I've built half of my glow bag with MVP. Great glow. Kasta glow is also consistently outstanding. My newest fave is the recent Glo DD from Discmania, the glow is awesome and the disc flies really really well
@@evanstanek5838 "Consistently" Might not be the best word. I have a 2022 GrymX that has pretty bad glow. Maybe they improved though? I don't run a lot of Kasta
I found them randomly a few weeks ago, they were my first discs so I can't compare a lot(and I'm terrible), but I've really enjoyed them so far and feel the quality is better solid.
This was fun! It was good to see someone who has seen a lot of discs, molds, plastics, etc. to rate them against each other, and I mostly agree! I would love to see a similar video about a lot of the smaller and newer companies which are breaking onto the scene, even if they are manufactured by another mother company. I LOVE Clash and Mint, and I’d love to see companies like Doomsday and Lonestar on here
I throw a lot of MVP just cuz pretty much all their discs are flat, have smooth edges and good rigidity. Molds fly pretty consistent from run to run and flight doesn't vary too much between plastics. As a rec player it's nice to know what I'm buying is gonna do what it should
Really true for every brand. The people that claim massive differences in the same mold are the same people that can't throw the same shot twice in 10 tries.
I haven’t bought an mvp/axiom disc that matches what the flight numbers would suggest. They have all been consistently more overstable than I’d expect. It may come down to how flat the discs are, but they sure need to figure that part out.
@@serenityinsilence Flight numbers are a) a joke and b) different from ecosystem to ecosystem. Trilogy always way overstates their stability (there's no Stag ever made that's a -1/2!). MVP understates their stability. Innova invented flight numbers but their discs basically make their flight numbers a range.
I love Thoughtspace and I’m glad you mentioned them at the end. Just wish a disc or two would have been featured but I get it you can’t be throwing all day. They’re discs feel so great and look amazing and funny enough I only bag one mvp disc right now but hope to try more soon.
Trevor, outstanding job on this video. Very judicious review and rating system, on top of a nice little history for each company. I’d love to see a part two of this where you dive into the “niche” manufacturer market. It’d be cool to see each of the attribute rankings, for companies such as: - Gateway - Legacy - Clash - RPM - Viking - Divergent - Finish Line - Elevation - Doomsday - Yikun And Prodiscus! A lot of those brands have been around for a long while - several of them longer than MVP.
I think you were pretty spot on with these top companies. Would've liked to see Clash get a shout-out. I think they have a top 5 or better plastic & feel, although some of their molds are hard to get a hold of up til now. Also the Royal line from Lat 64 is a top plastic imo. Great video Trevor. 👍
@@MrOBJECTIVEOBSERVER a Soda for a fairway, a Berry for a midrange & even though the Wild Honey is a 12 speed, slower arms can still get great flight & distance from it throwing at different angles.
Thanks for this video. Educational. I’m an Innova guy with some Discraft sprinkled in but I’ve been getting into Westside and MVP discs lately. I agree that Westside is often overlooked. I find their discs have great grip and glide well.
I started with Innova like everyone else. My bag's purely MVP and Westside these days. MVP started bumping Innova molds long before Conrad even knew they existed, and I have enough Bears and Swords to start my own shop.
I've been an Innova Boy for over 35 years and have all my slots filled (phrasing) with discs in various states of wear. But I've struggled with finding consistency in fairway drivers. I just don't have the time to break in 3 or 4 to have enough to practice with. I found the Arrow from Gateway for that "flat-to-flip and not burn over" slot. I also found a nice disc for longer anheizer shots that will still fight to stay fairly stable in the Oxygen by Element, a new company. And you can't go wrong with Prodigy's F7 for rollers. I gave up dicking with new putters and currently bag a beadless Aviar that's close to 30 years old. This old dog is always willing to learn new tricks.
Aviar, whale, aviarx3, pig, toro, roc, roc3, gator, jay, mako3, teebird, eagle, TL, leopard3, thunderbird, firebird, sexton firebird, tern, shryke, wraith, destroyer and Xcal all see play in professionals and casuals bags. 22 molds, with tons of people liking sharks, wombat3s, polecats, teebird3s, chargers, mambas, savants, novas, Rhynos, max’s and whatnot. 7 molds aint it.
The innova R pro pig is the most unique disc I’ve ever thrown. It is reliable, overstabl, and once it hits the ground it just stops on a dime. Amazing disc. I have a few other approach discs but this is a must have in my opinion. A solid overstable mid or zone type disc is a must have to pair with the pig just to have a slide in os disc because pig doesn’t slide at all. Which is lovely if you have the air space. I also bag a berg-x for forehands. The prodigy pa-5 rounds up my approach discs as the understabls e compliment to the berg-x.
A local shop has a library card type idea and I’ve tried out lots of prodigy discs. The a3 pa5 pa3 m4 x3 and x2 all have a home in my bag. Their plastic feels amazing as well.
(I’m partially bias being on their street team) but the 400 plastic for prodigy is the best plastic I’ve felt, perfect amount of flex & great grip. I think 90% of my bag is 400 or 400g.
Started out with a Discmania starter set. Really decent set to begin with but I lost all the disc 😂. Now I’m throwing mainly Innova and Discraft. Have a lot of MVPs now as well, I find it doesn’t really matter what brand they all make good discs!!
You can get effectively the same thing from any of them, even if the flight numbers vary a bit. Every needed bag slot can be filled with an absolutely viable disc in a variety of great plastics.
