Ja ziju v usa 20 let, a reine vam, Mỹ se v cechach mamę tak dobre! Każdy ma chatu, kazdy lyžuje, tady v psa pokud nejste právník nebo doktor tak je to na dvě věci. A jestli si myslíte ze mate zaplacenou mateřskou...hahahaha ne.
K tomu zdravotnictví je nutno zmínit, že máme jedny z nejkratších dojezdových časů sanitek na světě. To málokdo ví, a přesto je to taky slušný ukazatel kvality života.
Přijede pro vás sanitka do 15 minut a pak s vámi dvě hodiny krouží po Praze, protože mají všude plno. A najít si zubaře a nebo doktora je umění. Vy budete polit, že jo?
@@DreamPrague Other important point - mainly in small cities and villages, when you need repair water, electricity, heating, to have wood to fireplace, reinstall computer etc. the pub is the best place where you can will find help and the contacts to right local people.... with recommendation and personal references!!! Unfortunately in Prague it is not working ... only on limited level.

I lived 11 years in NYC and I agree with each and every word you said. America is great for young, healthy, hard working people who want to save money and come back to Czechia.

I came to LA from Prague, well, not really young (age 40) and worked really hard for 5 years 2 corporate jobs, almost burned out from all the working, but I saved good money and this fall I am coming back to Prague to buy apartment and live there happily ever after:-) I cannot imagine living in LA any longer and I honestly have no idea, how people do it? It's not a very good life, to be honest.
I've been living in the Czech Republic for nine years and I'm pretty satisfied here. It's safe, less of a rat race, free education and universal health care. You're pretty spot on about everything in your video. Life is much simpler here. I can walk or take a bus to work. I have no car and don't want one because the public transportation is so awesome. It feels good not having to worry about going to the doctor because the insurance covers everything. The copay is almost nothing and there isn't any deductible bullshit. If someone loses their job for whatever reason, the employment office provides the health insurance. U.S, is a great country if you have lots of money. Here in the Czech Republic, you don't need to have lots of money to feel secure. I have a permanent residence permit and I plan on applying for citizenship. Love the U.S. but I can't live there.
@Erwin Lii I dont wanna discredit her experience but its not bad. Especially in Prague. Probably not as good as Germany but its cool. I live in Pilsen and know a couple of black people living here, and they have no problems.

I’ve lived in a small village in the Czech Republic for two years now and I totally agree with you. I am a retired educator who was offered an unexpected opportunity to unretire and teach here. Teaching here has been an amazing capstone to my career, but living here has been the greatest gift I have ever received! Yes, family is back in the States, including my husband, so about every 6 months I would head back, for about a month to see family and take care of things I needed to do there. Unfortunately, Covid is bringing my time here to a close sooner than I had expected. I don’t know if this will permanently end my time here or just close this current chapter. Quality of life is definitely better here than in the US. Even my US doctors agree. I am healthier and happier living here than I was at home. When I leave, my heart will remain here.
As a Czech person I have to say that it is beautiful to read those words from someone who is not Czech, who came here and fell in love with our country. You are always welcome here, I hope that you will be able to stay here a bit longer and also bring your family for visit. 🙂

Myslím, že se máme úžasně a nemusíme koukat k sousedovi a kopírovat ho. Peníze nejsou všechno. Hlavně spokojený život prožitý s rodinou a přáteli, nejlépe ve svém, třeba i starém baráčku. Přál bych si, aby lidi spolu více drželi... Od Američanky hřejivá slova a možná i trochu překvapivá. Doufám, že si ještě dlouho budete s manželem říkat - nejlepší život na světě ,-)
@@VladimirLukele Myslím si, že největší problém je v tom, že lidé jsou hrozně rozežraní a neváží si toho, co mají. Nedávno jsem četl knížku o jedné rodině, která po druhé světové válce utekla na Sibiř, protože jí hrozilo vyvraždění od režimu. Asi po třiceti letech je tam zcela náhodou našli novináři a postupem času sepsali knížku o jejich osudech. Naprosto mne dostalo, když popisovali, jak jim jednou přes zimu myši sežraly zásoby obylí nebo pšenice. Prostě něčeho, z čeho dělali mouku. Pro ně to znamenalo smrt, protože lovem se uživit nedokázali. Ale stal se doslova zázrak a v políčku s mrkví jim vyklíčil jeden jediný klas toho obylí. Tak kolem toho klasu postavili malou ohrádku a 24/7 ho hlídali, než vyrostl. Z toho jednoho klasu dostali něco kolem třiceti zrníček a podařilo se jim z toho znova obnovit úrodu. Dokáže si někdo z vás představit, jak v noci hlídáte ten jediný klas a modlíte se ke všem bohům i ďáblům, aby ten klas dozrál, jinak vám umře rodina hlady? Já bych to trochu pozměnil - bylo by dobré jednou za čas zavřít lidi do pořádného koncentráku, aby si opět začali vážit toho, co máme.

