To say Warner "takes away" the Swans' premiership window and gives it to Freo (if he goes there) is dumb (especially for a data driven guy like Kingy). He is great of course, but he works perfectly in conjunction with the rest of our mids and small forwards. The idea that the Swans are a one player team is demonstrably dumb
they definitely strong favourites and may well win it. But of course, with 7 other teams come finals anything can happen. Wouldn't be the first time a strong top of the ladder team hasn't won.
Agreed, giving me shades of 2018 Richmond, game plan that people struggle with and big stars standing up. That being said, 2018 Richmond went down in a final so I think it's anyone's game come finals. GWS very nearly almost booked their way to a Granny.

Kane was absolutely right to call out Tex - as soon as the media reports came out about him going to another club all I could think was that this happens every year in recent times. As much spin as Buddy going to the Gold Coast to pressure an extension out of Sydney.

The thing is - Sydney went into cruise control after half time yest and still absolutely dicked them. Sydney in a canter this season. They are the most dominant side I’ve seen in my lifetime and look at what the cats did in 2022. Sydney are better than the cats in 2022..
Not sure if you Sydney can be serious contenders.. they’ve only been able to beat the teams below them but not above them. I think until they do that’s when Sydney can be considered top contenders.
I dont remember a year with a more dominant team than the Swans. They're so far ahead its very hard to think of a team that can get withing 30 points of them. They stay healthy no one gets close. Its a very long season though. Injuries to any of the big four (have to include Grundy now) and things could change. The other element that could creep in is complacency. They're still a very young group so its not that hard to imagine.
The Hawks in 1988, The Blues in 1995, the Bombers in 1985, the Hawks in 2013, 2014 and ,2015. The Bombers in 2000. North in 1996. There have been quite a few sides who've dominated seasons amd finals.
The romance of a one club player is great, but just tell me which club you associate Sam Mitchell, Dermott Brereton, Tony Modra, Doug Hawkins, etc with. Going for a year (or maybe even two) makes no difference
I'll tell you one player who pkayed his 390th at another club but is akways a Hawthorn player.....Jordan Lewis. I wish we could go back in time and keep Jordie so he played his 300th at the Hawks. I doubt Mitchell Lewus wilk ever play 150 games at Hawthorn. He hasn't even put together a full season in seven seasons with the Hawks. A massive disppointment.
As a Swans supporter I would hate to see Warner leave, but if he helps the Club win a flag then he has my blessing. Three 1st round picks from Freo might not be a bad way to keep the Swans competitive for the next decade
lol they wont give 3 for him ! They would have a decent idea from his brother what he is thinking. They might offer 1 top 10 pick and a couple of 2nd or 3rd rounders. Then Syd need to think hard take that or he walks next year when a free agent for less. But maybe he doesn't want to go :)

He's definitely worth more than 1st and 2nd rounders given his age and status in the top 5 players in the game right now. Restricted free agent so even if he walks Swans get some compensation. Like I said he has my blessing if he helps us win the flag

@@cmadelaide56not really, they have paid him well below average wages, and in a roundabout way he ended being a swap for Jaiden Stephenson who struggles to get a game at North Melbourne, so not like Melbourne lost any amazing talent from the draft. It was well worth a risk and he will be gone at the end of this year.
Agree with kingy on the tex issue. Sydney or collongwood could both take a punt on a player like that with minimal downside. Takes a key defender away from their opponents structure
At the smaller SCG on the end of Guilden, Heeney, Campbell etc he would be awesome - as long as everyone is aware it’s a 1 year option, no way he is playing any decent AFL footy in 2026 if at all.
On the Walker focus, in Buddy's last 3 years, he could barely kick 50m. He couldn't run, he barely ever took the marks he used to take. He was never really a very good overhead mark but Tex is. The soft tissue vulnerability is a real issue at that age.
Exactly, if buddy kicked 76 goals the year before everyone would be telling him have a crack again once he deals w his injury. I get tex is nearly 35 but he doesn’t need much to kick 1/2 a game in a good team
@zaydevans2077 exactly but as much as I loved Buddy & I'm a Swans supporter, I felt he stayed to long. The one thing he offered to the others was how he did the thing he did but his last couple of years he just slowed the front big guys progress.
I think it depends if they win the flag or not. If they win maybe due to the big $ offer he will get and pull to home . They have enough first round picks to offer Syd who might be tempted if they feel he will go sooner rather than later.
That's up to Warner end of next year he can walk as he's out of contact. Or if Sydney are the writing on the wall (or win the flag this year) may look to trade this year and ask for overs.
Ultimately this year will look like the NBA this year. Everyone will try to put up names and teams, but ultimately the team with the best record which dominated the season will win the whole thing.

You keep thinking of Walker at his peak, but you have to weigh it up in 2025 terms, is McLean better than a guy only capable body wise of 10-11 games per year and struggling around the ground mobility wise, which is almost certainly where a 35 year old Tex will be next year.

Its literally 14 games where he’s had an on and off back, last year was Taylor’s peak he kicked 76 goals, so its not hard to think of him in his peak as the last time he played without a back injury, last year, he was an all Australian full forward. I think if you asked 99% of clubs “if you could pick up a forward who kicked 76 goals last year for free, last person in the club first person out if it doesn’t work, would you take that?” They all would. That’s my point. I know 2025 tex won’t be 76 goals 2023 tex, but 35/40 as a third forward? Quite possible
Kingy has given Cornes the correct accountability. Forecast a winner within a certain window to a given accuracy. Spot on. If any expert knows their game Rule 1 is know yourself know the opposition. If you know neither you got no hope. Now I want to see a statistic put on all the coaches and sub coaches to forecasts results pre game and be measured against post game. If you know your art and done your study you should be accurate. Otherwise you will end up like Ken Hinkley of Port adel of nothing more than 12 yrs of "next week she'll be right" Get your stat's master on tues to get something going. Otherwise coaches have no accountability if they think the playing group is no good then use that to forecast in advance and tell everyone in advance youl loose. Don't just complain post match the team isn't good enough. Again like Port adels Ken we need more accuracy and less Kens
I feel like Kane is holding onto the past when he started and turned the club around, which he did. But the last 2 or 3 years King is right it is meandering. They need a fresh voice, otherwise interstate talent will just leave.
Totally agree about DK. His broadening of Kane's question really tore up the original question. I never liked him as a player, I'm not a Roo fan, but his ability to disassemble the game flow is unmatched. He describes it in a way that is manageable for the lowly amongst us, meaning myself. His insight into what he's espousing shows to me an equivalent understanding that comes from Buckley. It may not be the same specifically but I wonder if he has ever considered coaching? Bucks's views are also something I like to hear. Browny & most of the others are in a different league to those 2. Kane is better than the others, but Kingy & Bucks are the real deal. Btw, David was a great player as of course was Bucks.

Depends - if they lose Logan McDonald and draft a high end young key forward, Walker becomes a good option for just a year while that kid develops (and he was born in NSW lol). If McDonald stays he probably is not needed.

As a bombers supporter, we are not a contender this year. We have many issues and players out of form to be a contender. I think if we can keep this upward trajectory then I'm very bullish on us being a contender next year.
