This folds up relatively small and extends out to a good length. ru-vid.comUgkxphFK7ETiDP5G4IGsNcg7vbASDp_YfDpI I would warn that while it folds down to a convenient size, it's still a bit too large to fit into my tacklebox, which I think is a pretty "normal" size. I guess a hardcore fisherman might have a hardcore box that's larger than mine, but for the typical once-a-year fisherman like me, it will have to be carried outside the box.
I went with a $20 - 6000 yard spool of 10lb test Cabela's line about 6 years ago and I've still got plenty left. Not a single line breakage nor knot slip ever. A properly set drag and 9" leader keep even musky from pulling free. Of course, they don't make the line any more so I'll probably switch to the Bass Pro brand line in another 6 years when I run out...biggest bang for the buck. It's pretty hard to beat getting enough line for 50-60 reels for $20 (including sales tax) and re-spooling for 33 cents/reel with line that just plain works very well.
THAT... was by far the, most Scientific, TRUE test (without all the engineering scientific test equipment) that could possibly be ran .... fantastic job. And I'm a new subscriber now. The biggest reason for subbing.... a. You speak clearly. b. You don't do your clips in a garage FULL of shit. c. you get right to it, with out telling us "how great and fabulous YOU are!" d. Great lighting and succinct description of exactly what and why you are doing, what you are doing. e. did I mention that you speak clearly? Thx for your efforts. Nick in Redfield Arkansas.
I use the Berkley vanish currently but will definitely switch to the Bass Pro line. I'm very price sensitive and this fits in my budget real well. Thanks for the video.
Vanish is the worst on the market! It gets extremely brittle in cold water and has no abrasion resistance whatsoever! Bass pro xps and seguar sts...the orange label are the same line! And also the best I've found.....4lb holds 12 to 15 lb. Steelhead in 33 degree water
@@briangillman735 This explains why I have to retie quite often. My initial knots are great but after an hour or so they seemed to break easily. I usually retied after every 3rd or 4th fish. I was really baffled but your post clears that up. Thanks.
I tried Vanish too but have switched back to Yozuri Hybrid, it doesn't snap on cast, stretches less and doesn't break as easy when you just can't get the lure loose.
Really great abrasion resistance and though I've never put the Big Game line ru-vid.comUgkxQ4x31pJVpClzhxzNFeILZYTW7Xbs7ZIF (any poundage) through an official test it always seems to break well above rated poundage. This line stretches a very good amount before it breaks and does well in saltwater too. Not the best line for a spinning reel in my opinion, especially if you're planning on using it for lures only due to it having a bit of memory but still a great line whether filling a spool, using as top shot or strictly for leader line. I've bought a bunch of Big game line in the past and plan on continuing to do so in the future.
Cool tests, it's great to see P-Line tactical coming out on top i've been using it for years now after trying a lot of different lines. The abrazx sucks, i've always had issues of it getting a kink somewhere along the line and it would break on me. However, i think you could have also measured "line memory" as that is a huge factor when considering how much you want to pay for line. I've tried the bass pro line (the 17#) and the memory was so bad that a $250 reel casted and felt like a piece of garbage. The bass pro line always wanted to birds nest on me and i ended up cutting it off not long after. The thicker line definitely helps with abrasion, but memory is definitely increased because of it. P-Line did a great job balancing those factors out, i never feel like i get bad memory out of that line. I also use line conditioner on my fluorocarbon to help reduce it. Great video though, fuck abrazx.
I love my seaguar. I never had an issue with abrasion even while fishing for salmon in the streams. But p line looks like a great line for bass fishing. I might have to give it a whirl
Did a tensile strength test for materials science class, how I did it was WRAPing 5-6 times around 3” pvc pipe then going up and around a scale with a 1” rod on it. Then went back down and around the pvc 5-6 times. The scale was hooked to a winch. Got very consistent results.
The diameter of the line is clearly what determines it's abrasion abilities and that goes for all types of line . I prefer a smaller diameter of line because it is less affected by current flow ; large diameter fishing line will blow out of a drift much faster than small diameter line every time. Good line should always break at the knot is the best test that you want to do when comparing different brands of fishing line.
The most important data point in this test is the number of runs. Obviously the statistical significance increases with sample size but from this sample size of two the range of the PLINE (21.5) brings into question the process control of manufacturing and or in raw materials! Regardless I’ll be using the Bass Pro product as my livelihood doesn’t rely on fishing line performance so I’ll save the cash! Thanks for taking the time to run your test, it was another great example that the price alone doesn’t guarantee you’re getting a better product!
I for one think you did a fantastic job with the tests 👏 I do beleive you could pull off an accurate tensile strength test by using your dowels and wrapping the line several times thus using no knots whatsoever. Fashioning one of the dowels to accommodate a scale could be tricky yet I think you could figure it out. Just a thought. Thanks for the informative video 👊😎
I use, almost exclusively, Seagar Invisx and never have had an issue with line breaking. I use it because it lays on the reel spools so much better than P Line or any other I have tried. By laying on the spool better I get improved casting distance and no backlashing. But t each their own.
