I am a South Korean Christian. South Korea is the only country in East Asia, and also the largest, that incorporates Christian values into its societal structure on a large scale. There are so many churches here. Thank you for your video! It explains the exact reasons why there is a huge gap in differences across the Korean peninsula.

As a Korean Christian, I am proud of our heritage and culture. Ironically, centuries of foreign invasion and internal civil war made our nation one of the toughest and zealous nation in the world. Many people say that Christianity in Korea is a mist that would demise within but, I think that the age we live in is a testimony of our faith. "We live by faith, not by sight" So, I plead to anyone who had watched this video, please pray for South Korea so that we can be used as a hub of Lord's gospel. That we may bring about the flames of the holy spirit to China, Japan, Taiwan, Russia and eventually to North Korea. I hope in God's good time Korea would be a nation united in one God, one nation and one religion

I find it a bit sad that there isn't much good coverage about Christianity in Indonesia despite us being a quite active Christian community all while being within the country with the largest Muslim population in the world. The production values are excellent and this is an amazing story. Consider this. South Korea has around 20 million Christians and the majority of them are practicing Christians who attend church every Sunday. The UK has around 40 million nominal/cultural Christians and only about one or two million practice the faith and attend church. By any metric, South Korea is a far more Christian country than present day UK and many other western nations.

No matter what sufferings happen on this earth, the word of the Lord will continue to go out and the Spirit will reach the hearts of people all over this world.

I’m a Korean American adoptee & l had the chance to live & work in South Korea 2014-2016. I attended several churches as l worked in 3 different cities l was able to attend English services. Anyway, l heard a lot of “Korean churches last for hours & Koreans pray for hours. ❤️💓💕🙏🏽

Radical please do a full in depth serious on India after this( You did one but it was very vague and does not really tell the story of Christians in India fully and also how we can evangelise the Indian people). It will also help evangelise a lot more people and bring them to Christ if you were to inspire and inform Indians who would go on to become preachers of the one true god Jesus Christ of Nazareth ☦️

I literally am finishing up a trip in Korea where the Lord was opening my eyes to my own family's history, ancestry, and the country's history spiritually and generally, so coming across this video was so timely. We were staying literally right next to the Yeouido Plaza, and I just recently heard from a relative that my grandfather apparently was a part of one of the main newspapers who documented it! Hi there I'm just one of the Korean college students. My country, South Korea had sent many missionaries. If regard of the size of the populations between SKorea and US, we might send missionaries more than US. (In Korea, we don't consider office missionaries as missionaries. We also count married couple missionaries as one person(no two missionaries). Quite different counting method.) Nowadays, Korean churches secularized. But I've believed that God will use this Korean people (both North and South) to pray for all nations and send us as missionaries AGAIN. And I've prayed for it to be like this. I started evangelize and preach Gospel publicly recently in many locations after God said to do these. I've been Tokyo, Fukuoka(japan), Taiwan. And also some places in my country. (markets, parks, univ campus, etc.) If you come east Asia countries, you may find that many countries has been barely accepted Gospel and Jesus except SKorea. There is no country where (protestant) crosses are everywhere in (at least) east Asia except SKorea. Pray for our nation to be devoted to the Load AGAIN. And pray for all nations. Evangelize. Always pray from opening your eyes to closing. Obey what God has asked you. Don't say I can't b.c. I don't have enough money, time, confidence. Don't excuse. Pour your money, time, everything to build churches, help missionaries, and other God's work. Jesus will come soon. Let's prepare the way of Lord. God bless you

As a foreigner who looks into what happens on other countries, let me just say, i believe the success that Korea is experiencing right now is thanks to the blessings of God. The same thing happened to the US 200 years ago, unfortunately, it is going back to worldly values and THAT is why the US is becoming irrelevant.

The video fails to mention the presence of Catholics in Korea. In Korea, Catholics styled Christianity as '서학' (meaning Western studies), which caused many Confucian scholars, the country's central bureaucrats, to mistakenly perceive it as a new way of thinking and studying. Consequently, numerous high-ranking officials began studying the Bible, and some even converted to Christianity. King Jeongjo of Joseon had a trusted advisor named YagYong Jeong, whose family were Christians. There is speculation that Jeong himself may have been a Christian. The first *official* Bible in Korea was brought by Crown Prince SoHyun (who did not live long enough to be crowned a king), and he had personal connections to Johann Adam Schall von Bell (a Catholic Missionary) back in 1645. It was, therefore, the Catholics who first introduced Christianity to Korea.

