I think if the modern media landscape had been around in the early 2000s then Kevin Garnett would probably have had at least a threepeat MVP campaigns. In today's NBA discourse, you can earn an MVP, taking one of the worst rosters in the league to the playoffs while putting up great stats, Kevin Garnett did that for 5 years in a row.

I think Rusty's take on Gobert here is absolutely shocking! Look, while it's true that Shaq himself can be petty and insufferable at times, and has some bad takes, his take on Rudy Gobert is actually 1000% spot on. Gobert might be the most overrated player in all of the NBA. Forget his nearly non existent offensive production, his defense is supremely overrated as well! Which is supposedly his specialty. Anyone who defends this guy getting a 200+ million contract is out of their minds. Period. End of story. Gobert has now won FOUR DPOY awards, for God knows what reason. Maybe he's having butt orgies with Adam Silver or something because there's no rational explanation for this BUM to get even ONE DPOY let alone 4 which is the same as guys like Ben Wallace! And more than guys like Jordan or Dennis Rodman and so on and so forth. I've watched this guy get absolutely TORCHED on too many occasions. Every time the Jazz made the playoffs, and the competition ramped up...This guy got shrunk in the moment, got torched, and was a near non factor. Fast forward to today and he's getting absolutely clowned by Jokic in the 2024 playoffs. "Best defender" in the league but Jokic is doing whatever he wants whenever he wants to this fraud. He's a complete non factor, and the Wolves actually look WORSE on defense with Gobert than they did when he was out for game 2 and they put in the best defensive performance of these playoffs...Fraudbert comes back and suddenly they capitulate and Jokic and others start doing what they want when they want. I can't recall any other DPOY players or even contenders like getting annihilated as constantly as Gobert does. Maybe Tim Duncan and David Robinson when they got absolutely destroyed by Shaq in the 2001 playoffs if memory serves me right. But that was PRIME Shaq at the absolute peak of his powers simply physically manhandling everyone. They never got torched by others though. Unlike Gobert. Defenders like Hakeem, Ben Wallace, Duncan, Garnett...Kobe, Rodman, Jordan, Pippen, Bruce Bowen, Ron Artest...Joakim Noah.....These guys jumped off your screen and you weren't left questioning what makes them great defenders. It was plain and obvious to see. Not the case with Gobert. You watch this guy and you're left wondering how anyone thinks he's a great defender. Let alone a DPOY level defender. Let alone FOUR DPOY awards level defender. This guy has managed to finesse the NBA and it's owners and voters unlike anything I have ever seen in my lifetime and I've watched the NBA since the 1990s. People like to make cases about this or that player being overrated...But for me Rudy Gobert takes that cake and takes it EASILY. He's just your average "decent" defender, with a nearly non existent offensive to boot....Yet he's somehow thought of as an elite NBA player and has one of the fattest contracts, managed to have a whole farm traded for him, AND has stolen numerous undeserved awards. From that standpoint you have to tip your hat to the guy. Talk about maximizing your value!