Definitely interesting results.. I’ve ran seaguar for years and never had a single issue with it. I just like the fact that especially the Invizx is really supple and casts well, I don’t feel pline is as supple, but was interesting to see that abrasion test!
Fish with p-line when its cold. I use to use p-line but the slinky affect was more then I could handle. I use seaguar line on every worm and jig rod I got. But saying all that to say this, I’m going to get me some Bass Pro line next time I go. Great review, thanks for opening my eyes.
I still didn't finish to watch the video, I am at 4:23 just before the abrasion test, but I think that a proper abrasion comparison can be done mainly if the lines have the same diameter. The pound test to diameter ratio is mainly an indication of the quality of the material when subject to tension, although it obviously plays a minor role in abrasion as well. Another thing that can change the results is that almost always, cheap products cheat on diameter by declaring it much smaller than it actually is, whilst expensive products don't
I’ve been fishing fresh and saltwater for over 40 years now… the only line I use anymore is Izorline XXX copolymer. It is very low visibility, limp, thin diameter, very low memory, neutrally buoyant, incredible knot strength, strong as hell and the best part… cheap$. I get mine on Tackle Warehouse.
Been using seaguar for years and occasionally lose a lot of bass, snapping when I set the hook re-tieing after a decent sized fish, recently changed to pline after I snapped my jig on a 4pb fish and I haven’t snapped yet, I bet my money in the beginning of your video that pline would win and not surprised. Awesome video and thank you for confirming my experience!
*This was my first time using Braided line and I was happy with the product **enjoyable.fishing** recommend it's held up well and I have no complaints. Would buy again.*
Line lb. ratings by companies are inconsistent (unless they are a class rated line that is guaranteed to break at its stated rating. Even then, when registering your catch for the record books, they will test the line you used to verify its rating)... Instead test using the same diameters for the best comparisons. Also verify the diameter to be sure it is as stated on the box (there can be a high degree of variance from spool to spool). Glad you are doing this... there are a lot of accepted "truths" out there that need to be put to the test to see if they hold up.
Great vid the only thing I would suggest in the future is to use a fish tank with distilled water to do a viability test. It will give the factor of the most clear water situation where line viability matters the most. Other then that great job
I do a lot of night fishing here in Arizona during the summer so I use I line CXX in fluorescent as it's visible with a black light. I've been very happy with it.
@Cal Allen I bought a spool of 30lb Momoi floro a few years ago that I sent back to B.P. for a refund. I hooked into a Grouper that broke my leader line. A Guy next to me brought up a short Grouper with a leader hanging out of its mouth. He asked me if this was my leader - and it was!!! It did Not break at the knots, but the line itself! I switched over to Seaguar and I have had No issues so far. I have out fished everyone on the boat who was using a mono leader. Sometimes stealth is necessary over abrasion resistance. Just saying from my experiences.
Thank you for conducted test. I for one can vouch for PLINE, have used the older version, blue box, and found that the best Fluorocarbon ever tried . WORST Fluorocarbon line I've ever experienced was actually "Seaguar Premium"! Which performed way worse than a mono line half its lbs! STERN %100 Fluorocarbon, to my opinion, was decent as well, but PLINE hands down, all day.
Hi there, FYI, I have some info. The Bass Pro Shop line is made by Seaguar. Herter's brand ammunition is also a Bass Pro Shop/Cabela's product made by Winchester. Right now a 50 round box of 9mm Herters is $17.99 and Winchester is $20.99. Same stuff
Just found your channel and immediately thought of Project Farm. He has made a business of comparing products. You too could go huge comparing everything from fishing rods, reels, lures, terminal tackle, and even clothing.
This is true.I made a simple knot (clinch knot) and i tested 3 fluorocarbon seaguar fxr 0.57mm 28e-30m),savage hard fluoro 0.55mm (30e-50m) and a cheap fluoro platil ghost 60mm(15e-200m).Seaguar brakes at 7kg,savage at 17k,platil ghost at 15kg..So my have to go fluoroleader at shore jigging tecnhique is savage..
Underwater visibility is pretty much the same as your experiment….the sunlight is penetrating the water from above, or at a top down angle, making all four lines invisible…I use P Line Tactical for Winter Steelhead fishing, bait drifting and float/jig fishing, in a river loaded with wood (trees, stumps, willows and logs) and have no complaints…
Punch and Judy Go Fishing. Loved the show (and the info!) but your production really wants for wine-colored velvet curtains on the tank that you can part to build tension while introducing Act I.
For the abrasion test results: I think the best way to rank would be by the lowest of the trials and/or least variability between the trials. It's kind of like a chain - it breaks at the strength of the weakest link. You don't know which section of the line will be the one abrading in the field. I guess this is only true if you think the variability is in the line. If the variability is in the test procedure (e.g. which part of the sandpaper was it on, how fast you rubbed, etc.), then max seems to make sense. I'm not sure how to determine where the variability is. In any event, if many trials were performed and one line had much less variability, I would suspect the line was more variable than the test procedure.
Would like to see if colored fluoros are still invisible. Also a good test for memory could be wrap 10 yards or so around a pen, then unwind it and show results. Best memory should hold out almost straight like a good limp braid will.