Tohle video by měli vidět všichni Češi, kteří pořád vychvaluji Ameriku a shazují Česko. Jak už tu někdo psal - hodně hlavně mladých lidí si myslí, že USA je nejmodernější a nejlepší. Jsou zblbnutí filmy, sociálními sítěmi, youtubery a udělají si úplně jinou představu. Tohle video pro mě byla osvěta. Jsem moc ráda, že někdo konečně udělal názor z druhé strany. 👏
Amerika je prakticky země třetího světa s iPhonama, ale kdokoliv, kdo studuje fyziku, jakýkoliv druh inženýrství (snad kromě civil engineering), ekonomiku, nebo computer science, tak se tam má královsky (počítám average initial salary, pokud se mu podaří získat práce - což je taky docela problém). A ne, nechci do Ameriky, jen podotýkám.

kecenavrtep souhlasím, musíte být mladý a zdravý nebo alespoň zdravý. Je možné že byste pracoval 80 hodin týdně. Zapomeňte na nějaké velké dovolené nebo volna. Ve by vás víc stálo. Všimla jsem si že tady v pátek dopoledne už se to zabalí. A také byste měl dluh za školu. Dnes $40 tisíc ročně je bežné.
I love my life in the Czech Republic and have lived and worked here for 22 years. It's much better here than in California where I also attended university, lived and worked for many years before first moving to Italy (where I lived, worked and raised children for 20 years before moving to the Czech Republic. I have never lived in Prague, though I do go there whenever my friends from the USA, Italy or other parts of Europe come to visit, but I really love my life in Ceske Budejovice. I retired from teaching last December and am busier than ever with my many Czech friends and activities. I recently purchased the apartment that I have lived in for the last ten years and it is my intention (....not now though...) to even bury my bones in this country, right next to my late husband (yes also an American) who died here in 2013. I have also navigated the health care system, first with my husband years ago and also on my own during the last couple of years. I had stage 0 breast cancer, (discovered on a routine check) and had to have a double masectomy and breast reconstuction and did not pay anything.The care I received from my doctors and healthcare team was excellent and I consider these people to also be my friends. I also had a post-cancer three week spa treatment also paid for by my Czech healthcare insurance. I keep telling my friends that THIS country is the BEST place in the world to be. The public transportation is a dream. I am near five grocery stores and vecerkas, not to mention a shopping mall with a Cinestar AND fish ponds and parkss all within a 10 minute walk from my home. I can even see Mouth Klet from my window. So you and your husband are right: BEST LIFE EVER!!!
I live in a small town in South Bohemia. I go to České Budějovice every week. Do you like how there are more and more flowers in the city? How are parks and river banks renovated? Do you also know other South Bohemian cities such as Hluboká nad Vltavou, Český Krumlov, Třeboň, Bechyně, Jindřichův Hradec, Písek, Tábor? South Bohemian castles and chateaux? Šumava Mountains?
Ahoj, Jen! Skvělé video, ráda vidím porovnání života v USA a ČR z pohledu Američanky. Mám pocit, že hodně mladých Čechů si pořád myslí o Americe, že je to nejlepší země na světě. Ale podle mě má každá země své plusy a mínusy. Proto vidím ráda, když někdo ze zámoří chválí naší malou zemičku, která pro ně může být malým rájem na zemi. My Češi jsme si už zvykli na náš systém (doprava, zdravotnictví...), takže je pro nás těžké ocenit tyto věci. Navíc i s naší českou náturou - Češi jsou pořád nespokojení :)

Často sice vidíme někde prostor ke zlepšení. Ale i přes upozorňování odpovědných osob na ty nedostatky se s tím stejně nic neděje. Příklad za doslova všechny prachy budiž stavební zákon a územní plány. :-D

