Select takes the cake here, one of the powers of Apocalypse is, he can change the height. He looks more powerful, if he upscale the other villains in the display.
Select is definitely the better figure but i overall much prefer the Retro card just cuz of the colors. The purple just adds a nice contrast with the blues
I made that kitbash. Also dyed and airbrushed the select body to make it more X-Factor Apocalypse like. I love how it towers above the other legends figures but with the darker colorscheme it makes for a sinister presence.
There's something about Gorillapocolypse I really like. Ever since I first laid eyes on it in Glen Webb's evolution videos of him, there was something about it I always loved.
I wish BAF and Animated had the height of Select. :( I bought Animated online. Waiting on it to arrive. I went to antique mall yesterday, boom, there on the shelf... Select. I saw his height in person. 😮 I had to buy it. Lol. So now I'll have 2. Maybe I'll swap the head like you showed us, or buy a spare loose from ebay.
I got Select for less than any Legends version and it’s great. The height and details alone clinches it, but the articulation is better than I expected.
Wow, you said this one's been coming, and now was the perfect time! Growing up I had the 9" projector figure Apocalypse with the mace-handed arm, but for the longest time had that 10" old-school version you showed on my shelf. The Select one wasn't quite as big but otherwise I've ADORED having such an intricately-designed version of En Sabah Nur, and the head sculpt never bothered me. And kudos for the old Toybiz Nightcrawler too. That's also been my go-to Kurt for a very long time. Would LOVE to see a versus video for Nightcrawler AND Colossus.
I've seen only two reviews of select apocalypse and both of those reviews his metal tubes unplugged in the articulation segment, does his tubes pop off regularly? And does the retro apocalypse looks good with archangel claws? I think he might since his arm cannon is almost the same color as the claw
I hate the head on the select, so I guess that means retro. They are getting better with their releases though, so if you wait eventually they will give an almost perfect one.
To be honest, I've never really liked any of these figures except the select one. Apocalypse is a very intelligent and emposing character, but when it comes to the toybiz and hasbro offerings, they're way too small and have the proportions of a generic brute/goon. The head is too big, and the Hasbro has the best head sculpt overall, but he doesn't feel too chunky to me.
Retro carded...pretty easy pick fir me. Is loved the select but when I got the retro... Much better.. And picked up a second 1 for 25 bucks at big bad toy store sale.
Picked up the retro carded marvel legends Apocalypse just recently, Zero regrets. To me he's the truest representation of the character especially when looking at the comics and the animated series rendition of him.
I have the BAF version, and I think it's the perfect Apocalypse. I wouldn't trade him for any of the others. The Retro version is to cartoonish and flat looking. The Marvel Select is too gangly and thin. (I like my Apocalypses swole). And the ToyBiz, it's way too outdated. So for me personally the clear winner is the BAF. But that's just my 2-cents.
Thanks for the tip, I would like the taller Marvel Select mainly for the accessories, I own the Blue Metallic 2018 build a figure with the claw, and love it, but it did cost me 120 US total, I do like the extra stuff on the Retro card version and like the face a bit more, possibly the paint ? I should just be satisfied with the one I got. But I am tempted to get another version.
I like the select body with the retrocard head as the ideal figure. then you still have an alternate head with legends body for an animated version... best of both worlds B-)
I can't wait for you to review the page punchers ghosts of krypton superman with detachable armor and superman blue figures Jason but also soon enough I hoped you review the our worlds at war superman Ed mcguinnis figure (based on a specific storyline not be confused with he future state version).
I just recently picked up Marvel Selects Venom/Madness Venom, and I totally blame you for the fact I'm hunting down Spectacular Spidey and now this Apocalypse.
If it was me and it wasn't mentioned in the items description I'd be getting my money back for what happened with the Toy biz Apocalypse, they should mention stuff like that in the description
It came down to the two I have and I cant decide. I love the retro for my animated display but really like select as well, it does look more like an MCU version though but its a good figure.
Thank you for the kind words. As far as my voice, can you be more specific? Like, is it the volume? My energy? Pitch? If there is something I can work on, I want to be better.
I still love the ToyBiz BAF. I also really enjoyed the earlier 90s 5" ToyBiz 7POA Apocalypse that came with a claw and a missle launcher (2nd edition) and the 10" version. They knocked the sculpt and proportions out of the park for some of those early ToyBiz figures. Although the V1 Apocalypse and Magneto were incredibly goofy.
A Versus on Colossus would be fun. There's a toybiz version of him that is practically a myth at this point cuz I haven't seen any reviewer mention/bring them up for comparisons.
