This video really shows the hurdles of getting all mainline DQ games, I hope that square decides to port all mainline games on switch eventually since I own all of there ports.

I find it interesting that the rarity and prices of some DQ games are very different in France. For example, V and VI are opposite. I bought DQ VI a few months ago for about $20, but DQ V is extremely expensive. You can't find a used copy for less than $50, and a new copy is more than $100. The 3DS port of DQ VIII is also very common and cheap in France. You can easily find a new copy for like $15. Same goes for DQ VII.

At least I know it's not easy to get these games

My dad got me a copy of Dragon Quest 6 on the DS when I was younger back when it first released, and I was genuinely surprised to see just how much it goes for now! Glad I've still got my boxed copy on me for the collection :)

This blows my mind how little the Warrior games sold when they came out. They are such amazing games!!

This video is about 1.5y old at this point and man was it spot on. DQB on Switch is like $90. DQB on Vita is back to $80-$100. The 3 DS titles and 2 3DS titles are insanely expensive too. I'm glad I bought them before they skyrocketed in price.

I own and beaten dragon quest vi on Nintendo DS. I didn’t think it could be so valuable. I got it for under $40 back when it was first released. Guess I lucked out when got it day 1. What a world.

I REALLY hope square decides to port the mobile versions of DQ 4-6 to switch. I hate having to spend so much money just to be able to play through my favorite series.

I was out with my friends in LA one day a few months ago and found DQ8 3DS at a retro game store we passed by. I was so SO happy and immediately snagged it up brand new, for like $20. I keep the box displayed on my desk in my dorm and it’s been such a great game. Definitely try and find it before it fades into the aether like Mr. Chief said.

How about an updated mid-2021 version of this video? :-) Recently I decided I'd like a copy of DQV DS - oof. Absolutely out of control prices. One guy on Amazon wanted $600. I bought a JP copy for $53 in the meantime, until I can find a decent English copy. I'm so disappointed with myself that I didn't buy this during release time, and actually very shocked to find out that I didn't have it. I spent an absolute fortune on DS games during its run, both US and JP games. I honestly thought I had DQ IV and V DS remakes and couldn't believe that I didn't. I do have VI, plus the VII and VIII 3DS remakes, but kicking, kicking, kicking myself that I never picked up IV and V. I had better get my wallet out.... :-(

interesting thing here in mexico. Dragon quest 8 3ds and ps2 are the most common main line dq games over there PERIOD. Surprisingly the 3ds version sold a ton of copies over here so it's pretty common to find.

And how the hell the price of ds version of DQV jumped from $60 to almost $250 within a year? Could anyone please explain this for me? It’s 2021 and very much impossible to find DQV under $100 with or without a box today 😫 ps. I recently got a hold of a ds copy of DQ IV for $95-insane price as well.

I'm satisfied since I got 1,2,3, & 11 on switch, and 5,7,8,&9 on DS, I'll just wait for zenithia trilogy on switch, and 10 (hopefully) then ill be happy

“Includes a demo disc for a far more inferior game” as someone who has played ff12 and dragon quest 8 I must say you’re right. This is coming from a huge ff fan boy. As much as I enjoyed ff12, dragon quest 8 was a great experience through out. 8 was my first dragon quest game and comparing the two is like comparing a well made dinner to frozen pizza. Aside from that, my most valuable dragon quest game would be 6 CIB. For personal value I say dragon quest 8 because it got me into the series.

The prices now are way higher. Crazy how expensive they got. They we’re dirt cheap when you made this video but now the DS games are very expensive. Especially DQ 4, 5 and 8. Better have deep pockets to buy those now.

Fun fact: I bought DQB on Switch when it came out, and only a few months later Gamestop kept pestering me with emails about how I can get a special offer if I return that game. Not any other Switch game I bought from them, only that. I'm like, "fuck off! This game is MINE!"

Well this is news to me. Didn't know having a complete copy of Dragon Quest 6 would be one of the rare games. Kinda funny that I also grab the guide as well.

I own all of the modern DQ games. I made sure to pick up VI when it came back in stock for $20 on Amazon a year after its release. IV and V I was able to find easy enough for $20 on Newegg at the time. I try to make sure I preorder every mainline DQ game even if I don’t have the time for them. For the PS4 spinoffs, I generally just wait until the price goes down which, as you pointed out in the video, is inevitable.

