If you are a fan of movies, you might have heard about or even seen Sling Blade, a 1996 movie written, directed and starred in by Billy Bob Thornton. This movie follows the story of Karl, a simple minded man who is released from an asylum for a violent crime. @@BunnyPlaysHere so true. It’s like you go to sleep and wake up and it’s 10 or so yrs later. Lol. But i love history and vintage. Antique etc. I will be 53 Sunday and things have change tremendously sense I was born. It amazes me how things have changed.

I grew up in Benton and it has changed alot! I believe the football stadium you were trying to find is beside the UALR Benton building. That was Benton's old football stadium back then. We never actually had a field on on the campus in my time. A couple of other places that you could have shown is the house in the movie and the lawn mower repair shop he was working at. Also the mental hospital and bridge he walked on are near the town Haskell which is 5 minutes down i30 from Benton. The River St bridge is a historical monument of Saline County now and has a picnic area there next to the river. If you would like a few more pointers I could help. Thanks for the awesome work. It was such a great movie, definitely one of my all time favorites not only because it was filmed in my home town but the movie in it's entirety is awesome.

I was planning on going to the bridge however I wanted to be able to drone it and it was a bit windy by the time we managed to get to that point in the video sadly.... I always try to work with the time I have and weather to share the most I can... but the day quickly gets away from you when exploring a new community you are unfamiliar with .... than you sooo much for sharing your location ideas!!!!

I have several sites I constantly am referencing for travel ideas and also for things like this. I do spend a lot of time researching and printing in advance when it comes to things like this, but still when I go in I have to get there on the ground and figure out roads.

I had such a fun time. The best part of finding these locations is exploring the little communities they are in. We saw some really fun things in Benton that otherwise we would have missed entirely.

Welcome to my hometown 💖 The building with the skinny windows was actually the First Baptist Church in downtown 😊 The field was C.W. Lewis Stadium 😊 I hope you enjoyed your adventure 💖

I'm from Benton and was friends with Gary's daughter in high school. My best friend and I used to go to Gary's daily after school and eat and play the arcade game inside. Back then it was called Whopper Burger.

Interesting subject and your video was very well done. I remember the movie very well. I've been to Little Rock and Hot Springs and what a beautiful part of our country. Arkansas is on my list of places to return to. If you make it to New Orleans you would have a field day! Wikipedia says there are 200 pages of films shot in NOLA. Jo

I have been to NOLA when they were actually filming some things for American Horror Story, they were in the street filming scenes for their intro and B Roll it was cool to see them work!!! I wouldn't even know where to start with all the others however, sooo many!!!

Cool info! I love Sling-Blade. You know, I would almost swear the courthouse and church seen at 4:29 was also featured in the 1973 Burt Reynolds film “White Lighning”. In fact, I’d wager that there was at least one scene shot in the EXACT spot you’re standing.

You missed the bridge from the beginning of the movie. I've been there and it has been preserved along with the pond area from several scenes in the movie. Both are in the same place. Look up Slingblade bridge.

A lot can change in 25 years. That diner still pretty much looked the same though. I actually had the original short film this movie stems from on DVD, but it was left on the floor and got stepped on.

oh noooooo... that is terrible!! The diner does look very similar I would have to agree.. it was cool to stop in there and get some ice cream and see the memorabilia.. I will say though I wish I hadn't gone during the lunch rush would have made it better

The house that was used when Carl killed Doyle belonged to my grandmother. It’s on route 2 just south of social hill cemetery. The house is pretty much falling down now.

@BunnyPlaysHere - Thanks for the video, but…you have the lawnmower shop location wrong. I know this, because I had it wrong as well. The location of the shop was an old propane dealership on Military Road. Today, Malvern National Bank sits on the spot where both the lawnmower shop and the “Frosty Cream” dairy bar were in the movie. Ferguson’s furniture store was visible over Billy Bob Thornton’s shoulder when he ordered French fried taters. I know this because I lost a Facebook argument over the location of the lawnmower shop😂 I was forced to investigate the location to support my claim, and I discovered that I was wrong 😬
