I agree that it's a good source for info. On the subject of batteries, though, the issue most important to me is how long they last. A few decades ago (yes, I'm that old) I didn't have to worry so much about coming back from a 2 week vacation to a dead battery. The last three vacations, I did. Why? It seems we now have to have a compact Li-ion or supercap jump starter. In addition, it seems the 3 year warranty is extremely precise, with batteries turning to crap right on the day, or thereabouts.

Time to load test your battery,( this is cheap & will tell you if its time to replace it).. I used to be in the repair business & it's a false savings after a battery with low voltage shortens or even destroys your alternator or starter . It's much the same as putting an electric lawn mower at the end of a long skinny underrated extension cord .The motor struggles under low voltage & gets too hot..Ditto with the car starter, & the alternator will charge all the time trying to bring the voltage up to where sensitive computer controls can function properly.

Walmart's batteries are made by Johnson Controls. They're good. Exide and JC are the biggest manufacturers and they pretty much make up the entire market for lead-acid.
@ericbaskin899
@ericbaskin899 Год назад
Man, I remember when a premium 3 year replacement battery was about $50-60 depending on the size. It's insane that now most premium batteries are wayyy over $100 and a good portion of them from AutoZone/Advance Auto Parts are over $200. That's not including the AGM batteries. They are $300 or more now...
@richguitar93
@richguitar93 11 месяцев назад
Auto zone batteries and the rest are Hype. Even Interstate you Gotta watch who your buying it from. With the current administration taking a hatchet to the USA, I found great reliability for the Walmart Ever start battery and just replace it with a free one every 6-8 months because that's about how long they last. If they burn a cell, they replace free for 1 yr of purchase .Cars are junk too these newer ones. CVT transmission's, etc... Just buy a 2016 Toyota and stay away from kia and their inferior metal they use on their crankshaft. If you see green on the posts, you can sand them down and seal them with metal bond or Jb weld at the post seal where the connect and the gasses don't release and the batteries will last forever.
@meme5887
@meme5887 11 месяцев назад
If you notice, the everstart has a 5yr warranty. The current pics on Walmart show them with a 3yr warranty! Granted those are pics, not the actual product. But I'm assuming they're up to date since the warranty period dropped... Just like everything else rising/decreasing to the benefit of companies.
@eb0800
@eb0800 11 месяцев назад
@@meme5887The 3 year warranty is the free replacement period. No battery, with the exception of the platinum AGM batteries, has a free replacement period longer than 3 years. Depending on what quality level EverStart battery you are buying that 5 year warranty was for anywhere from 4 to 2 years of pro-rated warranty. Not a free replacement period.

Of course we are lucky that there are individuals that do great (or at least good) financially already, because otherwise it's quite easy for corporations/companies to, literally, buy people... Sorry PF, the real battery testing is a real world atmosphere. Interstate batteries are very good in real world conditions. Walmart batteries are not worth it. Napa gold went bad for me in 2 years. You need to remember that dust on the batteries will drain it. Keep your batteries clean. I actually put 1” styrofoam underneath my 4 AGM batteries in my Peterbilt and now up to 4 years on them. Plus they power my refrigerator. Vibration can be a killer on batteries and the heat is harder on them than the cold for longevity. I run Duracell on my wheel horse rider and my Allis Chalmers CA tractor with very good results so far.

@@runningwithshemp I just replaced the Walmart battery in Hyundai elantra in south florida after 7yrs not dead but wearing out.... did all sorts of research before and was looking at something else before looking at the battery that was there already... which I did buy to replace the factory one that died after 3yrs. I've been getting costco batteries for my pathfinder, town car, lesabre and others.... last ones I've needed I bought at Costco for town car and dies less than a year - got "free" replacement - had to pay for the now more expensive difference.... died in just over a year got another one free w/ complaint died in less than a year..... they were grumpy about it each time and basically told me to eff off. before that in the 25 I think years I've bought batteries at Costco I had ONE die in the warranty - which used to be decent - period. to be UNFAIR - my local Costcos management SUCKS! Their idea of "if you are ever unsatisfied" means they expect 30-90days maximum to decide if you are satisfied - told that specifically by managers and I did not abuse the returns... Who they are and who they are to their audience is too important and took too much to achieve. Now in numbers 1/165th of the success...the friends and the meaning of my friends who watch far out-weigh this of course. Most RU-vidrs with his success would have "sold out" from possibly your point of view, but not from mine. I have plenty of acquaintances in RU-vidrs online who have had sponsors over the years while still chiefly running their "own content" and I've found them to stay upstanding despite doing what I suspect you are calling "selling out". True sell outs...they can't keep making videos. It destroys them. Many have spoken about it with the top "How-to RU-vid", experts in whom I appreciate like Tim Schmoyer and Roberto Blake. All the same, it wouldn't feel right, but I think the batteries would be fine. He never started engines with them. Now that would be harsh. Also, deep drains damage batteries. He never did that. Did you know that there is a small break in for batteries before they fully perform? If he stressed them more they'd show up with even MORE cold cranking amps on their tests. At least that's how my preferred battery brands behave. I don't know who makes batteries for GM for example, but after pushing them on a car with more issues than just the bad battery they have had, I've seen them turn out with an extra 200 cold cranking AMPS after 2 weeks of use from a customer.

