The United States spends more than any other nation, nearly $4 trillion annually, on health care. Yet, for all that expense, the American health care system is not ranked #1-not even close. So, where can excellence in health care be found around the world? To answer this question, renowned doctor and bioethicist Ezekiel Emanuel analyzed 11 different health care systems for his new book, Which Country Has the World's Best Health Care?, comparing them based on dimensions such as consumer-friendliness, choice of providers, innovation, generosity of coverage, and equality of care. On June 25, Dr. Emanuel joined #AspenIdeasHealth to discuss how these different health care models stack up and key lessons for health reform in the United States. In conversation with Margot Sanger-Katz of The New York Times. For more Aspen Ideas: Health 20/20 conversations, please visit www.aspenideashealth.org.

That’s EASY: most of us are stuck in the healthcare system our government provides....not likely to move my residence just for better doctoring, so stuck.

It is the quality of the doctors. You are totally insane concerning the best healthcare! I was in the UK, London, with pneumonia and a temperature of 105. They said I wasn't sick and couldn't possibly go to the hospital!

@@ln5747 that's why it's ranked in the top 20 in the world by the WHO unlike the US, Germany, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Australia or Canada

@@paulm2467 lol the WHO, bless. Ask anyone who has lived in such countries and they categorically say otherwise 🤣. Friends elderly parents will not move back to UK from Spain because of the healthcare difference. Another friend can't believe how horrendous UK is compared to Germany..in Germany he gets an MRI straight away, UK you can wait 6 months if not urgent. Meanwhile, my dad is currently in A&E for 15 hours waiting to see someone for a blocked airway from a bone. It's Sunday and no specialist is on shift. What a fucking joke.

@@ln5747 it's strange how all the ranking systems rank it very highly but you get people all over the internet giving a personal opinion based on someone else's experience and think that that's as significant. It happens on everything under the sun and is responsible for the lies and disinformation that permeate the internet and lead to the craziest conspiracy theories being believed by idiots all over the world.

For special medical treatments I believe the US is still the best. For accessibility for the majority of population its not too good. Especially for the poor.

People in the Netherlands live about 5 years longer on average than in Malaysia. What does that say about the health care system?
