Separating out the specific parts and tools for each of the seven step assembly process steps was brilliant on the part of the manufacturer. For the price, I am impressed at how sturdy this ru-vid.comUgkxvObaTzoHoHQLL4lHbJQmExHqsrZQm-f7 unit is and it does go together easily. Well, I was puzzled at first at Step 5 and maybe the instructions should mention that rail #62 needs to be tilted upwards a little to get the rail to fit into the main part #44. I like it that the rower can be stored vertically in a really small amount of space, but be forewarned that this rower is top heavy and for safety you'll need at least two bungee cords to keep the unit upright, attaching them to something; in my case to a third garage door. I have had this unit only a short time, and I will post an update once I've had it for a year. As for working your legs, I have to admit that I'm mainly rowing for upper body strength and I use other forms of exercise for leg strength (like walking fast, biking, or using a trampoline. But if you pull as far forward as possible, then you can give preference to your legs for the first 4 feet or so of travel. I also admit to not taking the two electronic connectors apart at Step 7. I simply inserted the two batteries while the other parts remained connected. By the way, there is plenty of resistance here, even in the lowest resistance settings. Kudos to Sunny Health & Fitness !

Something to consider from the perspective from someone either past the age of 30 or maybe has injuries to consider. I own the rower, the Echo bike, and the ski erg. I love incorporating them into circuit training or metcons together. However, In my opinion, none of these devices is designed to be used for long periods without interruption. My rower would kill my back, the ski erg would kill my shoulders, and the echo bike would just kill me in general. Interval training yes, using for 45 minutes non-stop, no. If you only have money for one and you want to be able to ride something for really long periods of time or zone out watching netflix, the Bike erg is the way to go (ironic, since that's the only one I don't own). I have a Wahoo Kickr snap that I use with zwift and my actual bike for indoor riding. They are all great machines tho, you will not lose on a concept 2 piece of equipment.

I use all 3 at the gym, and a must have is a spin bike. Best cardio and I don't know why you think its about sitting. Stand up and work it. You can do a lot with it, superb cardio, but it's not super great for core. The rowing machine, great as well, but your feet are tied down. I think the skierg is way under-appreciated. Very importantly, this is the one machine you are actually working from a self-supported standing position. That means your whole body is involved! This is invaluable! That fact seems to be overlooked so often. Great for leg conditioning, quads, calves, ankles and balance. You can use this to focus on arms during the pull down, or you can focus on the abdominal crunch. Every movement back up works your quads. You can do this as almost all quads. You can do this balancing on one leg. You can alternate pulling one leg up during the crunch. After I used the skierg for about a couple of weeks I had a much stronger back, abs, and more a flexible spine, and there was a cardio benefit. I do a lot of mountaineering backpacking...the skierg is a very similar movement to climbing while using hiking poles. On my last trip my brother asked why I could climb so fast...I told him the skierg (plus the spin bike).

Variety is the spice of life. I have owned the rower since 2008 and just picked up a bike erg over Covid. Both are good for their own reasons. I am a MT Biker so in the off season I really enjoy the soothing, punishing nature of the rower to change things up. Both are tremendous! I think everyone should row, it seems like it is just a better overall workout.

I want to help improve my upper body strength and put bit more muscles on my arms - is that achievable with a rower?
@geraldriley2503
@geraldriley2503 2 года назад
From my reading, the workload on the rower is 70% legs, 20% back and 10% arms. For the full power beginning of the stroke, your hands on hooks and your arms are shanks for the hooks. There is really no load on them until the end of the drive when you use the arms to arrest the inertial energy of your body moving backwards. So, from my experience, I would not recommend depending on the rower to build muscle mass. From that you need to work the iron.

@@CSchaef02 the dynamic just forces you to work a bit more abdominals. It's the same as using a regular c2 on 'slides' (they sell these, takes up a lot of floor space), or you could also use a regular c2 with feet out of the straps. For the average person, it's not really worth getting the dynamic (which I think also does not break down into 2 lighter weight parts).

