Nikola Jokic's Finals run got him and the Nuggets a ring plus a Finals MVP. Through just 8 seasons he's become one of the best players we've ever seen. Is he on track to be an All-Time great?

As a staunch Jokic fan since 2017, I have to agree with you. People quickly look at blocked shots, rebounds and sometimes steals as the metrics to define a good defender, but his on-ball defense in the low post and his ability to disrupt passing lanes with his hands and feet (led the league in kicks by a country mile this season) are extremely underrated.
@thughunter627
@thughunter627 Год назад
thing is he got labeled as an awful defender earlier in his career and everyone just kept ignoring his improvements, I'm not saying he is a great defender but he is still above average now. Jok doesnt get highlight reel blocks but he does a lot of stuff that doesnt show up on statsheets usually with pass deflections, kicked balls(while its a violation its a good defensive play because it resets the offense) + he led big men in steals for what feels like a few seasons now. Even draymond said he improved vastly as a defender over the last few seasons.

Honestly, the biggest thing standing between Jokic and a top-5 all time career is himself. We all saw how little winning the title meant to him, how he talks about his career as just a job. My point is that he doesn’t seem very passionate about being the best ever or anything close to it. There’s a solid chance he sticks around to get his next contract, and then retires a little early to go pursue things that he’s more passionate about (his family, his horses, his homeland, etc.). There’s a real chance this guy retires by 33-35 and leaves a few years on the table. Who knows, he could win four straight titles, retire early, and still have that top-5 career anyway. Can’t really bet against him at all right now.
@sheyarjames4904

You honestly think he doesn’t work his ass off and have insane discipline and just happened to become back to back mvp and finals mvp? Being humble and downplaying your own achievements is of his good character, but it doesn’t mean that those achievements are actually meaningless to him. Not an illogical place to rank Jokic at the moment, he’s had a great career so far. Side note: Given how much you tend to value playoff performances, I’m surprised that he who should not be named (ergo: Karl Malone) is 23rd. One of the bigger criticisms he tends to receive is that he underperformed in the playoffs (and his per game stats look similar but on worse efficiency).

This discussion is legit but I must say as a Curry fan I'm kinda salty. It took Jokic one run (a very good one for sure) for a lot of people to have discussions about the top 10, while after 4 rings, several MVPs and a lot of historic moments a lot of people still push back on the idea of Curry being in or near the top 10.
@kode-man23
@kode-man23 Год назад
That’s what I thought too. It was the same with Giannis after he won. People seem to have a problem with guards other than Jordan being in the top 10 haha. Just look at Curry’s resume, if he’s not top 10, he’s 11th.

Jokic's floor is Top 15 All Time and his ceiling is Top 10. He is only 28 years old and he has at least 5 to 6 more years of elite prime where he could average 25/12/9 pts/rebs/ast, can still win 1 mvp and at least 2 to 3 titles especially if the nuggets can maintain its core.

@TrePrince
@TrePrince Год назад
@dewman7477 You can't even compare Kareem to Jokic or Embiid, for that matter. That's not even fair it was a different time. They had different competition. You're talking about accolades when that doesn't matter. Also, if they both stay healthy, their accolades will outweigh theirs besides rings. Neither one will win more than 3 or 4 rings tops if that with how loaded the nba is now. Also, Luka is way better than Jordan now and Jokic is far more skilled than Kareem and has a higher IQ. Luka has a higher IQ than LeBron. You bring up Jordan when LeBron is far better and more dominant
@dewman7477
@dewman7477 Год назад
@@TrePrince you’re just blasphemous omg 😆 I can’t take you seriously when you just called luka better than MJ and Jokic being better than Kareem. Have you heard of defence? Have you heard of consistency and longevity those guys have? That matter a lot too. LeBron is close to MJ but he’s not goat over MJ because he has less peak, less dominance and less accolades like mvps and finals mvps and MJ never choked like LeBron 2011 finals either. Give it up you’re just spewing blasphemous takes for luka and Jokic over MJ and Kareem it’s just disrespectful.
@TrePrince
@TrePrince Год назад
@dewman7477 again I said they "will end up being known as better" in thr yrs to come health permitting but Better doesn't mean accolades I'm talking about if u took all of their skills and weighted each one by how important they are / rare they are and aggregated them Jokic and Luka score is higher than anybody from other ages. I also accounted for the fact that if they were playing now, they would've trained differently. I'm sure Kareem and Jordan would've worked on their 3 point shot more in this age, for example, and maybe Jordan would've shot like 38 % from 3 and Kareem maybe even higher. It's about skill and the other intangibles. Not rings, that's crazy, Luka may never win a ring in Dallas for example. That doesn't disqualify him from being the greatest. It's not even fair to compare different era's even, that's apples to oranges. Players are much faster, stronger, and smarter as far as the game goes. You may be suffering from nostalgia, maybe u think Tupac , Biggie and Nas are the best rappers ever also 😂😂😂

Late to the discussion so maybe this take will be only for RB. Appreciate the take overall but some of the guys you have ranked ahead of him are sort of silly. Does any intelligent hoops fan think Dirk was a better player than Jokic? I can't imagine how you could you could even make that argument. Dirk was just a scorer plain and simple. That's it. One of the greatest ever for sure. Jokic is already a far better rebounder, exponentially better passer, far higher hoops IQ, actually controls games being a point center something that Dirk never did, a more impactful defender and frankly clearly a better offensive player and force. Dirk doesn't even belong in the conversation with Jokic.

Once he wins the second and actually faces some quality teams then we can talk until then he’s on the outside looking in. Plus he’s a euro player so he’ll always be considered a lesser player to a lot of people. There are significant numbers of people that to test the European style a basketball, the same way that NHL fans hate euro hockey.
