraging toy). I also have plain wood cubes I drill holes into along with the popsicle sticks and tongue depressors. I pass a needle through some of the straws, tie the string around some and tie the straws around the string as well. For play on my chest with my baby conure, I use a straw knotted at each end. She loves the knots and throwing it at me. And it's hilarious when she holds it in the middle and does the traditional conure head bob, as if to say " I must, I must, I must improve my bust".

A good tip for dealing with string if you don't have an appropriate needle is to just take some wire and diy one by folding and twirling it around the string loop. good for getting string through smaller beads too.

Great toys. I make mine too. The only thing I would suggest is making your loops smaller. They are kinda big and you have little birds. They might be able to get stuck in them. All in all love the ideas.

this was so fun to watch!! i'm definitely gonna try to make my boyfriend's cockatiel toys once i figure out what kinds of toys he likes. he's so picky with toys, so there's really no point in spending a lot of money on something he won't like, especially if i can make 5 toys he'll love for 20$!! super helpful video~ also i love you guys' hair so much :3

Were the wine corks ever actually used for wine bottles? I'm going on a family vacation and my aunt goes through a bottle of wine a day and was wondering if I could use corks from wine bottles? Is there a way to make them safe since I'd assume wine isn't safe for birds?

I'm getting my Quaker in 3-4 weeks when he's weaned and have been reading everything I can to be prepared but this is the first I heard not to use cotton rope for making toys. Also wondering about the treats as I was told not to give sunflower seeds or at most very few and it appears as though they are constantly being fed their seed treats, how do I know what is correct when there's all this contradicting information.? Is natural twine ok to use?

Hello. I'm thinking about getting a cockatiel or a conure for my first bird and have been watching a lot of videos and reading various websites. One site said that rope based toys were bad for birds because they potentially ingest the fibers and it leads to craw impaction. Have you heard of this? It seems that every toy has some type of material that could be considered fibrous. Would it be safe to assume that rope/fibrous material is safe for birds unless your specific bird is eating it? Thank you.
