You can see when Inga did Martha's grilled cheese the scorched butter bits - the skillet was too hot. Not all foods are cooked best at high temperatures - any chef knows this otherwise sous vide would not work.

Agreed! I don’t understand why some always cook their grilled cheese so high. The trick is medium-low and slow. Your cheese turns out way better low and slow and bread doesn’t burn before cheese is melted!

I checked out the Martha Stewart recipe and it specifically says medium heat, which on every stove I've ever used is too high for a grilled cheese, and also does not say to use a lid. So if she's following the recipes super specifically then that explains why she commented on the cheese not melting.

She had the heat up way too high on the pan. So the bread toasted before the heat could melt the cheese. You want like low-medium heat for grilled cheese, and it helps to put a lid on the pan when cooking the first half (before flipping) so it traps enough heat to melt the cheese, then remove the lid to flip the sandwich and cook the other half. You end up with melty cheese and crispy toast :)

Girlllll you gotta cook grilled cheese at a lower temp so the cheese melts. Also don’t use pre-shredded cheese, it’s covered in starch to keep it from sticking together so it’ll never melt properly.

You know a delicious bread sandwich? *Lemme tell you* • Take two pieces of bread, take 1 or 2 eggs and break them into a plate, take the white part away, we need yolk only. • Mix the yolk in the plate and add onions, black pepper and extra spices if u want. Mix it. • take 1 piece of bread and dip it into the plate from both side and put it into a frying pan, quickly put another piece of bread through the same process. • after slight golden, crack an egg and fry it in another frying pan. When it's half fried (not very liquidy). • take the egg and put it between the 2 pieces of bread that you just slightly fried. • (Optional, if u want ur egg liquidy, do not do this) Now fry them all together. • Now it's ready!! Decorate it with your own choice (I don't judge. Put chillie if you want on it or cheese...) - *Recipe by my dad*

The trick to an amazing grilled cheese is to let it sit for a while. You can’t just put it on high. If you do that you get toasted bread with some gross uncooked cheese slices in the center. Put it on low heat and cover it with a lid or some foil. It’ll make a big difference.

I mix softened butter with shredded parmesan and spread it on thick sourdough bread so that when I cook it the parmesan will get brown and crunchy. I use gruyere, sharp and mild cheddar. Then I make some roasted tomatoe bisque. I always eat the meal with a vodka cram.

I usually cover my grilled cheese the first half of cooking them to ensure the cheese melts. Works great. Just a plate works too if you don't wanna bother with a cover.

When I make a grilled cheese I heat up but sides of the bread in the pan so if the first side is like warm or crunchy you put cheese on that side so it can melt better and then you have time for it to melt while the other side is waiting to get crunchy

Grilled cheese cooks best when the stove is on medium/low, so that that everything in the sandwich cooks completely, and not just the bread gets incinerated while the cheese is still solid and not melted !

Non-stick pans heat up really quickly, so place the cheese side on the surface on the pan first before putting the cheese on

How I make mine is I put butter on the pan then the bread and when one side is cooking I put the cheese on the other side when it’s done cooking then I put the other side on so it’s cooked on all four sides I don’t put the cheese before I put it during the bread cooking🤷‍♀️
