Nice video my friend! all I can say is unfortunately parts are not made with the same quality they used to be. I've worked in the tire business 25 years and I've seen heat do crazy things to rubber. Okay in conclusion I hadn't finished the video when I commented it's all good at least you figured it out that stuff happens to me all the time LOL
quality is def an issue these days. that seal is a story of its own how it ended up the way it did. i take the blame on it though, LOL thanks for watching man
yeah they are def re useable. ive done it a few times on small blocks, but never used one on a big block. one issue was the cheap timing cover is not made quite right, its too tight on the pan. piches it a little too much.
I've used a shitload of them 1 piece oil pan gaskets, all I use anymore on Chevy engines. One thing I've learned is you better put a thin bead of ultra black or grey or Right Stuff long the timing cover side and the oil pan side, also the rear main cap and the pan side also. The side rails don't need nothing. Do it like that and I guarantee it won't leak. Also ultra copper should only be used on header gaskets and nothing else. Also engine gotta be clean and oil free anywhere the gasket touches when installing. Silicone don't stick to oil worth a damn. Those 1 piece gaskets will hold their shit forever if installed right. I have a few I've used 3 or 4 times on different engines.
i agree, the problem with the first one was the cheap harbor freight silicone he used, it never dried, and the cheap aluminum timing chain cover he had to have, is not made like it should be. its too tight to the oil pan, and it caused the end seal to slip out. the gasket was removed to be reused, but he couldnt get the silicone that never dried cleaned off of it. he had a fit and ripped it to pieces right before it went in the trash. if you have ever put together an engine with 2 people butting heads on how to do things, thats what happened here....
at least i hope not, there is a reason why it did happen. it just took me awhile to remember why. im not going to blame anyone but myself, it should have been double checked.