Přesně, žila jsem v Anglii, Itálii a momentálně sedmým rokem v USA (FL Miami) a mužu jen souhlasit. Češi si stále na vše stěžují a vůbec si neuvědomují, jaké výhody mají.
I like to watch these types of videos, where foreigners speak about my country. It gives me different perspective. Points out what is good, bad, different. I think every czech person, who complains about living in our country, should take a look from time to time to realize how good living we have here.
This sooo true, i was born in Czechia and moved to Canada for 8 years and right when I found my first apartment I was so confused that there were no stores nearby that I could walk to get some groceries or cafe. That kind of culture only exist here in Europe, since all small towns and cities have this. and now when I am back in CZ after 8 years I appreciate it so much! Thank you for putting this video together, hopefully it will open eyes to some fellow czechs to appreciate the things we have here!!
The "mixed zoning" of European cities is one of my favorite things about living here. I find Prague's areas to be even more delightful than Vienna, Bucharest, Berlin - I always seem to be able to find what I need within a few blocks.
Wonderful Hippie Not just Europe, no matter where in the Tokyo you are, everything you need is in 10 minute walking distance, and it’s hard to believe but Tokyo with 40 million people is even more walkable than most European cities
I've lived both in the Czech Republic and the US and I totally get what you mean :) I was younger when I lived in the Czech Republic but I felt so much more independent and free, bc I could take the tram/metro wherever I wanted to go. I couldn't do that in the US, and I had to rely on my friends who had a car. Also, the culture and the buildings T_T they were so beautifuI!! always say that living in Prague felt like living in a fairy tale.
I'm probably gonna regret this and someone might kill me for sharing this information, but a little trick that I learned from a theater friend when I lived in Prague - in some (most) theaters you can get a last minute ticket, which usually costs 50 crowns (~2€ or ~$2) and it's for standing. And sometimes there are even some seats empty so you can even sit. It's a bit of a risk because they are not always available and they're of course not the best places, but you can still see and hear just fine. Probably not a good idea if you're planning a night out to see a play, but if you're out with someone and you decide to be spontaneous, you can try this. I've seen some really good plays like this.
Visited Prague as a tourist and I would agree the whole atmosphere and general well being of the locals is very refreshing .Travel does open your eyes for the better.

I migrated from Netherlands to Czechia. 1 year now. Trust me, your country is doing very well right now (Y) and i love it here. What i like most is cheaper, easier way of life. Car, tax, public transport, house all cheaper and still good quality. Also Prague does not really feel like a capital. It's very stretched, green etc. And, for the gun people. Czechia is one of the most lax gun countries after USA of course. Also the going out as she says is really nice a bit Bavarian like. I never want to go back to Netherlands i want to be new Czech. I find it sad that people live better in foreign countries. I am Czech, I lived in Germany for two years because of love and I missed the Czech Republic very much. Life here is nicer, we have everything we need and beautiful nature.
Hello there! First of all, let me thank you for such a nice video - I'm Czech and when I was younger, I always thought that everything was better outside the Czech Republic. Then I started to travel a lot and now I realize how lucky I am to live in Prague. I always love to hear it from other people too - it makes me so proud to be Czech! :) I'd like to add just a little comment - you're not given those four weeks of vacation (and you're "forced" to work on a trade licence) because you most probably work at language schools. I'm an English teacher at a public school and I'm given all the paid vacation guaranteed by the law. However, to be a teacher at a public school, you're required to match certain formal criteria (e.g. specific education), which is not that easy. As a result, a lot of English native speakers teach at language schools and they think that English teachers in general are not given paid vacation.
Hi, I'm a Taiwanese who's been studying in the US for 10 years. I didn't know how much I miss public transportation until I went back to Taiwan, and on the subway, I felt so relaxed and wanted to cry. Thanks for the in-depth and fun analysis! It's definitely making me thinking about changing my life and visit Prague.
Ahoj Jen, super porovnání. Dlouho jsem žil v domnění, že v Americe se mají lidé skvěle a je to takové to "live your dream", ale posledních pár let jsem se přesvědčoval o opaku. A slyšet (a vidět) názor Američanky, který potvrzuje moje myšlenky je osvěžující pocit. Obzvlášť v této době. Díky za videa a jen tak dál ;-)
Moje rodice nas tam odstehovali kdyz mi bylo 12. Po 30 letech tam jsem se chtela zabit. Odstehovala jsem se do severni Anglie, a je mi tu moc lip, i kdyz to porad nejsou Cechy.

