I am in the process of adopting a Yorkie puppy. I was clueless, and I am so glad I did a ton of research before making a decision: otherwise I would have probably made a bad choice. I searched nationally and was fortunate to find a breeder in my state. The process included me filling out a lengthy application, waiting for approval, being notified that I had been approved, and being placed on a waitlist. We've now been "matched," and I've been able to FaceTime with my breeder and my puppy. We will be bringing him home soon.
Hi Megan, I did get my Yorkie from a breeder who was recommended by a coworker friend who had already gotten 2 dogs herself previously and was very happy with her dogs. This was 4 years ago and I am so lucky to have this little pup in my life.. he is just a joy to have around and is my shadow. Where I am Rocky is right next to me..
I got my little guy and called him Rocky too!! He was 11 weeks old and he is a quality dog for sure. I love him to bits. He is 75% Yorkie and 25% Maltese. Wonderful temperment...and boy is he cute.
Love this video! Getting a puppy should not be as easy as buying something on Amazon. Good breeders don’t even advertise. You have to find them and more than likely get on a waiting list and be ready to answer lots of questions.
I completely agree with you. I realized that when I first was looking for a Yorkshire terrier I didn’t know all these things so I just wanted to address it for people. I was walking two of my dogs in the park in Boston yesterday and this girl came up to me and said is your dog a tea cup? I told her that there is no such thing as a tea cup and you could tell she was visibly irritated and kept insisting there was. I told her that it was just a marketing gimmick and she was so mad. It was a funny conversation.
@@MeganGraham I don't care about the teacup thing I just want to find a Yorkie that doesn't cost 3,000 So I gave up lmao 😅😂 and Yorkies being delivered is a scam anyways your not going to get anything but screwed lol
I have 2 Yorkers. My 1st is from yorkie parents where I live, the other unfortunately is from a puppy mill. I got alc registration for my puppy mill yorkie. Anyways, both my girls did have health issues and I strongly agree with your message here. One thing that has helped slow the vet visits was my decision to home cook and groom them. They are now 9 and 8 and I am ready/experienced to get me a 3rd yorkie, who this time I will source with the help of my friend/professional groomer. Thanks for this video, viewers beware!
Hi, I’m Chris. I’m actually looking for my forever friend now, and I love Yorkies! I’ve been watching your videos to educate myself on the breed, and I just wanted to thank you for such amazing content.
Love your videos! I have a boy Yorkie that will be 4 years old this month. His name is Benji. He has been a joy since day 1. I had a girl yorkie when we adopted Benji and she more or less helped potty train Benji. We also had a boy named Bentley, he was what they call a blue Yorkie. His hair would have a blue cast to it when it was wet from his bath. All 3 of our Yorkie were a joy and well behaved.
Thank you so much for sharing your story about your Yorkshire terriers, they all sound so sweet and special. How amazing that your girl helped to train Benji. She must’ve been wonderful ❤️
Thank you so much for your great information. I had a wonderful yorkie/silky mix. My aunt had a friend who's Australia Silky who met a yorkie. She gave my daughter and I knew of the pups. She was so lovable. I still remember her and love her so much. Even though she's been gone for many years. I want to get another puppy, Now I know , what I should watch out for. Thank you.
Thank you so much, Megan! I have wanted a Yorkie for many, many years. I am now in the process of grieving my dog of 18 years. I'm hoping to adopt or buy a female Yorkie sometime over the next six months. I found your youtube channel while researching yorkers online. Your videos have been beneficial. Thank you, Sandy
Same here. My baby just died on thanksgiving. We’re grieving the loss of my yorkie 😢. My kids are so sad. I’m not rushing to get any ol yorkie. I’m researching and taking time to find the perfect yorkie for my family.
Thank you so much for this video. I am currently looking for a Yorkshire Terrier. With a heavy heart I had to put mine to sleep last Sunday. She had cancer. I cry everyday for my Gigi the sweetest dog ever. I will look into the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America. And I will continue to do my search just like you recommended before I get one. Thank you!
Thanks Magan, I still cry for her everyday. I miss my dog so much. I'm just praying I get one as good as her. She was a sweet little dog and very smart.😔
We went through a similar process when we adopted our two Westies. I think the Westies couple under the same type of category as the Yorkies and we live in Southwest Ontario, which is notorious for backyard, breeders, and puppy mills. We found a breeder through the national Yorkshire club like the Canadian registered breeders association. Our first male was an absolute doll, and he wasn’t top quality to be shown, but he was still a fully registered Westy. We decided to get our second one a few years later, went back to the same breeder, although we had moved eight hours away and pleased again for getting the quality that we were looking for. We will be looking in the next year or so for getting a another dog and we are considering a Yorky your information has been terrific. Thank you.
Hi Megan! What a great video!! I hope everyone who wants a dog of any breed will take this advice🐾. Alfie is precious as usual💕hi to Poppy, Lola and Simba 🐾
I personally do not thing so. YTCA breeders have much more stringent standards, that said...please consider adopting a yorkie. There are so many wonderful babies that need a home.❤️❤️
I thought I found a reputable breeder on the AKC website and honestly think she tried to scam me! She absolutely refused to allow me see the puppy. Said she would only do a video viewing. She also never showed her with the mama. She wanted me to pick up at 7 weeks and when I asked her to keep longer she said most people want the puppies while they are still little?!! Needless to say she ended up telling me I was too much of a problem for her and refused to sell puppy to me. So glad I found these videos because I’ll be much more cautious going forward.
