I had 3 dreams come true in one single year. I always had 38 as my favorite number and when i turned 38 these 3 things happened. 1/ I suddenly won a Lego competition and became the designer of a lego castle set that was so popular it crached the Lego website during preorders. Nobody understood how it happened but they sold twice as much sets as the preorders were supposed to be. 2/ I had the dream for over 10 years to have my own house, we never found one to buy so I became the architect and I had it build myself. It's a dreamhouse with everything we could imagine. 3/ Probably the most valuable thing. I engaged in a theological battle with a muslim who was trying to convert christians to islam. But after 6 month of demolishing his cult and explaining christianity, he gave his life to Jesus and became Christian. I've never met him. You think I'm lucky? Blessings come after a lot of suffering. First take up your cross and follow Jesus. God can take everything away, I know my reward is not here but in heaven. I'll have an even better house up there. God bless you

In regards to verifiable pagan myths, many Christians believe that God “gave a glimpse” to the souls of various peoples before the incarnation of Christ, speaking in parables to the world around the Israelites. In regards to this, even the Scriptures allude to this when the Wise Men of the East travel to worship the Christ Child, entertaining the certain realities of truth. C.S. Lewis once said, speaking of these pagan myths, “they were like ‘strange dreams’ of the Truth that was to come”. Jung theorized that these archetypes were the ancient riverbeds along which our psychic current naturally flows. Even Jesus said this in Luke 8:9-11: His disciples asked him what this parable meant. He said, “The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of God has been given to you, but to others I speak in parables, so that, “‘though seeing, they may not see; though hearing, they may not understand.’ “This is the meaning of the parable: The seed is the word of God. The Scripture do speak of people unconsciously prophesying when they do not know it. Then one of them, named Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, spoke up, “You know nothing at all! You do not realize that it is better for you that one man die for the people than that the whole nation perish.” He did not say this on his own, but as high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the Jewish nation, and not only for that nation but also for the scattered children of God, to bring them together and make them one. John 11: 49-52 The Magical Negro is a quasi-mystical character in fiction that often helps the white protagonist to get out of trouble. African-American filmmaker Spike Lee popularized the term. And he derided the archetype of the "super-duper magical negro" in 2001 while discussing films with students at Washington State University and at Yale University. Recent well known examples in Hollywood included Whoopi Goldberg playing Oda Mae Brown in Ghost (1990), Morgan Freeman playing Ellis Boyd "Red" Redding in The Shawshank Redemption (1994), and Laurence Fishburne playing Morpheus or Gloria Foster playing the Oracle in The Matrix (1999) and one of its sequels. And the list goes on and on and on. Even Madonna’s African Jesus in her video “Like a Prayer” could qualify.

Great points I wish more people would adopt an honest approach to the pursuit of truth instead of closing off entire parts of the human mind when trying to understand things. Faith in true spiritual concepts helps us understand truths, live by them, and reap the benefits of living by them well before our minds can fully comprehend them.

Among many other things about the brain, I find it amazing that we can dream of complex places and structures that we think we know we've never seen or been before. But there's always a bit of an air of familiarity about those places so they're probably amalgamations of places and structures we have seen and been to over the course of our lives.

This question is more about "why does the phenomenon of dreams exist?" or "how did the phenomenon come to be?" where I interpreted it as "why/how do dreams manifest?" which to me has a clear cut answer since I have a great deal experience and a lot of practice in dreaming itself. To me, dreams are where the conscious, subconscious and the body interact (and whatever other spirits dwell in you). For me it's mostly these three. Go ahead and change your diet drastically for a week or so, and I'd be surprised if you didn't get a dream about it from your body asking "what's with the sudden and dramatic change of nutrients?" Dreams from the subconscious and the body are also easy to tell apart. Body dreams come from physiological and primitive origins such as primal fears, or are an alert that there is something wrong around you while you're asleep (such as sleep apnea). Subconscious dreams are more refined, and make use of cultural and social information, and I'm inclined to believe these are more like the dreams Jordan was talking about in this presentation. Lastly, the conscious mind, if you can keep it and bring it with you into your dreams, can also actively interact and communicate with those other components. Explaining a false alarm can be really useful and comforting. Like, say you have some sudden unfounded fear about a recent change coming from your subconscious or body, here's one place you can address it. Well, it's helped me at least. To me, consciousness is like different kinds of light sources. When you're in the flow, it's a laser, when you're focused, it's a flash light, when you're day dreaming it's like a ceiling light and when you're dreaming it's like a lamp post without a cover so it can shine everywhere (MRI's / scans do indicate greater connectivity and interaction between parts of the brain that are more dedicated to different tasks during waking hours). Then there's also a remark to make regarding animal dreams, since our dreams can be very sophisticated but we have no clues about those of animals. We can definitely venture a good guess that animals also have the rudimentary (or rather specialized to their kind) versions of our cultural and social dreams. Just looking at dogs dreaming you can tell from different behaviors they're doing different things at different levels of complexity. Probably ranging from getting a treat to something like chasing out a stranger intent on harming their masters/family. I'd be surprised if Jordan ever comes by this post, but I found it interesting enough to share this experience with everyone else as well. Lastly a personal p.s., I once had a dream where I witnessed the experience/perspectives of about 20 different people during a small scale disaster in an urban area, all at once (and not split screen in a grid or anything like that. It's hard to explain. It was a fever dream and those are always intense/special, but this was a bit much. I don't have much of an explanation for it both occurring to me nor for what it could possibly mean as a message from the subconscious/body/both/other. Heck, maybe fever dreams are special messages from the immune system, but I'm not about to go on an expedition to find out (i.e. get sick intentionally).

