Thanks Alex ! The past couple years in spring and early summer I've been looking for and netting little and baby fish from around my area in Massachusetts . I even got my nephew into it and fishing is one of his favorite things now ! Before fishing and netting for little fish he wouldn't think about going into merkey water ! 😱🤣

Well anyway, we were targeting what we thought were minnow species and found out about two local wild fish I was not expecting ! The first one was 4 or 5 years ago and we netted them . They were Sand Gobbies ! I only knew a little about this species then and I was amazed I found wild type Gobbies in my area ! Amazing fish, so cool to watch how they move around and eat ! Three years ago I was winter fishing ❄️ no ice at the time, although I love to ice fish , I saw a massive group of minnows along the shoure line so decided to net a bunch ! When I saw them in my hand , they didn't look like regular minnows, they looked like baby snake heads ! I did some quick research because I knew they definitely couldn't be snake heads . Northeastern Striped Killie Fish is what they are ! I was thrilled to find out about a native Killie Fish species in my area ! I had about two dozen in a twenty gallon tank ! At first they were really vishes and would rip the faces off of full grown Guppies in a single strike ! They got over the Guppy thing quickly and now only eat the Fry . This is a good thing for me and them because the Guppies in with them are cull Guppies I don't want breading ! Win win ! They also love flake food . They haven't bread but extremely hardy and resilient species of Killie Fish that love color water ! If you want to see them , I made a video of them ! Some have a blue-ish purple display when showing ! I captured this in the video !

Cool sleuthing and mapping Alex! It continues to be exciting all the discoveries yet to be made. I have reticulated Hillstream loaches(3) in my 20 L tank. Prob the most unusual species I have. Others (in this tank and my other tanks) are new to me getting back into this hobby, but very common. What a vast array of species available now compared to past years. It’s amazing! I can imagine how stir crazy this healing process must be for you. Take care, heal up and keep on researching and aquarium watching/care for your sanity. 😊☮❤🐠🦐🪴

Great video Alex, a little off topic but I see a lot of videos on beginner aquarium plants all over RU-vid but I hardly see any for intermediate plants. Like for someone who has found success with the easy plants and wants to advance more into some harder to grow and some that are a little more challenging. I recently went out of my comfort zone and started a high tech nano tank with co2 and I was looking into getting some more colorful and challenging plants but haven’t really found a lot of info.

The timing of this video... I just got an order from China: Pseudogastromyzon changtingensis, P. laticeps, P. myersi, Rhinogobius sp. 'high fin yellow cheek', R. sp. 'new red lipped', R. wuyiensis, Rhodeus ocellatus, and R. shitaiensis 'yellow', and some golden panda loaches too. They look awesome!

I was in Venice FL for Christmas and I started browsing for spots for the evergladei or gulf coast pygmy sunfish, never really found a spot but I did catch your video Alex. I laughed pretty hard at, "look, this is how you catch wild fish when you've got a doctorate" ..to that effect, Dr. Mazeroll was on his 15 min break lol. How are the pygmy sunfish btw?

Man I love your content and you are crazy knowledgeable. No disrespect intended but I liked the production quality of this video because it has less of your face in it! My only critique is to really load up and invest in production right now, you’re blowing up it will be worth it. A small time production team, even if it’s just family and friends would take your videos to the next level. Also start a podcast (you may always have one I haven’t checked) this way those of us who want long form and to look at your ugly mug can go that direction haha! Anyways best of luck dude I’m a fan regardless thanks for all the info and keep it coming!

@fishtory, do you think there is any chance of possibly finding something new or interesting in north America? And if so what region
@Fishtory
@Fishtory 4 месяца назад
100%. All through central America and Mexico....there is a lot unknown still...mountain streams and lakes. Then there are cave fish trapped for thousands of years... places like Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama, Texas and Louisiana all have high potential for species of killifish or pupfish... cave species, and small species like suckerfish and algae eating species that fishermen just rarely snag on a line

Hmmm, this one was a little unsettling for me Alex, I'm not a fan of wild collecting, especially from remote pristine waters. I know you aren't necessarily advocating this but...
@Fishtory
@Fishtory 4 месяца назад
The big issue is that unless we can demonstrate there are species that need protection in an area, it will simply be exploited and destroyed in time. By documenting, new and especially endemic species, we can then work to preserve or at least archive DNA of these incredible organisms