I studied at Yonsei, and I had no idea about that hospital! I can’t wait to go back!

@Radical Loved this! Was thinking that it could be great to incorporate Robert Jermaine Thomas and the 7000(from memory not sure on number) Jesuit priests killed prior? Love Roberts story, how his early death as a missionary seemed to be pointless and meaningless at the time. Yet the story of this Welsh God used to bring the gospel in to the very group that killed him in time. For me this story came full circle in an increasingly profound way as I visited a (new) beautiful chapel in Wales UK (located at union school of theology Bridgend, Wales) to listen to John Lennox...only to later see the name of the building was named after Thomas...now I had just watched the torch lighters(recommend!) episode on Robert Jermaine Thomas, and couldn't believe it, until checking it, that it was the Korean church that had built this very building (in Wales!) I seriously cried realising this!

South koreans having such a gigantic rival is beautiful, we need to be careful of of chalatans, sheep in wolf skin, those that dont care about us or our souls

North Korea and South Korea are brothers, similarly Cain and Abel are brothers.

At same time, S.Korea is the largest Buddhist country in East Asia (China is fake Buddhist) as well as being most Confucianist in East Asian as well. Christianity, Buddhism, Confucianism as well as local folk Shamanism and bit of Taoism as well as some aspect of Shintoism, all co-exists in South Korea. Korea once the Buddhist center to spread Buddhism to Japan as well.

This is excellent but you skipped a big chunk of the Catholic history.... ) Catholicism (and Christianity in general) in Korea more generally began in 1784 when Yi Seung-hun was baptized while in China under the Christian name of Peter. He later returned to Korea carrying religious texts, and baptized many fellow countrymen. The Church in Korea continued to grow without formal missionary priests. During the 19th century, the Catholic Church was targeted by the government of the Joseon Dynasty chiefly for the religion's opposition to ancestral "worship", which the Church perceived to be a form of idolatry, but which the State prescribed as a cornerstone of Korean culture. There were 5 main sets of persecutions against Christians in nineteenth-century Korea; Catholic Persecution of 1791 Catholic Persecution of 1801 Catholic Persecution of 1839 Catholic Persecution of 1846 Catholic Persecution of 1866 Between 8,000-10,000 Korean Christians were killed during this period. In May 1984, 103 Catholics were canonised en masse, including the first Korean Catholic priest, Andrew Kim Taegon, who was executed by sword in 1846. (info from Wikipedia)

It's a nice story but the Korean peninsula has had Christianity since the Silk Road. The Gospels were translated from Old Syriac by the traders. Tatian's "Teaching of the Apostles" was one of the translated. Most of the Korean Christians were in what is now North Korea; aslo, Kim Il Sung grew up Protestant; his grandfather was a minister. How the communists north happened, it starts with a V and ends with an N. Hiroshima and Nagasaki was where most of the Christians lived in Japan. The decision was made in the California redwoods not that far north of San Francisco.

This kind of testimony/stories makes people focus more only Jesus as Healer. I have heard more only about healing in this video. Too bad I have met so many "Christians" who do not know what the gospel is. Please please be wiser and knowledgeable in your videos.

I hoped you explain about the decades of sectarian conflicts that are still visible among South Korea's Presbytarian churches. Evangelical Christianity is already dead in South Korea in the strictest sense.

Easily understandable though, but that this video treats as there is nothing happened whatsoever from 1592 to 1882 regarding the development of Christian faith in Korea, is something rightfully viewed as laughable. Wasn't that first missionary came to Korea in 16rh century a Roman Catholic ? It's misleading to disregard all those events of the transmission of Christianity (of whichever type) among ruling class people in Korea, and the history of Korea in 19th century is by itself in-explainable at all when one is omtting the persecution story of the Catholics. The Christianity, as a relgion, is built on the blood of martyrs.

Like the United States (Mayflower Compact), South Korea, too, had deep ties to Christianity at its birth. The first amendment of the provisional charter of S Korea's provisional government stated that "South Korea was founded according to God's will." (하나님 is the explicit name for the God of the Bible).