Dreaming is the most underrated thing in the world yet everyone seems to disregard it. With dreams you can have the most amazing adventures, meet interesting characters, experience amazing stories, and even live through your favorite movies and shows as if you're actually there, complete with all your senses. Lucid dreaming allows you to take this a step furher. For example dream control, skill building and creativity among a list of other things. This is only touching the surface too. People who pay no attention to dreams are missing out on some of life's best experiences

I have schizophrenia and ocd and I get really scary dreams every night without fault. something terrible always happens at the end. Whether the person I was with gets stabbed or someone would give me a scary look and I’d wake up terrified and sweating. Sometimes I have dream within dreams and I have to wake up from each of them separately before I finally wake up in real life. One time I kid you not I had 15 dream within dreams. I would wake up from one, realise something was wrong, finish myself in the dream, wake up in the next and that happened 15 times. Sometimes I would realise I’m within a dream and all the people in the dream start looking at me weird and starts fighting with each other and me till I wake up sweating and confused. Sometimes it’s hard to tell whether I’m really awake or still dreaming. I really think Christopher Nolan knew what he was doing when he made inception. I live it every night

The virtual reality of our language has the potential to lead us down the deadly path of negative thinking. Yet our neuroplasticity can be unlocked to natural authentic healing. If you look at the Chronobiology of Science we see so much healing through proper understanding of a built-in (genetically determined) 7-day (circaseptan) period. This 7-day (circaseptan) period comes to the fore as a desynchronized feature of human time structure, yet plays such a role in authentic medical procedures, such as organ transplants. I have found weight training, proper sleep cycles, and fasting has recovered youthful neurogenesis. Quitting smoking back in 2010 was the best thing I could have done. I decided on Blake’s Birthday April 7th that I would quit on Cameron Birthday March 21st. I started Champix one week before my quitting day. When that day came - March 21st, 2010 -- I quit forever and never looked back. But I have had a strong family history of stroke, especially recently.

I had a dream I had to hide under my ute while drone helicopters were falling out of the sky leaving severerd torsos on the street. While I was taking cover people in white coats were collecting the torsos and taking them in to a building. So I sneaked in to the building to see what was going on. The torsos were being hooked up to computers and keep alive for experimentation. Felt suprisingly well rested that day after waking up terrified and sweating. My concussion is that's their is people that want to keep people alive in ways not naturally possible for some kind of experiment. The drone would be to do with the problems too many unmanned helicopters in the air space.

"How do you live in the world, not what is the world made of?" I think this is Jordan's primary gripe with atheistic materialists like Dawkins or Sam Harris. Science is descriptive reality that makes observations about how the world is, but it cannot answer how the world ought to be. This is where the role of philosophy and theology come to play. Jordan's detractors tend to misconstrue his belief in God as the blind worship of a deity, but they are missing his central point about using religion as a vehicle for navigating through the world.

The brain is a supercomputer absorbing all of the stimuli around it. You glance at the page of a newspaper and your brain takes in it's entirety and stores it. It's your conciseness that filters that data. In restful sleep the data is processed and in REM sleep it is reconstructed and displayed to you. Time is meaningless in that domain. I have been able to send messages to myself through that medium. Lucid dreaming is just plain frightening at times. Try interacting within the dreamscape through awareness. I'm convinced there are others in there with me and they are not always benevolent. Beware the paths you tread.

Fantasy is an abstraction of reality that makes it in a sense "more real" than nonfiction, it abstracts the core pattern of reality and tells you a secret, the same way mathematics abstracts reality into a comprehensible tool. Having a sensitivity for fantasy or the spiritual helps a person listen to patterns of meaning that are out there speaking to us psychologically, in a strange language and medium that clashes with "absolute" scientific rationality, but that for some reason, sum up incredibly vast amounts of information, some of which are tied strongly to our biology and human condition.

What's the explanation for the ubiquitous futility of typical solutions to problems? What he's saying about the source of the scenarios makes sense, but if you're dreaming about basketball, all your shots miss. If you're in a fight, your punches either don't land or land like a marshmallow hitting a pillow. In dreams, I can't even correctly throw a baseball. It's like I've forgotten how. Cops often report what they call "zombie dreams," where a dangerous person needs to be shot. In those, they can't seem to draw their weapons. When they do, it's the wrong weapon, and their grip is incorrect, aiming seems impossible, and if you can even pull the trigger, it often fails to fire. If it does fire, either you can't hit anything, or in the rare case that you actually hit what you're aiming at, the bullets have no effect. I have dreams like this every night, so I feel that failure must be some important part of the lesson dreams are trying to teach us.

@@EduardoRodriguez-du2vd I'm not really sure honestly. But the neural basis of emotions comes from deeper and deeper levels of evolution stacked on top of each other. There's you, and then there's the ancient "lizard brain" that quietly sits next to you. If archetypes are real, then they're probably just manifestations (or even reflections) of universal neural patterns all humans share. Like all humans like sugar, in one form or another. So maybe humans also like certain archetypes. Like how writers use the Hero's Journey structure (even before we knew about it), because they know humans like that story structure the most. Certain abstract things give your "lizard brain" goosebumps, and then you have to guess why it deems that thing so important/familiar. So maybe, but I don't think we can prove or disprove it yet.
