Hi Rhys, thank you for your help and time to help us guys who don’t get the chance to get to the water as often as we can! I’m a disabled fisherman who loves fly fishing and I have represented my country at disabled level. I find your information absolutely priceless! Huge respect and gratitude! Love your accent too! I could listen to you all day! Personally, I think you should make TV programs!

Hi Rhys, Great video! How would you decide on whether to fish a CDC vs foam suspender buzzer. Does it come to whether it has to hold up a dropper such as buzzer or are there other things that come in play?
@RhysFishes
@RhysFishes Год назад
Foam suspender buzzers will generally sit deeper in the surface film over a CDC so usually it's a good starting point to fish a sussie buzzer or top hat. Sometimes they'll want the CDC more, it's just a matter of trial and error on the day :)

Hi Rhys just watched your video another great informative one just wondering how long do you tie your droppers and how often do you gink the flies
@RhysFishes
@RhysFishes 3 года назад
6/7 inches. Ginked at the start and reapplied if and when a fish is caught

Excellent video, what are fish eating when they shoot out the water is it fry?
@RhysFishes
@RhysFishes 3 года назад
Could be. But at this time of year it could also be a sign of stress or a fish trying to rid it's body of parasites 👍
@keithelliot3772
@keithelliot3772 3 года назад
For me it's a Klinkhammer on the dropper on a 9' leader and a goldbead on the point, either black brown,green size 12,14,16 keep it simple.

Hello Rhys, another great video but is it for rivers as well ? I fish the Vyrnwy and as a novice have been learning much however with conditions as they are the only rises are at pool ends with 4-5in brownies and 20ft ahead of the shoals of 7in grayling all feeding it seems on greenfly in the surface film, I have gone down to size 18 flies and get some rises but no takes and often see the grayling turn away before the rise but nothing spooks or stops them so what to put on the end of the line is my problem as I have nothing 2mm long lol.....ideas welcome
@RhysFishes
@RhysFishes 3 года назад
This is aimed at stillwaters michael. For the rivers take a look at size 18-20's with very minimalistic dressings. Griffiths knat, klinkhammers and small dries (foam dun) foe example

Hi Rhys, with dry flies do you generally use more than one and if so do you tie them on droppers like buzzers ? Thanks
@RhysFishes

Single fly for small stillwaters. Multiple flies via droppers for large resi's 🎣

Av always fished dry flies as I never got the hang of sinking flies I always seemed to get snagged and never used them again but yesterday I tried it down the river and caught me first brown trout on a gold beaded gold nymph and missed 3 more, I didn't put another dry fly on for the first time ever

Hi Rhys. I know this is a common question but it's one that I haven't found an answer to that has worked for me. How do you keep CDCs floating? I started off ginking but have since read that chemical floatants don't work on CDC. I've tried bringing out the paper towels and elastic bands to try and paper dry them or twang them, hasn't worked. I've tried false casting a lot more, not worked. All that has worked for me is adding a tiny bit of foam on the shank but this obviously changes the look and posture of the fly. I've only tested it in the kitchen sink and not the water. Any suggestions much appreciated!
@brianr9529
@brianr9529 3 года назад
Cdc oil or squeeze the feathers between your fingers. Use more feathers when you tie. Or use foam or polypropylene instead of cdc.
@RhysFishes
@RhysFishes 3 года назад
Sounds like not enough plumes in the fly perhaps. Gink first, after a fish I dry with an amadou / blow air at it and if need be put it in a small tub of foam silica (frogs fanny/loon for example) that does the trick. If that doesn't work then I know i've underdressed the fly at the outset

Just a question to the UK fisherman do u guys need to remortgage yr house each time u have to buy tippet rings??? In SA South Africa they r 🤬ing expensive why?????
@RhysFishes
@RhysFishes 2 года назад
We don’t seem to have that issue here but they aren’t the be all and end all. You can just use a knot to attach both but it will eventually eat away at the tapered leader