USA vs. Europe is like young man vs Grandma :) Young man is more powerful, more efficiency atc. But grandma is more wisdom, has better priority. ' Europe has hundreds and hundres years of culture, knowledge, science. USA is a just young boy :)

@@Brano88 Odpovím ti česky. Ano, dneska má USA nejspíš lepší výzkum, ale já to myslel tak nějak historicky. Zatímco u nás Galileo pozoroval planety vlastním dalekohledem, v USA rostla planá kukuřice. Kulturní rozdíl evropy a USA je dán historicky. My jsme se vyvíjeli, oni vznikli. Stovky let vývoje nenahradíš. Proto je Evropa mnohem sociálnější. Zažila si své. Její priority se posunuly. To byla má myšlenka. Že mají dnes lépe financovaný výzkum z nich kulturnější národ nedělá. Ostatně obrovský díl jejích vědy je dán evropou. Přetáhli spoustu vědců. Krom toho Evropa ve vědě netahá zas o tolik kratší konec lana, to si nemysli. Njevětší urychlovač částic světa a z toho plynoucí objevy. Větší část materálů budoucnosti vznikli v evropě, včetně grafenu. Evropa i dnes má obrovský vědecký potenciál. V minulosti hrála naprosto dominantní roli...
It's not about science or industry. All the United States cares about is money. If Europe keeps their current track they will be the same in about 20 years. Imho
I have traveled a bit in my life but I've always returned back. Each year of age shows me why people loved and love our Czechia so much. As our anthem says, this is the earthly paradise to behold.
@@DreamPrague Yep, while the lockdown was in place the only tourists in Prague were Czech so mysteriously all the prices for food and drink in Prague 1 had to be reduced...
I personally lived in US...was even married there to an American...word after word what you said was what I tried to explain him the difference in life here and there is...never succeeded as he (as well as many Americans I knew..not all though) just couldn't grasp the concept or just couldn't imagine life can/is allowed to and should look differently than the money/success driven machinery thriving in the states..Thank you Jen ;)
The "American Dream" is deeply embedded in our psyche. First one has to change priorities, than one starts to notice all the great things that other countries have to offer besides a vacation package. :)
@@DreamPrague Never relized how serious is the pressure Americans put on them selfs to climb up the social scale all life , measuring with others all the time, never satisfied....... . BTW we have health and social insurance conected to job too, as unemployed you can get 1/2 year of unempolyment state support income ( wonder if this is in US?:-)) , than you are covered also with insurance, or you have to pay that on your own, same as self contractor.
@@Petr1331 Ah, I'll share my experience. I had to take much time off from work to due to the pandemic. In my state, basic employment is $240 per week, pre tax. (We did get a temporary boost from the government.) The cheapest apartment here is about $900 per month, without utilities. We live in the desert, and even in my small (for here) townhouse, the electricity bill in the summer is easily $150/month. If you have a car payment, expect like $300/ month. (I don't. But when you drive a cheap car, you wind up with tons of unexpected expenses in repairs.) Car insurance varies wildly, but $100/month is a decent estimate. Not to mention how much gas you use. Health insurance, my god. Basic (not even mid range) coverage was $500/month for me. And that had like a $3000 deductible. If I lost my job, I could get the coverage continued through COBRA but would have to pay the equivalent of my monthly premium plus what my employer pays, so it would cost maybe $1200/month - when you don't have a job (or are transitioning to a new one). Keep in mind that the cost of education has far outpaced inflation, while the federal minimum wage is grossly below it. (I've said it many times, but Reagan single handedly ruined our country with his so called "trickle-down economics". And the government somehow convinced the working class that we both deserve and need to be poor in order for the country to function while giving trillions in tax breaks to the wealthy.) There are many, many things to love about the US, but everything I mentioned here (which is a huge part of life) is absolutely horrendous. And you can generally multiply the "American nightmare" by a factor 10 if you're a person of color. I love my country (most of the people and the variety of cultures and restaurants here, different types of climates and beautiful nature) but it certainly has issues. Big ones.
Italové jsou skoro to samý - ty kdybys svázal a zakázal jim mluvit sprostě, tak se obávám, že by se nebyli schopní vyjádřit. Nějakou dobu jsem strávil pracovně v cizině, tak vím, že problémy jsou všude, i když třeba jiný než u nás, ale víte jak to je - sousedova tráva je vždycky zelenější než ta vaše, tak si hodně Čechů myslí, že v ČR to není nic moc a že jinde je líp. To ale není pravda - jak kde a jak co. Určitě bych každýmu doporučil, aby strávil nějakou dobu mimo ČR, nemyslím pár tejdnů na dovolený, myslím třeba rok a víc, a určitě ne v jednom státě, protože vám to otevře oči. Najednou vidíte, že věci, který třeba u nás nefungujou, jinde fungujou, a naopak, nebo maj něco, co my vůbec nemáme, nebo naopak. Co mi v cizině chybělo nejvíc, bylo naše jídlo, třeba chleba, hořčice, knedlíky, Fidorky a Kofila... Sice si tam vyděláte víc, ale taky je všechno dražší. Po čase si zvyknete a najdete si i v tý cizině něco, co se vám líbí, co doma nemáme, a nejen jídlo, který mají i v cizině dobrý, jen je prostě jiný, může to bejt spousta věcí. Co se mi naopak nelíbí na ČR, zvlášť po návratu z ciziny jsem k některejm věcem míň tolerantní, protože vím, že jinde fungujou líp; tak třeba se mi nelíbí lhostejnost k tomu, co se děje kolem nás, myslím třeba korupci - stavby dálnic nebo některý organizace, čerpající dotace od státu, jsou netransparentní žumpy na peníze, taky jídlo, který se za posledních dvacet let opravdu kvalitativně zhoršilo, stupidní příkazy a zákazy z Bruselu, atd. Jinde tak lhostejní nejsou, nenechaj si do všeho tolik zasahovat, do něčeho vůbec, a hlavně mezi sebou nemají tolik jak já jim říkám jidášů, kteří by za pár peněz prodali klidně i vlastní mámu, o vlastním národu nemluvě. Asi je to tím, že jsme za posledních 300 let nebyli svébytnej národ dohromady ani 50 let, pořád tady byl někdo cizí, kdo nám rozkazoval, tak teď, kdy už je to volnější, si s tou svobodou a s ní spojenou odpovědností sami za sebe tak nějak nevíme rady.

