Hi! I don't know why youtube recommended this to me as I currently don't have any plans of travelling and I don't watch travel videos. I feel like this video is the very essence of RU-vid that I love. That you're basically giving advice to the entire internet as you would a friend. That to me, is so lovely. You're a wonderful person, looking out for others like this. Ended up watching the entire video entirely simply because I was curious. Wishing you all the best and i'll be waiting for more videos from you❤

Subject: Thank You for Your Informative Videos on Athens Dear Elena, I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for your wonderful videos on traveling in Greece, especially your recent one about where to stay in Athens. As someone who was born and raised in Athens but left for Canada when I were 19 years old many years ago, I found your insights incredibly informative. It's fascinating to learn more about the Athenian neighborhoods through your content-more than I knew even when I lived and worked there! Watching your videos not only provides great tips but also brings back fond memories of walking around downtown Athens. Your content has a perfect mix of practical advice and personal touch, and I really appreciate the effort you put into sharing your experiences. Showing the map of Athens is GREAT! Keep up the fantastic work, and thank you for helping me reconnect with my roots in such an enjoyable way! Best regards, Mike

Mr. Mike, Thank you so much for your kind and supportive message! It means a lot to me. Having lived abroad for five years in Abu Dhabi, UAE, and traveled to more than 30 countries, I've been fortunate to witness the beauty of our world. Yet, I believe that Athens stands out as one of the most beautiful cities. This realization inspired me to start this channel, to showcase the true beauty of Athens. One of my main goals is to connect Greeks living abroad with their homeland, and it brings me immense joy to know that my videos have reached you and helped you reconnect with your roots. If there's a specific area in Athens you'd like me to feature in a video, please let me know! Warm regards, Elena

Love the video, wrote down lots of tips. 🙏 If I could suggest one thing, invest in a tripod just so the camera doesn’t move so much, gives me a little headache, but the information was so helpful! 🙌 I’m female and planning on a solo trip next September and safety is my biggest concern. So, thanks so much! 😍 Lastly, I wanna check out a AEK football game, is it safe travel out of the city centre by myself? The games start so late! 👀🇬🇷✌️

Hey! 😊 First off, THANK YOU so much for the kind words! I’m so glad you found the tips helpful, and your feedback is super appreciated! 🙏 I’ll definitely work on investing in a tripod to keep things steady-don’t want to be giving anyone a headache! 😅 That’s so exciting that you’re planning a solo trip next September! Solo travel is such an empowering experience, but I totally get that safety is a priority. Keep being mindful, and you’ll have the best time! 🌍💃 As for the AEK football game, I love that you want to check it out! 😍 But, I have to be honest-while the suburbs are generally safer than the city center, I wouldn’t recommend going alone, especially late at night. Football matches can sometimes get a bit rowdy, and it’s better to avoid large crowds in unfamiliar areas, especially if you're solo. If you really want to go, I’d suggest going with a local or joining a group to feel more secure! 😊 Thanks again for your support, and feel free to reach out if you have any other questions for your trip! Wishing you all the best on your adventure! ✈️✨

We stayed at a hotel in the triangle at Athinas 35……the hotel was great, the main road Athinas was fine even at night, but not as nice as the hotel we used in Makrygianni
@ElenaGreekLife
@ElenaGreekLife 10 дней назад
I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay! Athinas Street is a main road, and it's generally safer than the smaller, more isolated side streets in the area. The address you're mentioning is closer to Monastiraki, which is a lively spot-especially at night when people are out and about enjoying the city. It’s a bit different from Omonoia, which tends to be quieter. Of course, the Makrigianni area is even better!

@@ElenaGreekLifeHi Eleni, we have booked an apartment in the Attiki area near to the Metro station, would you say that this is a safe area? Thanks Andrew
@ElenaGreekLife
@ElenaGreekLife 2 месяца назад
@@asowray Mr Andrew, it depends, this area is not the worst but still it is not good. I am mentioning that in the video 04:16. Attiki is a mixed neighborhood, so safety can be different depending on where you are and the time of day. During the day, it’s usually fine, and you'll see locals going about their daily lives. However, at night, some parts might feel less safe because there are fewer people around and not as much lighting. What you can do is enter the address of your accommodation on Google Maps and check out the neighborhood using Street View. This will give you a good sense of what the area looks like. If you're traveling with family, there might be better options within the same budget. I’d recommend looking into a few other areas that are also close to the Acropolis. For example, 'Koukaki' is a great area within walking distance to the Acropolis, and 'Petralona' is also close, though a bit farther than Koukaki. The Attiki Metro station is 6 stops from the Acropolis on the red line. If you stay on the same metro line but in the opposite direction, you'll find some nicer neighborhoods where many locals live, and they’re generally more peaceful. Consider areas like 'Agios Ioannis' (3 stops from the Acropolis), 'Dafni' (4 stops), 'Agios Dimitrios' (5 stops), and 'Ilioupoli' (6 stops). These neighborhoods are all along the same metro line and might offer a more comfortable experience. I hope this answers your question! Please, let me know if there is anything else that you would like to know! Kind Regards, Eleni

