Without Sean Gelael dad, many drivers won't have a shot at f2 or get into F1 like De Vries or Giovinazzi. Yeah Sean Gelael was taking up a seat in f2 but he helped others to get seats as well so you can't really hate the guy imo.
@@Roguescienceguy he's the silver driver in that car and doing a decent job at it too in wec at least. in asian le mans series he was a bit crashy but he seems to have improved since
@@Roguescienceguy he once literally carried the team and drove for like, 2 full hours and finish won them the race. And that's without stoffel, only him and Tom.
I met Sean at the Dubai Autodrome endurance race along with Stoffel, he was really nice and took the time to sign an envelope. Say what you will about the guy but he is hella nice in person :D
@@JohnWarren Yeah he was super cool. I wanted to ask him how it felt to be the most feared man in motorsport, but he had to go for an engineering debrief since I think ether Tom or Stoffel were in the car at the time and he had to go in.
The reason Sean Gelael left F2 wasn't actually his decision, it was his father's decision since he didn't enjoy spending £2,000,000 a year for 17th in the championship (who blames him). As you saw for the tiny screenshot in the video where I waffled about Sean for only a few paragraphs (don't ask why he's my favourite driver), whilst it does help having decent teammates, Gelael himself has shown strong pace in Endurance cars, so I reckon that's where he's going to stay (at least I hope he does so his Indonesian sponsor can continue illegaly streaming WEC for free),and if he does we get to see the funi cursed KFC car for a while. He's also a really really nice guy in himself, and during his F2 stint he pretty much adopted the position of "the guy at the back of the class who isn't that smart but everyone's cool with". Hopefully he can build an even better reputation to other fans in WEC, Good video John!
Wait, the WEC stream that was sponsored by Gelael in RU-vid are illegal? Isn't it listed as official broadcast? Cuz I see it in WEC official IG page and also their official website
That won’t be the Gelael one. You’re probably in a country where it’s available for free. Gelael’s sponsor KUY Entertainment streamed round 1 on RU-vid for free, they used the Eurosport stream but covered the Eurosport logo with Gelael’s sponsors
Sean Geleal has just finished P2 in Le mans , at this time he sits P1 in the LMP2 class standings of WEC. He is establishing himself in the endurance scene, good for him!
Seeing how michael fassbender perform in european le mans series, i can tell sean isn't carried by his teammates. Fassbender isn't bad, i mean he is an actor, his progress is good
Unlike other paid drivers I don't really mind Galael cause he actually helps along other drivers in their Careers and one average driver on the grid is more than okay if they're dragging an amazing driver with them too
Definitely! I personally really like his helmet designs, as well - like, he has the confidence to drive around with a KFC bargain bucket on his head lmao
They also pay for broadcasting right (or something, i dunno what it's called) broadcasting this season's WEC to one of Indonesia's youtube channel for free, and have their own commentators trying to explain to Indonesians what WEC is
Proving again that single seater's aren't for everyone and that drivers can have great success in one series, but disappoint in others (like Alonso at indycar)
Fernando was royally shafted in his latest attempt and spent half the race in the lead in the previous so I wouldn't say dissapoint. Especially knowing it were basically one-offs
i dont think alonso even did bad in indycar. and even in series that are vastly different from f1 such as imsa, wec and dakar he did very good. winning wec championship and le man and Daytona and rookie of the year in dakar.
As someone from the South East Asia region, I would say eventually maybe he will lead an all Indonesia or an all SEA team in endurance racing, can be either racing or leading the team. Which is good considering his experience and the resources he has.
So many failed attempts to get to F1 have lead to success in endurance racing. F2 requires you to be on the edge of adhesion for the whole race. Endurance racing requires far more patience, and puts an emphasis on looking after the car, and being a little slower can be an advantage.
it feels funny to see two different side of how people see gelael. As an indonesian , i can see many people love him because of how cool he is for being in F2. and in the other hand as an avarage racing world fans , many people know him for being a meme on the community not complaining tho, you guys are very wholesome
It's more like a hobby so I don't have to do it if I don't want to... No, but seriously, I absolutely agree with you. Anyone who's capable to operate within the rules of racing are in their right to do it as long as they enjoy it.
That would be the case. Not everyone is good at all types of sport, after all. One can do well in open wheel but that doesn't mean they could do well in stock car, for example.