I just recently got into this series. My first Dragon Quest game was VIII on the PS2 way back in 2006, with VII on 3DS. Just picked up XI for the Switch and I have a daunting task ahead of me if I want to play the rest of the games.

You need to update this, because the pandemic caused a massive price boom in retro games. DQIII alone is going for over $100.

After I finished the Erdrick trilogy all on mobile I bought DQ4, DQ5 and Rocket Slime on DS in this flea market though not physically, instead they were installed on my R4 DS cartridge which all cost around 30 Dirhmas as far as I remember (aka like 3 US dollars lol). I've finished 4 and Rocket Slime and currently nearing the kids portion of the game and loving all three of them especially 5.

1:46 Crazy to think that Casper Van Dien, the actor who played Johnny Rico in Starship Troopers, first acting gig had him dressed as the Hero of Alefgard. Also it's funny that the player's guide by Prima for Dragon Quest Builders goes for like 5x more than the actual game. Chalk that up to the fact it came out when physical guides were being phased out.

I got DQXI on DS a while back for 20€. Watching this made me feel good about it.

For those of you who are curious, you can get any of the handheld games for ridiculously cheap prices at GameStop. DQ1&2 on GB is about 20 bucks DQ3 is roughly 30 DQ4 is a measly 15 bucks DQ5 is either 20 or 30 bucks DQ6 is only 35 bucks DQ7 on 3DS was 30 when I last checked DQ8 is roughly 35 to 40 DQ9 is 30 or 35 I paid 12 bucks for 4 in its box complete and got the whole lot of them for about 160 or 170 with Powerup Rewards. Highly recommend you check your GameStop

The DS version of DQ6 was published by Nintendo rather than Square Enix which might explain the scarcity of copies. I guess Square Enix had lost faith in the series 'performance in the west and wasn't going to continue releasing them here after the DS release of 5.

Fun Fact: When Dragon Quest VI was released on the Super Famicom, the game was sold at a very steep price of ¥11,400 JPY (around $100.00 USD). This makes Dragon Quest VI the most expensive Dragon Quest game ever sold (Excluding Limited/Collector's Editions). This was due to the game being released on a 32 Megabit Cartridge (4MB), making it one of the largest games on the system as well as the largest the console could support without adding bank-switching circuitry or Enhancement Chips to the cartridge.

Boy am I glad that I got into Dragon Quest when I did, and was able to get the DS and 3DS games before their recent explosion in price. I just checked and a sealed copy of DQ VIII for 3DS goes for 200 dollars now.

Lesson learned: Use emulators.

So this weekend, I came across a vendor at Tampa Bay Comic-Con 2023 who had the NES carts for Dragon Warrior II, III, and IV. Priced at $65, $120, and $165 respectively. He also had the first one, but I already picked up a CIB copy at another convention for $60. So, naturally I wanted these for my collection as a huge DQ fan, but of course the price tag was a bit iffy. But... he was open to trading and negotiation. Normally I'd just take some of my excess stuff, but this was on the other side of the state, so I had to be a bit creative. So now came a bit of negotiation, buying from other vendors and trading. So first, I haggled DW II down to $50. Then I picked up DW IV through haggling the guy down to $140, and then a combo of $85 cash and $55 trade. And finally, I picked up a Wii Metroid Trilogy from another vendor for $70 and did a flat trade for DW III.

Finally got DQ5 to complete my mainline DQ collection today (Ignoring Japan only DQ10) for $100, when it usually sells for around $280. Some people think im crazy for buying a DS game for that much, but I know in my heart it was worth it for one of the best games ever made.

OMG I have 2 complete in box copy's of Dragon Quest 6, that Toy's R Us gave me basically for free back in the day. Had no idea they were so valuable.

Good rule of thumb: you can buy them used or without the case and will often not 10 to 20 off the price. Then buy a replacement case for 5-10 dollars. I currently have DQ3 and 11 on Switch and 1 on NES. Though I did ask for the rest of the main line entries for Christmas, so here's hoping.

I have a complete set of NA Strat Games for all of the portable DQ games (7 and 8 are the ps1 and ps2 guides). You want to talk about rare items the guides are super rare now. Especially all the Gameboy Colour DS ones.

i’m in an odd situation with buying DQ games because i have DQ 1 2 3 7 8 and 11 so i still need 4 5 6 and 9 but i believe 4 5 and 6 will come to switch so i should probably wait so that just leaves me with DQ 9 witch i’ll probably get now because i don’t believe it will come to switch anytime soon.