after being twice in the US (once in 2004 for work&travel ~4 months and ~month last year), first time i was reluctant to come back as it all was a great adventure with little to no worry about what could happen, the second time i couldn't wait to come back and join my friends for a cold beer in my favourite pub realizing all the comforts and safety nets we take for granted
A gentle tip (I know it's more editing work, but...) - when you for example speak about our architecture (sculpture holding balcony...) , I would pop out a quick picture on the side of the screen for 5 seconds how it looks, so people who are viewing the video and are let's say from US and never been to Prague could imagine what are you talking about :) thx for another nice video, a friendly neighbor from Vinohrady :)

It is not an advert for the Czech lifestyle, it is rather a sad sad picture of how much the idea of the greatness of american life is distorted. And the narrow mindedness and lack of knowledge of the average american about how other countries work, just makes it even more probable, that nothing is going to change for better in the US soon. At least not for the ever shrinking middle class .
@@GUITARTIME2024 Wellm to be honest, It is not a pleasant thing to be poor anywhere... But thanks to the american lifestyle, I bet, the percentage of households living paycheck to paycheck is higher in the US than in an average European country.
@@GUITARTIME2024 I used to live in an upper middle class home in the USA. I'm not sure you would find your life so great if you lived here. There are so many things here which make life less stressful besides what she mentioned : lack of crime, no PC police, freedom to speak your mind without being called a racist/sexist, freedom to put what you want on social media without the fear of losing your job, more vacation and more access to other countries.
I agree with everything you said. I have lived in Prague since November and I must say even doing the most mundane errand is a pleasure because of the beautiful architecture every where you turn. The transportation is wonderful and makes life much less stressful than in the U.S. There are so many things to love about being here. One thing you didn’t mention is safety. I can walk alone at any time and still feel safe.

Jsem naštvaný když musím čekat 10 minut na autobus a přitom jsou města kde to ani není možný.. pracuji v hotelu, přijela k nám jednou pani z Chicaga a 8 dní tu všude jezdila tramvají/metrem/autobusem protože jí to fascinovalo. Líbilo se jí že se dostane prakticky všude a je to bezpečné atd.. měla stovky fotek jen z MHD a vsadím se že o tom doma vyprávěla s podobným nadšením jako Jen 😃. Jinak opět skvělé video! A video ohledně zdravotnictví a tvého pohledu na něj by bylo určitě zajímavé.
I really enjoyed your video. I have lived in the Czech Republic for 18 years and this is my home now. I’m also an American ex-pat. Your video was spot on. I like what you said about the health insurance here. I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis two years ago, and at the time spent about a week in the hospital, and the $100 that I pay into the system covered it. And I still visit the hospital for treatment, and it’s all covered. I have to stop or I’ll be writing all day, but keep making the videos. They’re very informative.

