Unsure why you categorise 9 as a hybrid, 9 is classic through and through, hell the whole reason it was made was as a swansong to all thr classic final fantasy games rhat came before it

i agree. honestly i wouldn't recommend 10 because the mechanics are more complex considering the sphere grid can be finicky and then managing your party's exp and getting spheres can be time consuming.

9 is the middle child of 7-8-9-10-12. It doesn't get tons of love, and no it's not the best of this group. However, it's genuinely good!! You can see the FR developers getting in their groove in FF9's production. Definitely should play. It's not really hybrid though. 10 is honestly the most hybrid between old and new.

Liege of the lake was a fun challenge 😂 As far as the game goes, it may as well be two different games meshed into one. I loved the whole brotherhood aspect of the party and driving around and exploring. Was not a fan of Chapter 13 and beyond. Superb characters, asthetics and music but it never reached its original vision.

X is probably the best ff to start imo, an amazing story, simple and fun gameplay with having access to the entire party, sphere grid gives you so much freedom when customizing the characters, while a bit liner with exploring the world, the world building is just so good!

@@TroostDesigned welcome! 😁 there's plenty more to enjoy. You can find 1 through 10 and 12 for the switch too. Pixel remaster 1-6, 7 and 8 combo, 9, and 12. I plan on getting them all for the switch soon myself. Mine currently are all for the 1st playstation (ps2 for 10/12) and tend to freeze up in certain areas lol.

Yeah, but that magic system just sucks where you junction magic to boost stats but if you use that magic your stats go back down. Not only that, but spells are treated as items and it isnt like every spell is just easy to get to... who wants to farm 99 of a bunch of spells? The story was good, but imho, 7 was better. 8 just had better FMV quality.

@@michaelhanson5773I love junction and card system. FF vii and ix wins for their story but for gameplay I give it to ffviii you can beat that game almost without levelling up. I love those games that allow us to break their mechanics.

@@michaelhanson5773 i agree that the farming on this game was quite intense...but i would say in defense the game did scale with your level so if you knew what you were doing you didn't have to have 99 of all the spells to beat the game. and also i must say that later when they released the steam version with the cheats build in i enjoyed cruising exploring and easy going on it!

@michaelhanson5773 the junction system is practically cheat. It's genius actually. There're tons of magic you don't use for junction, and as you get more magic, you junction different kinds and you can use those you don't junction. There's so much to discover in this system.

I was in 6th grade in 97' when ff7 came out. I learned english with it, had a dictionary next to it since my mom was annoyed whenever I bothered her to translate. After that I have played each of them. Games are amazing.

4 or 6 definitely is my starting point recommendation. In fact i started with 4. Granted it was the 3d version but in a way it taught me _all_ the gameplay depth mechanics in the franchise

I'm taking a friend through the whole series and we started with 7. A middle point that was extremely familiar (they played Kingdom Hearts) and from there, go in numerical order for a where we came from and where we go kinda vibe. :)

Honestly I would say 9 is a spectacular game for people to try. It has an ability system that rewards players in a way that no other game in the series does, the story is great, They have the GOAT party member Vivi, it pays homage to the older games and the cross between medieval, steampunk and high fantasy is just brilliantly done. It unfortunately had the misfortune of being kinda underrated because of 7 and 8. A large number of people refused to play it based on the art design which is kinda sad in my opinion

I agree with everything you said! 9 is my favorite FF. But for all those reasons above, I personally think that 9 could be best enjoyed after you play at least 2 or 3 of the games released before it. So much charm of the game comes from the homage it pays to the previous entry's

The FF1 reference with those 4 bosses late game (Avoiding names on the off chance someone would get spoiled) was just brilliant, and the reference to 2 in the last dungeon. There were so many little things. I feel they add greatly. My only personal failing is Amarant... He felt like such a wasted character. Quina at least had some minor stuff to do and was a decent comic relief. That said he was decent mechanically in the game. I do feel the previous game knowledge isn't mandatory but it does enhance the experience.

6 is definitely the best to start with because it retains the classic fantasy world (kings, castles, airships) with a few modern and Industrial touches that imo freshened up the place. Along with an amazing story and great character development 6 sets the standard

I'd start you off with 9. Great story and game play. Beautiful developed world. Many side quests that can and will lead you to secret bosses that WILL wreak you if your not careful, but are insanely rewarding when put down. Well developed characters that show there weakness and damage as much as their heart and bravery.

I recently just watched an interview of the voice of Barnabas from FF16! And he was asked the same question of which FF you should play first and he quoted one of the original (I believe) community managers from Final Fantasy. And he or she said: just play whichever you wanna play. If you wanna start with 16, then 16 will be your entrance into the world of Final Fantasy :) I loved this because it’s true!

FFX is what I usually answer with. It's entirely turn based, so it's beginner friendly. The characters are varied and likeable. The story is engaging and explores it's themes well. Aaaand, I just like how it handles summons.

FFX was my first Final Fantasy experience. It came out when I was probably 11-12 or so. Up to that point, I sincerely didn't realize that video games could be works of art. It still didn't dawn on me until some time after I experienced something profound.

started with Final fantasy 13 and I don't care what everyone says: I love this game. Yes it's linear but I absolutly love the story and the characters. Same goes for FF13-2 (not so much for lightning returns sadly). After that I played FF10. My favourite, it's beautiful, I love the combat system etc. Final fantasy 7 is a must play. Wonderful story, epic combat system, sephiroth is iconic etc. 8 and 9 are so underrated. 15 has a good story but to me I didn't enjoy it as much as many other parts. 6 is a pretty good starter game I think.

If I'm inviting a beginner to play a classic FF it'd be 9 and 10. Very nice looking games, engaging story, great music, accessible gameplay. I think they'll turn away easily from the 2D ones if we're talking about beginners or casual players.

I'm the type of person who, if I want to get into a series as a whole, I have to get invested into one of the games. Like Persona. I couldn't get into the other games but then played 5 and I was able to enjoy the other games. If you're like me in that aspect, you should start with 7. It's gameplay is fun and the story is super good.

I actually started with 6 then 5,4, then 3. Though I agree starting with low numbers for one to know the game of being able to choose a job system than a fix character Job. Still all stories are great!!! Now that I have a switch I got 7 and 12 the zodiac age. Though I havent finished any of them yet.

9 or 10 are the best entry. since everything before had open world and where more then just confusing to get around. there are no quest trackers, no Pin's where to go next, and if you made a brake for like 10 days, you dont remembre where to go.

I would recommend ff6 as a starting point. The OG final fantasy is good but i can't recommend it for someone new to the franchise. Start with FF6 to get you hooked to the franchise. Then try ff7 - ff9 - ff10 - ff16.

Honestly if you want to enjoy a FF game in terms of modern RPG action gaming start with 15 it's not the best but it's not the worst But it has a lot of content and the world exploring is amazing it's really great to be introduced to the franchise
