Your presentations helped me to pull out of a 40 year depression which was quite severe for years. Read into that what you will. I bought a five year journal and Marcus Aurelius' Meditations. I'm dealing w/anxiety, I think stemmed from depression, for the first time. I've always been pretty self-reliant and practical, etc., etc, but I'm observant and a thinker. My mind's always racing and with the world today, its tough not to get annoyed, angry to the point where I'm becoming more and more reclusive. I've recently started getting into Stoicism and meditating and I think the hardest part is where does one begin. I think for myself, I have to focus on what causes my anxiety the most and its detaching myself from things that I can't control (VERY HARD) and being strict with myself while being tolerant of others. I think a lot of the time they're related, but its not going to be easy, but I think at this point its a must.

Can you give an example of what you might write? I want to start but I don't wanna be writing and writing just to find myself doing it wrong, like working out and being on your third set and have someone correct you to tell you you've been doing it wrong all along.
@zoff18

@@cdcm17 if you don’t mind me jumping in, I feel like the best way to start writing is to jump in and try it. The first time you ever try something, like the lifting example you used, it will probably always feel awkward. As for journaling, start small as well. Write a sentence or two about how the day went. Anything different that stuck out. Anything that may have made you feel a certain way out of the ordinary. Eventually you will find yourself becoming able to express your thoughts better on paper, but the first days of journaling and habit building are essential in my opinion. Best of luck

This realization occured to me.. The fact that I am ongoing my studies and college is for the fact of experience and memories with people, I've so long gone with the idea of being anxious of not being able to pass this subject or this exam because of what not, I just made myself remember the fact that I study not for the grades but for the experience and being here at this moment, and this just makes me motivated to do my works when I have the time rather than be anxious and not doing anything at all, because I know the fact that not taking action now would just cause me to regret later on. I just want something fun to look back later on in life, because I know, this is the last 2 years of my time here at school, and I know I just want or rather make the best of it.

A most interesting program! As a woman who is approaching my 7th decade, having spent many wonderful years, and many hard years with losses of people I love - many gone far too young, and with many good and bad decisions to ponder over, can you do a talk on applying Stoicism to those of us who are facing death sooner than later. I suppose this would also apply to anyone with terminal illness. Many thanks for your work!

Not sure if you’ll see this but there is a podcast called “practical stoicism” that talks a lot about death. He explains death is not something to be afraid of because it’s natural. Everyone will die and therefore there’s no use worrying about it. I know that would be harder as you approach higher ages but it still rings true.

This is the first content I have seen on philosophy and the stoic. And it's crazy that not more people talk about it as I see a lot of moden day people in these old Stoics like David Goggins, Andrew Tate, Muhamid Ali, Mike Tison, Wim Hoff. All these people and more do a lot of the things your talking about in this video and following the example of Stoic. Witch is really cool to see. As I try and follow the moden day people and learn from them. But now I know it goes back further and I can learn from the Stoic themselves. Many thanks.

A life hack I've been trying lately. When I'm down in the dumps, i've stopped denying my true feelings. I've stopped saying, 'Dagnabbit. I'm blue again today 😞. Cheer up. Think happy thoughts'. Instead, I accept. I say, "Hey, I am down. The hormones, some internal conflict, something's off. It's just a fact. Sigh.... THEN, paradoxically enough, I get this relief sensation. The mood lightens up somewhat. Conscious and unconscious have been aligned. TBC

Our reality is the story we tell ourselves about ourselves, printed upon the pages of the lessons we learned to tell ourselves. That’s why I love stoicism too because when my inner cynic raises cane and seeks to judge harshly the actions of others, I am reminded that the first (and perhaps only) violation of the other is against my sensibility. Yet, how much truth does my fickle sensibility hold…because if I learned Ryan was losing money on this activity or was making money but donating all of it or had scientifically devised a price that was meant to motivate the successful efforts of others or whatever…then the only person violated is my cynic, who has caused me to distrust rather than be free. What stoicism has taught me is the value of teachers, and for good teachers I am willing to pay.