I got two from what might be a common site. I didn't know any of this and I've picked them both up the same day. Both came from rural areas and they're both winners. I guess God protected me in my ignorance. They came from experienced breeders. I did know to stay away from the teacup headings.
I had been looking for a yorkie for months. I looked everywhere. I actually found my yorkie on Craigslist. She was 100 miles away. My daughter and I went to check her out. I fell in love with her. I brought her home and the next day made an appointment with a veterinarian. After examining her she told me I really lucked out with her. She was 7 weeks old, healthy and clean. Will I get another one this way. No. After watching this video, should I decide to find another, I’ll take your advice and look through Yorkies Club of America. Thank you so much for your advice.
I really appreciate you being so open minded:). I know that when we get our fist puppies, many times we have no idea (and we are sooooooo excited to get one, we want one right away!). I am so glad that everything worked out for you though. It sounds like she has a wonderful home!
My name is Tommy and I've been looking for a Yorkshire terrier for quite some time I've been scammed because you're all kinds of things and I love the video thank you
Thank you for this very helpful info! I am sooooo upset with the scams out there and want to get one so badly - and yes, I do want a smaller one. Thank you!
I’m looking to get a Yorkie rescue dog from a local 25 year establishment. Very careful of whom they let the dogs go to. Ready with all shots, spayed or neutered, microchipped.
I just subscribed to this channel, and I love your videos. while I think all animals are precious, I have a special place in my heart for Yorkies. I would love to have the opportunity to love, and to care for in my home.
Thank you for this video! I'm currently searching for a Yorkie and I really want to make sure that it comes from a good breeder. How big are your Yorkies? Weight wise. I had a Yorkie that was 3.5lb but unfortunately, he passed away at a young age due to chronic kidney disease, so now I'm afraid to get such a small one even though his size was perfect. So now I'm just trying to see what other sizes look like.
Megan, I wanted you to know that I did pick up my yorkie daughter CiCi on April 3 and she is precious, smart and so good. We are in love with her. I wish I could send you a picture of her.
Sorry, I have no idea. I don’t think the amount that they charge is of any consequence. Yorkies are really expensive dogs so the expense of having them will be pretty high.
I love alfe! How much should I be paying for a yorkie from a good breeder? And I live in an apartment by myself and work 8-5, how do I leave the little guy or girl home alone until I get home at 5:30p? Thanks for sharing!
awe I am sorry for your loss on March 4th. I too lost my girl Echo my lovely german shepherd on March 7. And now I have little Rocky the Morkie who has filled the hole in my heart. I love him so muchl
Ok, sorry I just realized the bad grammar. So what if we go and pick them up, and the breeders show you a paperwork showing that they are legally breeding the Yorkies. Is that still ok? If this still does not make sense I am sorry and I will try again. Sorry
Hi, I’m not sure what you’re asking. Do you mind going back and reading the question to edit it so I can understand? Thank you so much. Hope you’re having a great day
@@Samantha-fd6js Oh my goodness please don’t be sorry. I just trying to read it a few times before and I couldn’t figure out what you were asking. So are you saying… Is it a good thing if they can show you paperwork that they are Yorkies? No, it’s not. So that’s the most basic thing that you would be asking for but it doesn’t say anything about how they were raised, if the parents were treated in a humane manner, or if they refrained from breeding dogs that had genetic issues. I still really go by the fact that I would either adopt a Yorkie which I think is the most wonderful thing to do. Or, I would contact a show breeder and get one that way. Just so you know, many show breeders retired dogs that have had babies and they find them excellent pet homes. I think this is a wonderful way to get a fantastic dog. Please let me know if this is helpful and also please know that I was not trying to be unkind I just wanted to make sure to answer your question appropriately and I wasn’t sure how to do so. Thanks so much for being on here!
@@MeganGraham Yes that was exactly what I was asking. And yes I understand that you were not trying to be unkind. I am getting the hang of English. I know 4 other languages and English is the one I just learned so I have been practicing Grammer. Thank you so much ❤️
@@Samantha-fd6js Wow!!!! That is incredible. You write much better than many people who speak English as their first language ❤️❤️ Look up The Yorkshire terrier club of America and you will see a list of approved breeders that they have. It can take a while and you might have to wait for a long time for a puppy, or to adopt one of the amazing moms… But the people on that list love the breed so much and do a wonderful job
Puppies online are fake fake fake they have no puppies and want a deposit there is no puppy mill bc there is no puppy lmao entirely they get your deposit and never respond 🤣 I don't want a damn show dog I want a regular smeggular Yorkie to love I hate how snoody it is to buy this breed
It's not snotty to buy...but show breeders are more reputable in general. To be part of the YTCA is difficult and stringent. It sounds like you have already learned how it (can) go when you do it the other way. It's a free country, so you can do it your own way 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Thank you for this video, it was very helpful. I'm starting my search for a reputable breeder. It would be so helpful if you would recommend one. I understand that responsible breeders don't want to be bombarded with messages. If you can contact me I would appreciate it. My name is Grissel. Thank you
