This is a video on where to get a hedgehog. Make sure to watch the whole video before deciding to go get a hedgehog. There is extremely important info on WHS, qualified hedgehog breeders, and I also give some info on a great hedgehog reference book for beginner hedgehog owners that you can download for free. Always make sure to do your research on a new pet before deciding to get one.

I got my hedgie from a pet store but the breeder worked there aswell and he told us what to get and what would be best. So not all pet stores can be bad.

I didn't see this video before I got my hedgehog and I really wish I had. I purchased my hedgie from a pet store and knew nothing at all about buying one. That was a huge mistake. Thelma (my hedgie) recently passed away because she had wobbly hedgehog syndrome. She was also extremely antisocial at first but I managed to warm her up a little. She developed tumors all over her body and it got so bad that eventually, she was put down. The point of this story is that it is DEFINITELY a very important thing when you check who you're buying from.

I have a hedgehog and He is so cute. I love Hedgehogs and I am scared because I got him from the pet store. I hope he doesn't get sick. We have been working with him so he can get used to us. We love our hedgie. Thank you for the video.

I just recently saw a hedgehog on the side of the road with its head smashed open with organs coming out of the neck. People need to be careful on the road. I felt like crying when I saw it. and what is rlly bad is it was close to a school and on that day there was summer school going on...

The closest breeder to me was 4 hours away and my parents of course weren't going to make the trip. So I had to pick between the pet store and Craigslist. I chose a person from Craigslist who seemed good and my hedgie had mites when I got him, luckily the old owner paid for most of it but she originally just wanted to buy him back. The vet also told us that he was around 4-5 months old when the person from Craigslist said he was 2 months old. :/ he's fine now but it's really irritating.

+♡Emmie Reeves♡ If you buy one with a disease, then you're speaking with your wallet and telling the breeder or shelter that you don't care if they have the disease or not. If the shelter knows they'll sell anyway, then they'll no longer have an incentive to try and keep their pets healthy. You're much better off buying the healthiest happiest hedgehog in town so all the other businesses know that they have to provide the same level of care if they want to earn money by selling their hogs. Capitalism es numero uno.

How do i get a healthy hedghog😭😭 i only have like 2 breeders close by and one of the customers hedghog got diagnosed from cancer at 1!! And idk if i wanna get mine from that same place bc what if I get one and they get sick too? And I literally can't find any vet

I got my hedgehog from a pet store, but they do have the permits and certificates. They gave the permits to me and showed me they were real. They do take care of them, they keep them with their brothers and sisters until they are chosen by its owner. The only thing is they don’t have deep knowledge of hedgehogs, they don’t really know about them or what to feed them... they sold me a small cage (I later bought a big one). She is not antisocial... BUT she is grumpy at first, she is only a social butterfly with me... she hates everyone else

I got my hedgie Sonic from a petstore. He came to me with mites and was very anti-social. His was approx 3 months. He's 5 months now and he is starting to get more used to be handled. I had no other option. The closest breeder to me was HedgehogsByVickie but I heard bad things about her. She uses corn cob bedding which isn't safe for them, she never handles her hedgies and one of them was diagnosed with WHS.

I can help! unfortunately, hedgehogs are just an expensive pet. All the care items though, you can get top quality cage and all for about $70 on amazon. in pet stores, the cage alone can cost $200. Another great way to find a cage is look up near by yard sales. if you're really tight on cash, you can use regular house wares as water/food dishes and you can cut an arch in a large plastic bowl to use as a hide away.

i really want a hedgehog and name it mr.squeakers or mr.prickles and i was wondering if there are any predators i should know about so i can watch out for them which this might help i live in greenville SC in case you know any animals that would try to hurt or kill it for prey in that state because i watch videos and they klet them get exersice by outside and i would have a play pen for him

Can hedgehogs carry any diseases that can be spread to humans, especially if they bite you? And vice-versa - can a hedgehog catch a cold if I have one?

it should. I just got mine from an exotic pet store too. Only thing is when you first get it, don't hold it and move it 24/7.

Okay, you're probably going to think I'm a bad hedgehog owner but let me explain: my dog and hedgehog are friends, and no, I was not the one to introduce them to each other. So it all started a month and a half ago and I fed my hedgehog and left the room. My dog knows how to open doors so he opened my room's door and he smelled my hedgehog's food so he went up to his cage and like I said, he knows how to open doors so he opened it and noticed my hedgehog and they played all day. To this day, they're besties!! 🐶➕hedgehog (sorry, there's no hedge hog emoji)➖buddies forever and ever!!

The information about getting one from a pet store, is false. You never know maybe the pet store owners feed them, and take good care of them! It depends on the pet store honestly.

I got my hedgehog Vilkas from a USDA certified breeder and he's happy and healthy as possible. Loves to cuddle with me on my chest x3 I also have papers showing his lineage and breeding certification from his breeder which ensured me his bloodline didn't carry WHS. I like many others wanted a hedgehog really badly, but I didn't want to sacrifice quality and health for accessibility. I got to see where he was bred and kept, and you could tell his breeders were very nurturing for their hedgies. Make sure you do your research before you buy one of these little guys!

there is a pet store near my house that only buys from certified breeders. and local breeders that are also certified. is this okay to get one from there? they are housed with multiple other hedgehogs. they are all well cared for. should I get one?
