Before I started networking and discovering the good people of the turtle world, I purchased a couple diamondback hatchling from a very crooked person you mentioned in your video. I had very similar answers when I asked questions.
People forget that in order to start often times breeders have to get wild caught based on availability and genetic variation. I’m glad that even though some of yours outside are wild caught you are breeding and selling babies at a reasonable price which makes CB a lot more available in the hobby. It would be great if cb DBTs became as readily available in the hobby as something like a cooter because it would relieve some stress from wild populations. If they are readily available then there is less incentive to poach. Got mine from you and will probably look to get another next year when yours lay more! Like you said, patience is key.
Hey I’m in Ohio and when I look up if I can get a dbt in Ohio, I never get a direct answer. Do I need some kind of permit to own it here? If so, is it easy to get? Or is it illegal in Ohio and I just am not allowed to get one?
I have a red eared slider my nephew got my mom as a gift and is now like 3-4 years old and like 4-5 inches or so. Just this weekend i got a yellow bellied slider from petco because thats all they had. She is ok, but i really like and want a diamondback terrapin. If i get it small would it work with the current 2 i have? Im starting to do research where to get, and your video has helped. Thanks. If you have any im interested.
Hi @dantheturtleman , I want to buy a baby concentric dimaondback terrapin. Where can i buy one, i already have 2 turtles for the past two years. Can you please help me find a person to buy baby male
These seem super expensive here in Ontario. Looking like $600 for regular Northerns. Looking to get into the turtle game, watched a ton of videos and slowly building my 65g tank
Hey Dan I was wanting to get a diamond back terrapin and I have a breeder right now that I want some from I’m just not 100 percent sure if he is legit and I could use you help
You mentioned that people often overpay for their terrapins. What do you think are the normal prices for concentric, Ornate, etc diamondback terrapins?
Y'know it really depends on the individual. A VERY general guide is 100 ish for a northern, concentrics 200-300, ornates 4-800. This is super general because there are some really nice individuals that can be more than that (like if a concentric has bold patterns, or an ornate is flowerback. Also if the terrapins are larger or older, they're a bit more!)
@@DanTheTurtleMan_ Hi Dan, love your channel. I’d like to buy a Diamondback Terrapin from you. Do you have any available? If not, when do you expect to have some available? Thanks, Michael.
@@osullm24 Hi Michael! Thank you for the kind words. I have a few ornates available now and they're listed on my Patreon. I will have hatchlings ready towards the end of the summer. Thank you for your support!
@@DanTheTurtleMan_ I’d love an Ornate especially the flower back if you have any, I know they’re more expensive but I don’t mind paying more for something I really want, if not, standard Ornates are fine too, I like the white skin with some markings on the head instead of completely plain (I know they don’t have as many markings as Northern / Carolina). Anyway, if we could have a direct chat to discuss in more detail would be great 👍🏻
I want one and need to know the exact place to get one. When I saw the one turtle girl has I wanted one bad. Do u sell.. Can I buy one from u. I watched afew of ur videos and want to know if u sell them ur self

@@DanTheTurtleMan_ interesting! I paid 600 for an ornate/centrata, however they’re extremely rare here in Canada because of the no import rule, and hardly anyone is breeding them (we definitely can’t keep them outside lol) Thanks for the reply.

have you heard of underground reptiles? I want babies but their illegal to seel under 4 im sure you know, the site and reviews seemed valid but im still skeptical because i ordered from “my turtle pet store” or whatever and got finessed
I have two female Northern Diamondback Terrapins and one male ornate diamondback terrapin. I got all of mine on Craigslist I paid $175 for the 2 Northern Diamondback Terrapins and $400 for the 1 ornate diamondback terrapin from two different people. the two came from a guy downsizing. The ornate was being sold as the people had them. One of the Northern Diamondbacks would always have a skin infection but soon got over it. then her sister bit her in the face and cause another infection and a permanent scar she had to be separated to heal. just recently she got back to normal and moved in a enclosure outside.
Illegal in NC to own but ordering keeping at home what is it their business what I have in my home 😅 it’s crap! Have to pay 10 dollars for a permit to buy with them to say no 🤦🏻
Many of mine have come from people who didn't know any better and purchased from him. It's such a shame. I also am vehemently against websites selling terps as well. Private breeders only in my opinion!
@@DanTheTurtleMan_ I've known him since the 80s he has had bedrooms full of turtles since 87 88ish and he would poach the same nest sites every year literally 1000s of eggs a year he also dealt in bog and wood turtles for a.while
