We return to visit Mark at Highland Auto Campers near Inverness to talk about Duvalay sleeping bags, mattress toppers, and mattresses.

Duvalay kindly provided the sleeping bag for this review without charge, but I found choosing which Duvalay Sleeping Bag to have to be a confusing process. Therefore Mark takes us on a Buyer's Guide to Duvalay, explaining the different types, sizes, thicknesses etc. We also look at how big they are when rolled up, so you can check if against your own caravan/motorhome locker.
I then take my Duvalay Sleeping Bag to my caravan to give it a thorough test and review.
As well as a good nights sleep, I also change the cover which some people have reported to be a bit of a faff.

@@KennyTelfer After doing more research I didn't buy one in the end. I bought a double Full Forever mattress topper from Dunelm (light but a decent thickness and no man made materials - folds up nicely) which is so comfortable and I reduced a double duvet cover to size to cover it. I have a double duvet and cover over the top of me that I was using anyway. I was put off by the Duvalay price and I really didn't like the idea of memory foam. Their system seemed complicated to change. The way I've done it I can have the lovely 100% cotton sheets I love and it all stows away very easily.

Our Duvalay mattress and 'gold' mattress topper in our Swift moho actually makes it comfier than ANY bed we've ever owned. Dunno if that says a lot about the beds we've bought, or if Duvalay stuff really that comfortable, but we are very much inclined to agree with the latter. We sleep on our Duvalay bed 7 days a week and have done for a year, and it is an absolute pleasure. We approve almost as much as Dougal does!

We have Duvalays for our VW California and they’ve been great. Used them for over 50 nights away in the last year. They are so good we’ve bought a Duvalay topper for our bed at home.

We do very highly rate our His ‘n Hers Duvalay memory foam sleeping bags - we also went for the comfort range and the higher Tog duvet as we like cool and snuggly too Andrew... 👍🏻 💚 💤

We have a Duvaly mattress and topper. Inevitably subjective, I can genuinely say we find the Duvaly mattress and topper combo guarantee's a good night's sleep.They are supremely comfortable while also being supportive,particularly for shoulder and hip areas where pressure can cause discomfort if not properly supported. Quality products. By the way,it was lovely chatting you and Dougal the other evening Andrew. Ray and Eleanor Finlay ( she's properly starstruck now !!)

I’ve had 2 x Duvalays since they were first launched. I didn’t like the foam insert so took those out. I swap in a 10.5 tog winter weight duvet during winter trips. Yes, changing the duvet insert can be a bit of a challenge. I’m very interested to see the wider versions as I’ve increased the width of my mattress recently so a wider duvalay would be welcome. BUT, looking at the prices it really is cheaper to have a good sheet and duvet and roll them up together

I wish you had made this a few years back when we bought our Duvalay bags. I found it very difficult to navigate my way around the choices on the Duvalay web site and ended up with a compact which is very comfortable but with hindsight I would prefer a wider mattress to fit our single beds. We find the summer weight duvet fine all year round as we have the benefit of Alde heating, we use a blanket in addition if it is really cold. Useful information as always, thank you Andrew.

Brooks: Yep I've just been to the website which (to me) was pretty useless. It doesn't show what the heck you are buying, and they expect you to fork out well over a hundred pounds. However, Andrews vid does show it much clearer. But absolutely would NOT pay thay kind of money for a sleeping bag with an extra layer of foam ... which you can buy for about £40 ‼️‼️🥺🥺

Good video. It's on our list to do a long term review of our Duvalay sleeping beds. We love them only issue is with the duvet as well is't hard work to wrap them down into a good space for us. We have two of them so have to put them on bunks at the back during the day. I have just noticed that you can remove the memory foam as I wonder whether it's worth taking the two memory foam out and getting new covers then using a duvet for myself and my wife.

I have them in my two berth caravan and just leave on the settees covered with a blanket for the dogs, very pleased with them, I don't think the large size was available back when I bought them in 2016, one of the zippers has pulled apart and won't close up, some sewing to do I think!!

I love mine and I have the 66cm one but you have to be Ironman to roll it back the way it came! Bit too big for my van. I have to keep it in the boot of my car or awning in the daytime! ❤️❤️❤️

I love my Duvalay sleeping bag/ mattress topper. I have the 4cm deep one and the medium width. I find it very comfortable and cosy. I have a 2 berth caravan but can't fit the rolled up mattress and sleeping bag under my sofa unfortunately as it is very bulky. I have to keep it in bag in shower. However, I love it and wouldnt change it.

Dougal takes the prime spot on the bed- Hmmm actually so does Ollie our Whippet! I found the information very interesting but wished I had known Duvalays were available in Australia before we spent tons of extra cash upgrading the mattress in our caravan. I'd hate to think how uncomfortable the cheaper mattress was as this one is like sleeping on a bag of rocks. I ended up buying a mattress topper which seems to be ok. At least we can keep the bed made up all of the time. Two top of the range Duvalays with an extra cover each will cost us 500GBP so a bit pricey. Still, after a couple more trips (Covid 19 allowing one day) we may decide the outlay is worth it. happy and safe traveling in the UK.

Hi Andrew. Quick question should I turn my cushions upside down when making the beds up. We use the 2.5 mm Duvalay mattress topper with a home single divas. Thanks for your excellent videos. And lovely Dougal keeps my wife interested. 👍

Depends on the cushions Keith. Some are only designed to be used one side, others can be turned to even wear.

I thought your putting on the cover looked a lot easier than I imagined. You said it was a little harder than just changing a duvet cover. However, if you were using a duvet you would have to also change the bottom sheet or mattress cover. So I would conclude that there is not much difference in the amount of effort required. However, winter duvet in summer? I would just use the duvet cover! So glad to see the Airstream back! Though also sorry to lose Glynnis.

Agree that duvet first works better for me. I also poke it over to the far side & use a couple of clothes pegs to hold it over there :) then shake, then the mattress

Andrew this might be the ticket for my pop up camper / caravan, that I pull with my motorcycle,it’s 6 feet long , maybe 4 feet wide before setup, google Trail master , Aspen deluxe, when setup the bed is a king size, it’s an amazing camper, the 2 cushions that come with it are one step above sleeping on wooden planks, oh you need a big bike to pull ,like a gold wing or BMW GTL 1600 ,or I have a victory cross country tour , I’ve had that thing fallowing me around for 45000 miles, thanks Andrew will they ship to the states.

I genuinely don’t get the Duvalay thing. I bought one 2 years ago and gave up after one season as it was just too much faffing about and I didn’t like being hemmed in on one side. Went back to a separate 50mm cold foam mattress topper and duvet and found that much more practical, more comfortable and just as easy to roll up and store. I gave it a good long try and it just seems to me there must be an element of “emperor’s new clothes” about all the raving. Or is that just first timers who’ve never tried anything else? Just my experience.

I agree with you Andy, I don't get it either, it's just a glorified expensive sleeping bag. I want to feel like I am in my own bed in my caravan. Not camping in a sleeping bag.

I use a Froli mattress under my Duvalay as on its own the Duvalay is insufficiently comfortable on a base of hard seat cushions. Can someone please invent a combination mattress to save me having to set out two of them every night?

Thanks for the review, they are not for me. I want to feel like I am in my own bed with a duvet, fitted sheets and a thin memory foam mattress. I don't want to go back to my camping days in a glorified sleeping bag.

The Duvalay website is poorly designed and does not showcase what is a very good product very well. There are not enough photographs highlighting the differences between the products - so it is difficult what to select. Pillows are also disconnected to another area of the site. Would not take much to streamline the online experience Duvalay !