I am glad I still have all my DW1 thru DW4 cartridges, boxes, and manuals, and a DW7 for PS1, even though they are very well 'loved'. So found some downloadable files that let me play all four of the Nintendo ones on my PC now.

I have DQ VI on the ds in good condition with box and I only now realized how valuable it is lol. I just have it sitting around. Makes me proud of my game collection!

I needed Dragon Quest 6 on the ds to complete my collection back in 2015. New copies were selling for $125 or so on Amazon. I found it at a Meijer in the DS case brand new for it's original price of $35. It was wild. I had looked at that same copy on the shelf there for years not knowing it was valuable. Glad I found that it must have been meant to be.

I got the dq5 ds cartridge and instructions for free so I'm playing it right now. Oh damm I bought dq6 ages ago for cheap in a second hand shop, it has all the inserts and the Nintendo code thing still in there. Got real lucky there

It still surprises me how many great games of DQ didn't go outside of Japan. I've seen a lot of fan translations of 5 but I couldn't imagine that the DS version was the first officially released one. I also would've loved to see the other Torneko games and Young Yangus in English...

I bought my copy of DQ6 for $10 on sale at an electronics store. It was in a bargain bin with 10-15 other copies. Good pickup I suppose.

Enix of America actually existed up to DQ6. They skipped DQ5 intentionally, thinking Americans wouldn't like the game's theme of getting married and raising a family. DQ6 was almost completely localized as Dragon Warrior V, but *that's* when EoA croaked.

I had no idea that Dragon Quest VI on the ds was so rare. I bought it in like 2011 or 2012 and I never really played it until a few months ago. I'm kind of glad that I picked it up after playing Dragon Quest IX

I only have an Xbox, so I started with DBQ2, then DQXI, now I’m on Octopath Traveler. I can’t get enough! 😁

I feel like some context for Dragon Quest Vi is needed compared to Dragon Quest IV/V. Square Enix did the translation and publishing for Dragon Quest IV/V. Nintendo footed the bill for Dragon Quest VI localization and publishing. You can easily see this on the front corner of the cases between all three games (As well as Dragon Quest IX) where it says Nintendo instead of Square Enix. You could buy copies of the game up to this past year directly from Square Enix on their online store. They seem to come and go on listing (It might be finally gone for good at this point). Since Nintendo had the publishing rights, they do what they do best and stop printing earlier than you think they would on games. I was finding copies clearanced at Target in 2012. This is reason why it's so rare. Nintendo is to blame for stopping production early on it. If it were Square Enix, you'd most likely still be able to buy copies today.

Finally glad that, The Erdrick Trilogy came to the UK... on mobile and ported those versions to switch. Which I went and completed them cus it's the only versions I can pay for. I don't have room for DQ4 on my phone so have to get DS version and the Zenithian Trilogy is not fucking around it wants my wallet's blood and my wallet is shaking it's cash out of fear. Bit of a pain in the ass that these games cost a biiiiiitttt too much. I've beaten DQ8 so many times on PS2 and preferably the 3DS, DQ11 is fucking amazing, DQ9 I did it coop with my brother. I just started checking the prices for DQ4,5,6 last week and I was... annoyed with these prices I can't just keep on high spending on each game and beat them so I'm gonna put dragon quest 4,5,6,7 on hold for a while also I've spent alot of time on RPGs already so it's time for a well deserved break from it for a while.

I actually have three copies of Dragon Warrior 3 on NES and two of those are CIB because I got one as a gift around the same time I found a copy at toomanygames convention.

I manage to buy DQ VI for Nintendo DS under 20$ in suprisingly good condition before DQ Smash announcement and oh boi prices prices went super high after coming to smash which is why buying DQ VI was one of the best decisions i ever made.

Got DQ 7 and 8 for $20 each at Walmart hunting for rare finds and indeed it was. Also most of this prices have gone up since this video. Thank you for inspiring me to get some of this titles at the time you release this cause now i don’t think I could muster the cash for them. As the time keeps passing the more rare they are so strike now before its to late. Even the original Famicom titles have gone up.