@GroovesAndLands
@GroovesAndLands 4 года назад
I read a highly technical article (PDF form, not hard to find on the interwebz) that characterized the differences between the model D against the model E. Bottom line was the overall amount of work/force/drive speed/etc/etc was very, very similar. They did conclude the model E, for any given "drag factor" was actually slightly easier to row. So - if you really wanna compare apples to apples against tens of thousands of other rowing athletes out there, the model D is your only choice. Bottom line, after reading the article, I could see no advantage to the dynamic model E. Of course, your mileage may vary.
@DarkHorseRowing

If you are rowing on water too, and consider buying a rowin machine, go for a dynamic. The standard rower teaches bad technique in my opinion. why? Because in the end if you pull hard enough, you'll still pull great numbers. Which is not a matter if you want a good workout. While on a dynamic C2, that strategy won't get you nowhere. If you want to buy one, I strongly recommend trying one first. If you never have been taught to row, you hardly will be able to enjoy the dynamic. And I mean it. It is not for fitness enthusiasts, it's meant for rowers. That's no joke. If you want to improve your technique on water, any dynamic will do a better job than the fixed versions. Many will disagree and say, it's actually not that good, aso ...the reason is: they are not able to row it properly.

Is it correct to say that for HIIT the bike is the better option? I have found that (at least for me) rowing (which I love) it is harder to attain very high intensity/heart rate in a short interval of time compared to cycling. Is this just me? I suspect the "negative" part when rowing (sliding forward) acts as a little "rest" occasion and prevents attaining similarly high intensity.
@cvb5092
@cvb5092 3 года назад
As a (on the water) rower and occasional cyclist maybe my opinion can be helpful. The rowing motion is the most technical of the two, that is what might make it harder to put al lot of effort in the workouts. However, when you are experienced with the rowing motion I can say, without a shadow of a doubt, that extreme intense workouts can be done. I would even argue to a higher intensity than the bike because it incorporates more muscles. This in turn means that the heart and lungs need to work harder. That is why I always found that the cardiovasculair limit was quicker reached on the rowing machine than on the cycling machine.

Check the flywheel drag. It apparently makes a big difference. If you set it too high you can quite easily injure yourself. Most experienced coaches recommend the bar is set at between 3 and 5. Considering it goes up to 10 that leaves a lot of leeway for going too hard
@cvb5092
@cvb5092 3 года назад
@@roberttelford745 yes you are correct, the flywheel makes a huge difference. It should be set to the setting that most closely resembles the pressure you feel on the blades when rowing in the boat. Remember that these machines were first develop for on the water rowers to practice when the weather did not allow for it (frozen river etc.). On the concept2 this is adjusted in the menu with ‘display drag factor’ for most women this should be around 110, for most men around 120. What the setting is on the flywheel is mostly irrelevant since that varies as the machine experiences more wear. Resistance should me measured through the drag factor, not with the numbers displayed on the flywheel!

In fact, the better the cyclist (read WorldTour riders), the more discrepancy between pushing down (more) and pulling up (less). “Pedaling in circles” is a myth. 2. You’re going to injure yourself. Not your hamstrings but the hip flexors.

I have the rower and skierg - would love the bike but cost is an issue with these machines. They cost a fortune though worth it. Here's a left-field idea. I'm no engineer but would it be possible in theory to combine ALL 3 machines in one??!! Think about it for a second...they all share ONE fly wheel. The Skierg sits in the middle, the bikeerg is to the right at 90 degrees, and the rower to the left at 90 degrees. Sounds laughable I know but such a hybrid would bring the cost down massively...surely. I'd buy one!!

But you talked cost, the machine would cost 3x as much as they do now. Reliability would be my concern with all the moving pieces.

@@MattZiggy It would only require 1 fly wheel rather than 3 - so hopefully would be cheaper. I'd pay £2k for a combo machine rather than best part of £3k for separates. It's a crazy idea and will never see the light of day - I just wondered if Im the only person this ever occurred to?

@@nickmitchelltv This is true. It would be nice for people who have tight living quarters too.

Great idea! It would go something like this....Row, remove cable, remove pin from flywheel, swivel flywheel to next machine; attach pin, attach cable, cycle; remove cable, remove pin, swivel to next machine. DONE! Does that sound about right?

Great option for the rower. I have never seen a Ski or Bikerg used.

@@dalehall-bowden1083 The rower retains value so I looked at used but the savings didn’t make much difference and I bought new. Maybe €300 between a well used one and a new one.
