Where is the Rolex brand going?

We recently discussed Rolex' purchase of Bucherer and why it was necessary to try and regain some control over the insane secondary market. Continuing that theme, we ask where the Rolex brand is going whether it might be heading for disaster? Rolex surely know they have problems but can they right the ship?

Was at the AD recently. Lots of Rolex in the case for sale. Not only Datejusts but Day-Dates some with diamond bezels. No Daytonas or Subs in the counter but I overheard the sales rep tell a customer that he would get him a Batman in a reasonable time frame. Things are changing.

This is good news for all the reasons you mentioned. The ADs are still playing their greedy games with empty showcases yet the grey market is over stocked. Hopefully it will be a buyers' market soon.

Within the watch market in general, it is a good time to buy.

@@Bassingtons Mr. B, what do you think about the prices for the Pepsi on jubilee and the Batman? The Pepsi ranges from $18-20,000 on the grey market in the US. Then Batman ranges from $16-18,000. I think their prices may fall further to 2019 price levels, albeit very slowly. What is your opinion?
@Bassingtons

@@dannysimenauer5745 In general I would never pay over list for a watch that was still production, instead I would look at alternatives, the Tudor GMT being a good example.
@dannysimenauer5745
@dannysimenauer5745 9 месяцев назад
@@Bassingtons Thanks for sharing your advice on these two GMTs. One last question, I am waiting for the Pepsi on jubilee to fall further, but the rumors are getting louder about the Pepsi being discontinued because Rolex can't make the red/blue bezel in enough quantity. Does this change your answer since the cerachrome bezel on the Pepsi would be discontinued?
@Bassingtons
@Bassingtons 9 месяцев назад
@@dannysimenauer5745 No it does not! The rumours were rife 18 months ago that Rolex were going to discontinue the Air King and needles to say it never happened. I still would look at other GMT's, produced by different brands.

@Bassingtons I love hoe Omega has played it so well over the last few years. How it hit rolex with affordable and avaliable options that have worked so well.

Recent price rises on top of prices rises tells me that Rolex still expect high demand for new watches but watch prices on the grey market are dropping. It feels like the beginning of a return to the way things were before it all went crazy. It remains to be seen if Rolex are correct in their confidence in new watch sales but, following the events of the last few years, I have little regard for the existing AD's, much like the people you mention in your piece.

Great points and very accurate analysis. I’m excited for these grey market dealers to be out of the picture they’re the reason Rolex was unavailable and controlling second hand market price. Hope the brand takes future control of their watches so they don’t get in the hands of scumbags again. I personally haven’t been fed up with brand and received a new Datejust 41 after 8 weeks of waiting last month. Prior to that I ordered an Explorer 2 42 Polar and took approximately one year. They’re definitely worth the wait, phenomenal watches.

Not surprising in todays Economy....Back during the bull run they were going for ASTRONOMICAL amounts, we had no problem selling 5 or 6 hundred tickets for a hulk or pepsi....but with the cost of living now alot of the grey market dealers are stuck holding the bag! Maybe we will have another bull run soon though. Who knows! Great video btw!

Thanks for your vlog INTERESTING As for the gray dealers to greedy have been for years watches at three times the normal price we aren’t interested any more. Paul Thorpe running around saying he isn’t dealing and advertising watches he doesn’t want any more and blogging he’s bike it’s over. As for the youngsters they aren’t interested in Rolex , omega, etc it’s R/M and the graphite watches it’s there time let them have there style. As for watch finder they used to be good for a deal but the last 5 /6 years to big victims of there own success so don’t worry about the flippers buy what you like and have it on your wrist.

Isn't going to Tudor just like surrendering to Rolex? That's what they want you to do is go to their good enough for the masses brand.

Then buy other watch brands, like Omega or Cartier which I have mentioned. We all know Rolex owns Tudor and the equivalent steel Tudor is £5-6K less than the list price of a Rolex and they are available from the AD's!

People who are actually very wealthy rather than pretending to be have moved on and they don’t have time to play childish AD game’s. I wouldn’t touch Tudor the quality is dreadful and how many watches can you knock out that look like a old Rolex or a old Tudor that looks like a old Rolex 🤦🏻‍♂️