Dear Jen, I'm addicted to your videos! Every week, I look forward to see your next video about Prague. The first time I went to Prague was in 1993, right after the fall of communism. Prague was a little different than today, but I felt in love with the city. I took my wife to Prague two years ago. She loved it. She felt in love with the city as well. So, we began taking about retiring to Prague. I was a little worried at the beginning, wondering if this was a good idea 🤔¿? But after watching a few of your videos, including today's video, I became convinced that we are doing the right thing. Our plan is to fix our house, rent it and take care of a few other things and move to Prague in four or five years from now. So, I want to thank you for all your hard work that you put in your videos that we enjoy so much every week and have been so helpful to us. Take care! 🙂

Miguel, and where are you from? Spain or Latin America? Or USA? Just asking because, you know, it might happen that Prague won't exist anymore in 4 or 5 years. Europe is not far from a war conflict with usage of nukes which is a wet dream of some circles from US to save the US economy which is being on the edge of bankruptcy. So they are provoking Russia constantly, first with Ukraine, now with Belarus. So think quick and well, so that you will make a good choice and not regret it in the future. I would understand if someone from Latin America would like to move from there just not to be beheaded by some drug cartel members, but I would say it is not your case if you was able to travel repeatedly to Europe in the past, hence guessing you are either from US or Spain?

I cannot speak for immigrants, I've lived here my whole life so I have no idea how life is for people who move here from abroad. But I agree with everything Jan said in this video. Prague is culturally really rich, it's a beautiful historical city, it's very safe, great access everywhere (public transport is great if you don't count trains lol), it's affordable, healthcare is very good.. I honestly love living here. Of course, nothing is ever as perfect as it sounds and there are things that suck here. But that's just life for you :) Whatever you end up choosing, I hope you're happy with your decision! Best of luck, and if you do end up coming to Prague - vítejte! :)

I lived and taught in Prague years ago and loved living there. I kept agreeing with all you were talking about. Great transportation, the Czech people know how to relax and enjoy life. Architecture is beautiful everywhere. I just hope it stays that way. I remember the young people seemed to want to be quick to adopt American culture/lifestyle, and I’m not sure that’s such a good thing. My Czech friend sent me this video. Makes me want to go back and visit. Only downside was the language. I found it difficult to learn.
My time in Czech Republic was the most stress free and enlightening 3 months of my life, I hope to return when this pandemic stuff isnt so crazy to make it my home.
Hey! I lived in the USA for 1.5 years and I can 100% agree with you. I thought I will miss the USA a lot, but then when I returned here back to Czech and the coronavirus has started, I am so glad I am here with all of the Czech comforts. But the USA is very big and beautiful so I am looking forward to going back, but just for a holiday. Living there is so hard, but nature soooo beautiful.