I've always thought that if he decides to leave f2 and go to endurance he would be quiet good, and now he seems to be doing that, he's a great guy and only hope he does well, but not in f1 he shouldn't be near there, also he and his father and funded a lot of drivers whcih is great
Maybe he's just one of many "Yannick Dalmas"-type of racing driver. Sucks at F1 or touring cars, but is brilliant at endurance racing. Keep in mind that nobody can be great in any discipline. And don't forget, that many ex-f1-drivers failed at endurance... If you've seen the race in Portimao, you've seen that Galeal did a very good job there. I can see a good future in WEC for him.
For sure! I mean, Fernando Alonso won 2 WDC’s but has really struggled with Indycar, despite them being relatively similar formulas on the surface of it. Then we have Romain Grosjean, who seemed to be on the way out in F1 but is right on the pace in Indy. Always surprising to me that racing talent isn’t just a binary thing, and that it’s fluid between even the most similar of classes!
it kinds of weird for me seeing haryanto almost made it into f1 career, get into sportscar for a while, and not being very successful, yet there is gelael, not being successful in f2, switches into sportscar, and instead being successful..
Yeah, it’s mad to think that Haryanto is still considered a better driver as well, despite not having nearly as much success overall. Of course there are better drivers than Gelael as well, but he seems like a solid option and has made a lot of others’ careers possible as well.
@johnwarren You do know that Rio Haryanto did manage to win in F2 right? He won a couple of times and 2nd and 3rd as well. He finished 4th overall in 2015 F2 standings (which was better than nikita mazepin's) all that with a mediocre team like Campos Racing. Gelael on the other hand has tasted a seat in the championship team like prema, and by what your video is saying, we know how that goes. Haryanto nailed an F1 seat with a worst team on the grid cause of the 4th place thing, and no money or big sponsor. He had to race with a pressure to pay off his debts to manor, and the only sponsor he has, not willing to pay more cause of some state regulations bullshit. So, put respect on Rio Haryanto's name. He is the first Indonesian F1 driver, whether we like it or not. And, yes, by all means and all that stats i've written above, I do think Haryanto is better than Gelael (in Formula Cars).
Geleal is in that position speed wise where he is a good silver driver but if the fia ever makes him gold i dont see him doing well anymore. Seeing as he is a pay driver bringing the money to the program he should stay silver imo. I never really hated Geleal. yeah he's a bit slow mostly but you cant deny his sponsorship helped others achieve what he couldnt. he is the reason giovinazzi got up the motorsports ladder and i'll never forget the contributions he's made for other talents on the grid. I look forward to seeing him for a long time in endurance racing
@@Stingraeee agree and also there an interest to held an FE grandprix on indonesia, jakarta imagine sean race there with all fans behind him but then again.... it cancel, they fuck it up as always 😂
Well, after the conclusion of his 2022 season, sharing a WRT with Rast and Frijns, Sean has replicated his solid form from last year: 4 podium finishes (including 3 wins at Spa, Fuji and Bahrain) 2nd in championship overall for second year running. However, they also had a DNF at Le Man's, not to mention a 12th place at Monza due to a technic issue. If not for those results they could have fought for the LMP2 championship till the end (by the last round the points deficit to the winning Jota LMP2 was too big to make up). I'm impressed though. Putting Gelael in a Hypercar seat might actually not be too far fetched as it sounds (especially if he stays put with WRT for next year, given their recent involvement with the BMW LMdh project)
If he wants to return to Open Wheeler racing, F2 is probably a long shot, however I think the Super Formula series in Japan could be an idea, though Super Formula drivers are very impressive even better than some F2 and F1 drivers, so…….
@@Robalexe He still qualified this year - the age limit IIRC is 27 *before* start of year (Or qualification limit of 5 consecutive seasons in F2, whichever came first)
@@MrBlazemaster525 But Gelael was 24 at the beginning of this year. And the actual Formula 2 was only conceived in 2017. Nissany or respectively Boschung would've been left out by now too if that was how it worked. Gelael could've actually stayed in F2 this year, that was his original plan, but his father didn't want to pay big money just to see him again in 15th, so he decided to better put him in endurance racing (which was a great choice, he's actually good there). He could've stayed in F2 but chose not to.
@@Kismaci0913 mazepin was good in f2 wtf do you mean and gelael is way better than deledda in f2,did you watch the freakin race or you just see it in the toxic social media?
@@rawrzqi If Gelael is better than Deledda in F2 i'm a head out. I mean in F1 Charles Leclerc is so much better than Michael Schumacher. and Mazepin is bad as the WhatsApp drip car on steroids. Deledda > Gelael