Thank you for your honesty! Is Mavromichali street safe? It is not far from Omnia… Not like I can change my appointment (late), but to be prepared 😆
@ElenaGreekLife
@ElenaGreekLife 2 месяца назад
Mavromichali street is in between Kolonaki and Exarcheia area. Kolonaki is one of Athens' most upscale and sophisticated neighborhoods, known for its chic atmosphere and high-end boutiques. Exarcheia is a very vivid nighboorhood, it has a reputation as the heart of Athens' anarchist movement and is a hub for artists, intellectuals, and students. This part of the city is generally safe and it is a good choice but starting from Panepistimio metro station as you walk towards Omonoia, especially at night, it’s a good idea to be a bit more cautious. Actually, don't walk towards Omonoia at night. Please let me know if there is anything else that you would like to know!

You nailed it here Elena! It's a pity that so many modern hotels exist at the city center, yet it's not a very safe area at nights, expecially for women.
@ElenaGreekLife
@ElenaGreekLife 2 месяца назад
Thank you so much! That’s exactly what I had in mind when I did this video, women that will be staying in this areas because they didn’t know that it is not safe. I cannot even imagine their disappointment when they walk around there and they will be right to form a bad opinion about Athens. But, there are so many beautiful places in Athens and it is a pity to not discover them!

@@ElenaGreekLife I sent your video to my daughter, who will be going next month with us. I have been there and walked around places like Omonia plenty of times with no trouble, but I am also a big guy. Also, the crime in Athens is nothing like that of US cities. US cities are far more dangerous.
@ElenaGreekLife
@ElenaGreekLife 2 месяца назад
@@georgeklimes7604 Thank you so much Mr George! Of course, Athens is very safe, one of the safest capitals in Europe as researches show! Still, though the are some areas that for me as a local I would advice people not to go, especially women. That is kind of like a friendly advice, I mean if a friend of mine asked me where to stay and where not to stay I would advice to stay away of these areas. Thank you for loving Greece and if there is anything else that you would like to know about your visit or your doughter's visit, please let me know!

@@ElenaGreekLife Yes, I understand why you would not recommend that people go to places like Omonia. It is very scary for many tourists, and a lot of drug addicts are there. Exharchia is also scary for many people because of the graffiti and the police outside. I walk through there all the time when I visit and do not have issues. But I understand why it scares people. I usually stay in Kolonaki, which, of course, is very nice. But I am leaving Athens and going to Kalymnos. Then I am coming back for a day. So I might go to Glyfada since I have never been there. My wife and I are vegetarians (no seafood). Do you know of any good vegan gyro restaurants? Also I want to get a WhatsUp? SIM card when I am there. Do you know the closest place to Kolonaki to buy that? Thank you again for your video!
@ElenaGreekLife
@ElenaGreekLife 2 месяца назад
@@georgeklimes7604 Yes, of course! Kolonaki is really nice, one of the best areas in Athens city centre, if not the best! Glyfada is also a must see! Vivid place but different than the city centre, Glyfada has this sense of calmness and tranquility! Kalymnos is really beautiful island and peaceful, very nice choice! About the SIM card, do you mean 'WhatsUp' the brand? That is a product of 'COSMOTE' and if this is what you mean there is a shop very close to the Kolonaki Square. This is the location: maps.app.goo.gl/GrdWPV2xbVreFbEBA I can recommend Vegan Beat for vegan gyros, from what I have heard people say is nice, but I haven't really tried it - vegan gyros is not my cup of tea! What about psiri ?
@ElenaGreekLife
@ElenaGreekLife 6 дней назад
Psiri is lively and fun, full of bars, street art, and great food, so there’s always something to do. But it can get noisy at night and feel busy. It’s mostly safe, though you should watch your things, as there can be some petty crime. Let me know if there is anything else that you would like about Greece!

As for myself decided on purpose to go live in Omonia, why is everyone afraid of addicts and homeless people?? It is close to everything and the rent is cheap, very cheap I may add. And well yes I am not a person who is easily scared or intimidated, I guess that makes a difference. In my opinion videos like this, make things look and sound worse then they actually are. And reading the comments under here, I should start my own night protection firm to walk ladies from Omonia square (metro) to Psyri, may have found a gap in the market.