OG disc golf fanatics - Innova People with inheritance from Sweden - Kastaplast Solid competitors - Latitude 64 Love the sport for what it is - Discraft Slept on GIANT - DGA The people that love being dissipointed - Prodigy The true king pins - MVP The people drinking at the event most likely shirtless - Franklin The wealthy collector - Vibram The guy getting into the sport trying to buy the coolest looking discs - Streamline The guy who’s actively looking for his disc in the woods - Clash discs The guy who always throws his dx plastic water discs - Mint disc These last two were FOUL😂
You should check out Essential discs out of Michigan… they have their over stable approach called the honey and and under stable fairway called the oxygen…. Both great discs!!!!
I've always thrown Innova, but I've noticed some sharp edges underneath the disc. That's why I'm here because I want to branch out. I was wondering if anyone else has noticed that as well. Great video btw
Thought space athletics is my number one disc golf brand. Don’t get me wrong I have a mixed bag. But thought Pace athletics is definitely overrepresented in my bag. I all of the companies you talked about here. But thought Pace athletics does really cool stuff with the art on their discs. They also have some really good discs like the Mana or the pathfinder.
As a Discraft only thrower I think their biggest weakness is not having premium plastic in all their putters. I would love to throw challenger. Challenger OS and SS in ESP. That or not having an Athena OS yet
Agreed, the esp ringer gt is crazy underrated, and would be way a better stock plastic than jawbreaker, but they only run stuff like that for ledgestone. 😢
I thought you should have mentioned the most unique thing about prodigy disks, how easy it is to identify and compare them. Need a more stable driver than the D3? Move up to the D2. Beginners select the higher numbers, srtonger players the lower numbers. It is intuitive, but lacks aesthetics and character. Same can be said for Disk Mania?
MVP's a newer company in contrast to Discraft and Innova, both of which have been around since the '80s, but MVP's been around for 14 years already. To be fair, they really broke out when Conrad hit the Holy Shot. All in all, I appreciate your ratings and you justify them well. Personally, I'm not a fan of Innova plastic, but give me MVP's neutron or Westside's VIP and I'm there.
Anyone ignoring Gateway is suppressing the pinnacle of their experience - start with Magic, a straight hovercraft of an approach. Then get spellbound with the Wizard. Well thought out presentation Trevor, enjoyed it - Foundation plus Gateway Wizard collab on tap, really...... you'll like it now, and love it later ! Unlimited Konnor cos-play on the Wizard.
The biggest thing I've learned transitioning from competitive (league) Ultimate to disc golf is that there aren't any great discs/companies, only great players. Fix your form, and any disc will do the job.
Innova, all over the World? Have you seen their international shipping? It costs more than the discs. Meanwhile, Latitude64 ship anywhere for 20 €/$ in less than 2 days.
House of discs isn't examined correctly my guy. House of discs OWNS Trilogy, Discmania and Kastaplast. Trilogy is still manufactured by trilogy with trilogy plastic, Discmania is manufactured independently and so is Kastaplast. House just owns these brands now, but their molds and plastics are unchanged outside of in house innovations.
I swear fission waves does have that effect that goes further. I can throw it 50ish ft further than any other distance driver that I have. As for the other molds I’ve tried from mvp, I can’t say that it has that effect lol. I think it’s just cuz the fission wave is understable and I love throwing on hyzer. For reference I normally throw 280-300 and the fission wave I can throw around 325-340ish
You didn't even mention the history of MVP and it's artists collaborations. If you go to MVP team page on their website, you will see a seperate bracket for their sponsored artists team. I'm not biased, but I'm an artists myself and this was important to me when I first noticed 10 years ago with Zam, Mike Inscho and Skulboy.
Dude I laughed when you said "recently" in your breakdown. Their current and previous art director were 1st and 2nd place in an artist competition that they held in 2014.
I would not recommend Innova to anyone. You cant recommend a brand that makes discs that mostly needs to be modified before its in throwable condition. Obviously same goes for prodigy.
When mentioning MVP, you can’t leave out the diversity with their non-overmold lineup in Streamline. Still under that same umbrella and fill a few different gaps that the overmold doesn’t fill yet
Personally I feel like innovas plastic feels like one of the worst to me, star is okay but esp feels better, champ is pretty good but lucid or c-line feels better. Don’t love their putting plastics either, just my opinion
There was already 1 speeds with tons of glide way before the Glitch and Watt; MVP didn't innovate that, they just replicated discs people long forgot about.
Innova = classic plastic and molds, ages like a fine wine Discraft = old school molds and plastic Trilogy = buttery plastic, very domey & glidey MVP = high quality plastic, very flat & stable Prodigy = haven't thrown much...
It’s a brand new mold which takes the old name, and replaces the old venom. Not a retool of the old mold. Trevor is well aware of this fact, unlike you. You truly are ”that guy”. Clueless and overconfident.
I guess Clash wins. I guess they are too small to mention but I really like the Honey. Having said that, I really like the MVP stuff lately. Probably the one brand I buy more of than anything else. The consistency in the feel and how well they perform, I really like them.
really wished you hit each disc company as individuals. We aren't retailors and we don't care who owns the company. Dynamic Discs is not the same as Kastaplast. Lost me at this part in the video
If the owners aren't sharing data and information across companies somehow I would be very surprised. Outside of House of Discs Kastaplast would not be mentioned any more than Legacy, Gateway, or any of the other smaller manufacturers.