I lived in LA 9 years and returned to Prague not purposely but Covid made that happen... I would say Prague has much better quality life plus more freedom 👌👍💜❤️😄😁😇thanks for the video.
Hi Jen, I am a Czech and have lived in the USA for 20 years (5 years in Oregon and 15 in Tennessee). I am a licensed mental health therapist and supervisor. I have been with my employer for 7 years. I actually have 5 weeks of vacation from my American company now and 6 weeks starting next year. I go home to Czech Republic for a month for Christmas every year. During the time I am in Czech Republic and away from the office, I always hope nothing terrible happens without me but if sh!$ hits the fan, I let my American supervisor deal with the mess and I don’t care!! I guess I am not fully Americanized even after all these years. I love your video! Healthcare in the USA is terribly expensive and it really is an issue and there needs to be a revolution. I will be retiring in the Czech Republic because of the perks.
As someone that has spent half of my life between UK and Bulgaria, I find the Czech Republic to have the best quality of life as this unique hybrid that has benefited from both the best of East and West. I just love it here and hope it doesn't get ruined as it gets more diverse as maintaining its unique charm should be protected and preserved for others to learn from..
@@rojiblanco299 it’s much more corrupt, relatively poor and more chaotic than the Czech Republic. However there are some plus sides to it compared to some places in Western Europe like the UK as life is simpler, there is less violent crime and there are many opportunities while it’s developing as it’s still under the radar and not as popular as other places. Also Bulgaria lacks the community spirit that I have seen with the Czechs to take their country forward and build upon many things, while in Bulgaria it’s every man for himself pretty much.
@@rado-san6580 Would you recommend moving to Bulgaria? Next year I'm gonna start doing my accounting & finance degree in the UK and I'd like to move to either Czech Republic, Bulgaria or Poland after my studies. I'm Polish so I'll definitely learn either Bulgarian or Czech during those 3 years. Also, could you give some more info on the more opportunities part? With my finance & accounting degree would it be easy for me to find a decent job?
@@rojiblanco299 it can be subjective. My wife is Polish and she is not very fond of Bulgaria, but she loves Czech Republic. I think that you will find plenty of opportunities here, especially since UK degrees will become a something of a rarity in the near future for Europeans as getting a student loan will be pretty much impossible if you don’t live there permanently. It will help if you can tell me why are you interested in those countries in particular so that I can tell you an honest opinion from my perspective. Each country has it’s own pros and cons.
@@rado-san6580 Bulgaria from what I've read has a quite low unemployment rate, low tertiary education attainment which I guess would make me more relevant on the job market (same as in Czech Republic) also I have quite a lot of money saved up and housing is relatively affordable so my life with a house would be much more easier. Before Covid the economy had decent growth so I guess there are many job opportunities here. Czech Republic for me is the most developed Slavic country and learning the language for me should be fairly easy compared to learning Bulgarian. Low unemployment. However, the houses here are expensive and the economy isn't performing as strong in terms of growth as Bulgaria or Poland. Poland. It's my homeland where I have my family and friends so settling here would definitely be the easiest especially since I know the language, our economy is going very well and I don't see why it would change in the future so in this aspect we're very stable. But in general I'd also like to live in a country with people that are like me, UK for me is very bland.

Glad you made it clear this is based on personal experience comparing Prague to L.A. If I lived in L.A. I'd probably want to move the Prague, too. As it is, I live in Indianapolis and experience very few of the negatives you had. Just take traffic, my commute is under 10 minutes, in 30 minutes I can be anywhere in town, it's rare to pay for parking, and I can go and come home any time I want, never having to know if the bus is running. Enjoy your videos.
I grew up in Los Angeles County East of the 405. Actually near the 210 and 57 freeway. I now live near Temecula while all my family still lives in San Dimas Glendora area and I know what you mean about not getting together much. I work a lot of hours and it's more than an hour drive each way. We usually see each other on holidays except for the last 6 months with COVID-19, we have missed all the holidays together. I have been want to visit Prague for a few years now and finally am starting to plan a visit next year. Hopefully the pandemic will be under control by Sept/Oct 2021.
While we were in LA we had family in Temecula and we saw them only once per year! It really is difficult. I'm glad you're going to make it to Prague, I think you'll really enjoy it. Don't forget to get out of the center and see how the normal people live!

Wow, I live in Poland and I've found many similarities in your opinions. Maybe really the life in USA (LA) is not such a dream I expected. But mostly unacceptable would be the loss of social and family life as it is in Poland. You've opened my eyes that our health care is not so bad as many of us claim.
Hi Jen, great observations. I really had to fast forward to present day Czechia from when I emigrated 40 years ago to relate to your points. It's truly wonderful how life in Czechia has recovered, like the facades of buildings beautifully built, then let to decay during the era of dictatorship of the proletariat. Being born and reared in Prague, I certainly appreciated the lifestyle there like you do. I had a chance to experience it for a few years some decade ago. My wife and I always say "best life ever" when we head down to the Pacific Ocean to walk on the beach or to go sailing. Especially so in the winter!
Hi Paul! You are a lucky man you get to see the Pacific Ocean on a walk! I went to University in La Jolla, San Diego and we lived across from the beach and THAT was a truly wonderful life. We roommates used to say to each other "We will never again be able to afford a view like this." And unfortunately I had to graduate, get a job and move into a box. :)

@@DreamPrague I know what you mean. I always knew I wanted to settle in San Diego for the 'final stretch' and I was both dedicated and lucky enough to be able to make it happen. I traded 'sun dollars' and living in San Diego when I first came to the States for jobs to build a career and a portfolio, before returning. The real estate crisis of 2008 helped a lot, too. I could afford to snatch my own piece of Paradise with an ocean view. When you come out west, please stop by. We can go sailing!