Seaguar makes Basspro Fluoro carbon, if your ever in the store look at the bps saltwater leader Fluoro spools it says seaguar,,, but for marketing some reason it’s not listed on the excel boxes …. But it’s great line Former employee
So I recently found out that the Bass Pro Excel is the exact same as the Seaguar Red Lable. Next time you can see them both, hold them side by side and compare. They are identical!! Just so you all know.
Naah there Diameter is exactly the same. I use 15 in red label and its .013 so in the excel. You call it red label in your video but its abrazx different line and diameter. Great video though 👍
@@DishesandFishes I get that but actual red label is the same diameter as the excel. Seaguar abrazx the line you use in your video isnt the same line lol. Red label=bass pro excel. Think your confused. Seaguar Abrazx the line in your video isnt the same as seaguar red label.
Seaguard is the only line I use. They make their own resins in house no third parties. Never had an issue or break off fish. Started as a Saltwater use for rockfish but now it's in my freshwater arsenal 100%.
There was something I saw a while ago about how they measure the breaking strength and such in the Japanese market versus the American market. The seaguar is a Japanese line. I believe that’s why there is descrepencies in the data for the line diameter and breaking strength etc.
This was really great actually. I love these. I've literally been buying a brand name. Honestly makes me a little upset. You got a new subscriber my friend
It is important to note that there is no industry standard as far as labeling line breaking strengths. Meaning, a company may label a line as 10lb test, when it will actually break at 15lb. There is another video on youtube of a Seagaur expert explaining this, noting that the only measure of comparison should be line diameter. I'd like to see another test with lines of similar diameter are compared. Also, line memory should be taken into consideration. I love P-Line for fishing around docks and heavy structure, but MAN does it have some memory. You would literally have to stretch the line out before you could fish.
I was in Bass Pro a few months ago, and I heard one of the employees say that the Bass Pro brand was made for them by Seaguar, and that it was the exact same line as one of the Seaguar lines. He said the box color, but I can't remember.
Makes perfect sense to me. ALL the big stores get their "store brand" of everything, from a manufacturer.... from tomatoes in a can, chips in a bag, or line on a spool. People need to quit poopooing store brands.... listen, Walmart makes one thing and one thing only ...... $$$ MONEY$$$ !
That makes sense. There's only something like 3 or 4 manufacturers of all fluorocarbon lines and Seaguar is one of them. P-Line is not so they're getting their lines from someone else. Not sure which though.
I’m confused did you use Seaguar Red Label or Abrazx? Because they are not the most expensive Seaguar lines. Thanks for the video. You should do a premium version and do Seaguar Tatsu, Sunline Shooter, Vicious Toro & Daiwa Samurai Flouro
I just bought a favorite balance casting reel for my lews hank parker 7'0" rod and i bought berkley vanish in 12# test simply because that was the only fluro line there. I was so excited to try the new reel out and it snowed 8 inches overnight into this morning. My weather channel said it would be a dusting and up to 1 inch accumulation in some areas!
Seaguar is good line, even the cheap red label is good for a budget fisherman. Pline is also good. Berkley vanish is crap, but the Berkley 100% is pretty good. I've never used BPS fluoro before. Sunline sniper is what I use most. I have also been very pleased with vicious pro elite, Seaguar invizx and Sunline assassin
For control purposes… you should use a fresh sheet of sandpaper for each line. If you wear down the grit it will affect results. But I’m probably going to go P-line
I think, keyword I think..... That your abrasion test is flawed. By going perpendicular to the sandpaper your cutting into it, so the more the line goes over it the less it's hitting the sandpaper and is just digging a grove into it and then sliding in the (probably smooth) groove that it created. Alternatively you could suspend the lines vertically under load (5-10 lbs) and then rub the sandpaper again at a 90 degree angle to keep the pressure the same. This would actually have it rubbing on the paper no matter what.
I can't even see the fishing line when it's in my hands so yeah lol I use berkly vanish and never had a problem. Only line I have ever had a problem with is the trilen mono
Have used Vanish since it came out...the reg not the gold and fishing inshore salt which is all rocks all the time. Had to cut it free many more times then it ever broke off.
I've had Seagar snap on me more than once, so this makes sense to me. As for the price comparison, did all the spools have the same amount of line? I'm sure you thought of that, lil smartie. Great vid.
Bass Pro line is more consistent. Berkley Vanish was absolutely horrible I lost some expensive crankbaits just reeling them back to the boat the line absolutely shredded in my guides. Bass Pro Shop line I've been using for a year has never let me down yet!!!
Thank You ! I wish you would test the new Seaguar 101 Basix fluorocarbon, $10 for 200 YRDS, Tatical Bassin liked it on there new product review video. If you happen to do a weight test make sure you test the line horizonatly with at least 6 feet of line. A line memory test would be great too.
I love the video it was very informative and entertaining, but I would love to see you do this agin with more brands like yozuri or even try the hated Googan
Knots will break above water quicker than below...when does a knot while fishing break above water, maybe when a tarpon jumps or other fish....very rare.
I've been fishing Pline on all my rods for years now for the price you can't beat the quality or the strength year after year the knots still stay strong