@@cmdrdarwin3682 , my reasons are two fold. 1. Walmart Corp. has consistantly partnered with manufacturers and distributors to have lower quality (thus cheaper) products that resemble the manufacturers higher quality offerings. For example, a $1,000 Sony TV anywhere else has 4 HDMI, Dolby Atmos, 4K, etc. At Walmart they will have the same TV body, but slightly different internals. Maybe only 2 HDMI, no Dolby, 4K upscaling instead of native, etc. and they sell it for $699. You think you are saving money because it is marketed like the $1000 set, but in fact is a completely different TV. 2. The way they have treated their workers is appalling. Not just working to keep unions out (pretty common thing for employers to do), but to go into small towns, drive away the small businesses, and then hire the now unemployed townspeople at minimum wage or just above and severely limit any growth. They are basically a parasite on small towns.

Unless you're part of the 1%, saving $40 dollars for the same battery simply feels good and responsible. :) Another thank you sir for your efforts in providing this valuable information. @veryslyfox Perhaps his testing could gave been more thorough, but honestly his is the first real world battery review I've seen by anyone. Personally I'd say he took a more thorough approach than most people would ever do, And I find it interesting that the cheaper batteries did at least as well as ones that were $40 more, if not better. I've used Everstart batteries exclusively for 10yrs, never had a problem. And since I as well as my technician friends, with a combined 100yrs of experience have found most batteries made in the last 20yrs rarely last more than 3yrs, spending $40 for a battery with the same or less performance is just stupid.

I purchased two Everstart batteries for my diesel truck in December of ‘19 right after watching this video. A little over three years on I’ve noticed a little bit of a drop in the cold cranking amps. With my injectors in need of rebuilding/replacing over the past two years she’s been needing a good bit of extra cranking in the cold especially this winter. I’ve been hard on the batteries and have been impressed so far with these Everstart batteries. I’ve only had to boost the truck a handful of times when temps have fallen into the single digits and I’ve forgotten to plug her in. Truck is a ‘97 5.9 Cummins.

Thanks for your good work. And commitment to excellence. Back in the 70s I lived by Lake in the Woods. ( minnesota ) The fashionable way of thinking, there, was to used a deep cycle marine battery for your car. I don't know if the batteries are still made the same way now. But at that time the deep cycle batteries used solid plates, and that is why thy could be deep cycled. The automotive batteries had a non conductive foam core, with a plating of metal. And that is why thy do not like to be deep cycled. Oh,,, and at that time, the deep cycle marine batteries, were about 30 % cheaper. Thanks for sharing your videos.

oreilly deep cycle batteries are awesome for the money i took the 6 6 volt batteries out of my golfcart and put 3 12 volt oreilly deep cycles in 3 years ago still going strong mind you a golf cart load is extremely hard on those batteries they are not designed for that kind of application but at the time 300 dollars was far cheaper then 800 and hell glad i did it. mind you the cart will last all weekend of constant use it dont last as long as it did with the correct batteries but hey it gets us all weekend long and you can charge it overnight so i cant complain on the whole switch all though i did have to buy 3 cheap batterie tenders but still cheaper then 800 in batteries.

Thank you for educating your viewers as to the manufacturer of the battery. There are only a handful of manufacturers, but sold under numerous names. In my 35+ years in the HD Truck industry, East Penn (Deka) batteries were the best sold. Very very few issues. Also, if the vehicle has multiple batteries, all should be replaced. I'm back! I watched this video on Christmas morning at like 3AM 1 or 2 years ago. Went on vacation with wife and 6 year old daughter 700 miles away to Arkansas (Diamond Crater) and to enjoy the totality of the solar eclipse. A quarter of the way back home, alternator failed. Failed Failed. After many hours of repair attempts on the side of the interstate during heavy rain/thunderstorms and cold, we got towed to a hotel about 20 miles away. Next day, got a ride to walmart and used prior knowledge gained from this video. I used three Everstart walmart batteries to get family and car home. Each battery lasted about an hour and twenty minutes. Calculations were good for the mileage. You're the best, and your knowledge dissemination changes lives. Thank you. (For others, obviously keep AC off, don't use lights, pull DRL relay, and be ready to pull over at any time to swap to the next battery! Fun times! And no, the WD-40 trick did not work on the alternator. Your OTHER video with the gooloo, used that to test alternator after many start attempts, car would run with battery for a few minutes then die again. Started car without battery, and it would instantly die, signalling a total alternator failure. Got a good samaritan that pulled over to jump us and do a long charge for 15 minutes. That time the car lasted about 14 minutes before dying and pulling to the side of the road, right back in the same situation again. Battery chain swapping was the solution to get the hell home. Thank you sir!!)