I just got back yesterday from Czech Republic - been 3 times and I _love_ it. Haven't had any negative experiences with the people either they're very friendly - especially the younger generation who seem to be very interested in where you're from etc. Everything is so chill and pubs/beer gardens are always busy! Considering leaving Scotland next year for a while to work there if possible. :)
God, your description of our pubs and coffee places makes me miss those places during quarantine. These are the first places I will go to once our country reopens

Jane, it was very beautiful, honest and real, thank you. When I got on a long trip to the USA 25 years ago, I had the idea that everything there looked like in the TV series Dynasty. Somewhere yes, but in most cases not. Since then, I have come to respect the Czech Republic very much, as a home. The more I traveled, the more I realize that's true. There are certainly countries where people live better, but there are not many of them.
Hi Jen, this is the most important video you ever made. Last 15 years I’m thinking that anyone can live life as he want, as he dreamed it - wherever you are. But this video is the first one, which confirms me, that maybe I should return, slow down a just live for the moment with great culture, family and simple lifestyle. The only bad thing for me is that mostly Czechs are grumpy, upset with everything and everyone, upset that they don’t have the same as the neighbors... they don’t appreciate what a great country they are living in and how high life level they have. So... I renew my residence today for one more year, and let’s see, maybe next time will write my comment from Prague again. Thanks a lot to show me beauty of my own country.

I think we should form a "ministry or people who've lived abroad" to help improve society. I think people who have lived in more than one country are the most able to give advice on what their own country does well and does poorly.
@@DreamPrague You nailed it, Jen. No one is a prophet in their own land. At least not without gaining another perspective. When I moved to Austin, TX, many locals informed me that I came to the best place to live. When I asked where else they'd lived to make such a claim, the answer was mostly 'nowhere, I'd never live anywhere else.' How can you argue with such an ironclad logic, right? There's a proverb "Kolik reci znas, tolikrat si clovekem." Same goes for culture and local knowledge. Young men from Czechia in centuries past would go to other countries "na zkusenou" to gain experience elsewhere. It was part of their education. One cannot have any perspective with only one eye open.

Amazing! When I studied in the US I was thinking, that I have to move out of CZ and live in US as I was amazed. At first. Then I moved from my hometown to PRG and I discovered that I want to stay here. That it is still in CZ but maybe more cosmopolitan and tolerant than any city around the world. I am amazed by your speech at the end of the video. And even I now have kids and live in suburb out of PRG I still work there and enjoy every moment being there. Wish you amazing life in here and continue to shoot these videos. I love them
Krásný den Všem. To video zahřálo i moje srdce, a to jsem cizí občan, žijící v Praze čtrnáct let. Česko po takové době nejde nemilovat. Je úžasné, akorát ne všichni to vědí. Američanka je hodně chytrá a otevřená, proto to takhle vidí. Jsou-li namyšlený lidí svou velikostí, nikdy by to nepřiznali.
@@klaraleblochova Upřímně to si nemyslím , například já navštěvuji nemocnici Motol každou chvíli , kvůli svému zdraví a doktoři a i sestřičky jsou na mě milý a zajímá je můj názor atd. , samozřejmě záleží jaké doktory máš atd.
@@lukashirsch9940 Protože jsem součástí skupiny, která se zabývá řešením práv pacientů v nemocnici, myslím, že na to mám trochu hlubší náhled, bez urážky. Ono je to i o tom, co si je člověk schopný nechat upřít a co je schopný zkousnout. Pokud jsi ten typ, že se necháš přemluvit, abys počkal/a na chodbě, zatímco ti budou za dveřmi ošetřovat vyděšené dítě, které bude brečet, ale "ono to přece přežije, je to jen na chvilku, je to pro jeho dobro" nemáme se o čem bavit. Rodiče a lidé, kteří si takové situace nenechají vmanipulovat jako jim prospěšné, mají veliký problém, ač jsou v právu. A zrovna Motol je v tomhle tvrdím si říct nejhorší v republice. Po Slovensku jsme například hned druzí v Evropě, nebo možná má světě?, co se porodnického násilí týče. Je tohle dobrá vizitka?

Thank you for reminding me of some of the priviledges I have by living here in Prague. There are many things I feel like I take for granted or don't see over some of the negative stuff. I feel like I needed this video. It's really heart-warming to see that someone from a completely different culture enjoys and appriciates the life here.

I wish you could experience what it's like to live here in the country.Cities yes super everything is there, but the charm of nature is unmistakable. In the morning you will be awakened by the birdsong and in the evening there is absolute darkness and silence. That's what I like here. I think it is enough to listen to the Vltava from Smetana and everyone will understand. Otherwise, thanks for the positive evaluation, everyone appreciates it.
