Hey Jedha I know you really don't care too much about the box but since you have extra heads of Maul. I think it could be a cool display if you can find away to stand one of those heads to look out and have some of troopers walking beside it with Ahsoka. Just my thoughts. Keep up the work👍
Me and my wife recently started collecting HT (about a year ago) and we both like maul, however TPM and Solo Maul are impossible to find unless you pay huuuge amounts of money for so we went for CW maul and we are happy to get him.
I can definitely tell you which isn't... this one, I can't believe they used the old scrawny body that they made for The Wolverine figure... it even has the chest hair sculpt And the Solo one is whatever, so EPI Maul is the one, still the best, the one you should have if you have to choose
I do not know whose great idea was do not put the darksaber and with this Darth Maul. Out of every character he's the one that should have it the most. I just scored one on eBay from Hong Kong so I'm hoping it doesn't take too long to get here. Cuz I already got some ideas for posing him and its fight against Sidious. You need the darksaber in The Phantom Menace half lightsaber hith. You can pose him like the Revenge of the Sith Anakin crossing blades. That's just one quick little set up I have in mind.
"Picks up a lot of dust, and lint..." That's true for all figures dressed in black! 😏 Although the Solo Maul's legs look cool, the Clone War's legs make more sense - why would you have the wires exposed whhere they could be damaged? For that matter, why are C3PO's innards exposed, too?
By far my favorite head sculpt is this Sinister looking Phantom Menace, spot on Ray Park. Followed closely by the screaming Maul. I really don't see a difference besides the color of red that used on the Clone Wars Darth Maul to the Crimson Dawn Darth Maul. But they're all insanely awesome!
About the box Ryan, it's about the care and creativity around the product the manufacturer is demonstrating to its customers. They recognize how special these items are to their niche audience in the market that feeds them. I appreciate the effort and care into the whole package 📦 myself. Brother, I have been collecting for 45 years and I will tell you these last five years has been a golden age for 1/12 and 1/6 collects. Trust me, Hot Toys deserves our praise and respect in this regard. It is not a bad thing at all. It's all about your perspective 😉🤓👊🏿
I agree, as a designer myself, I geek out over creative packaging almost as much as I geek out over the actual product. It's why I have a hard time throwing away quality packaging design, whether it's cardboard or not.
I’m interred to unbox and actually mess with the figure, but i really love the idea of posing him locked away with the Courscant Guards as a display centerpiece.
@@JedhaPatrol Always. You know me on the Freaks forums as "The Waste Time Contimuum" (WTC). I'm mostly in the "Star Wars - Custom Figures & Dioramas" section. I'm currently working on a 1/6 screen accurate Fett helmet.
I've had my Phantom Menace Darth Maul since he came out in my detolf no dust on him at all. Just take a feather duster to him everyday no more dust. I dust my whole collection everyday I don't have many 12, with 3 more coming, takes me about 10 min to run the feather duster over them.
Maul's torso is obviously a lighter shade of red because Hot Toys intended for it to be. Yes, this is in fact the best detail on the figure. You see, if he's wearing that black sith robe all the time, he's not particularly likely to get much exposure to the sun. He just has more of a tan on his head, that's all. - The Hot Toys quality control team
The difference in color of the head and body makes sense as his head is obviously more exposed to sunlight. If it was purposely done , which I think it is, it's a genius move, not a flaw.
Very disappointed in this release. Maul is one of my favorites but the head sculpt is just lazy. I have two phantom mauls and one solo. Think I would rather get another solo than this.
The head and body are different tones because the body is molded in red. The head is molded in black. I repainted the red parts white, then red and looks much better. Phantom Menace Maul is too hefty. He isn't that big in the film. And the screaming sculpt is comical. Solo Maul is my favorite.
If they was going to create another Darth Maul from the Clone Wars they should have created one where he is the new ruler of Mandalore and give him a throne and the darksaber
I mean this is the exact same look he has when he was the new ruler of Mandalore so all you would need to to get the Darksaber from a Moff Gideon figure and use that.
To me the best Darth Maul 6 scale figure will always be from Phantom Menace that's the only one I would want to get my hands on I wish they would do a re-release of that
I’ve worked outside most of my adult life so when I take off my shirt my chest is 3 or so shades lighter than my face lol. Maybe Clone Wars Maul did manual labor in another life 😂.
Personally I think the Phantom Menace maul looks the best face sculpt said. The Solo Maul is probably the coolest. The CW Maul just looks way too skinny in my opinion when displayed shirtless. I obviously don’t have these figures to compare but still. Being as the only one is currently available from retailers, I’d pick the CW one but idk. He needs to drink some milk.
I guess not to waste a very good box if you already have a Darth Maul use one of the head Scopes and Scotch tape it inside of that Mandalorian box and have that as a display
Taking into account that they went for more of a realistic version of Maul, I would have liked to see more mechanical details to his legs. Like ,for example, pistons or cables between the metal plates.
That particular armor is from death watch and it's very refined and sleek. No wires or pistons. All his other tech legs (especially solo) have that look
The sarcophagus was a cool thing but to use it they should have given a second headsculpt. Similar to Pennywise. I think for me solo maul and phantom menace are my go to. And I love clone wars
Hey Ryan you brought up a good point on those leather wrist peg pieces on maul, let me ask did you do that on your other mauls too and is ir better because that's honestly something I hate as well is those on my tpm maul
Thanks for the review. I can tell in your voice your not impressed with this figure. Lol… I’m still thinking if I want to get this figure. I don’t like the color difference between face red and body red. I think Hot Toys is getting a bit lazy. Or didn’t care much about this Maul!
Phantom menace maul is the best for me. The new ones head is too big for his body, the single jointed elbows, the reused head sculpt, the mismatched paint, the lack of weathering. Eat pass for me. And the solo maul is cool too but not as cool as the phantom menace maul.
When they announced it I wasnt interested cause of the reused head, but later I reconsidered since I didnt have OG Maul figure and I wanted one to go with Ahsoka. Then my brother bought OG Maul from someone anyways.
You can replace those pleather wrist bits by using black nylon. Glue one end into the gauntlets, and make a tiny hole on the other end for the wrist peg "nipple." The nylon is super thin, and does the same job as the pleather (hiding the wristlet), but with less bulk.
I'm just like you I don't like single jointed elbows on my figure seamless arms and double jointed elbows or the future of figures and should be on every single figure #nomoresingle jointedelbows
why would you need to display the figure in the box, when you can just print his eyes and stick onto it LOL booooomb you got two darth maul display for 300 XD
He actually should have the same saber as he has on the solo fig or that saber he has would be cut in half and he’d also have the dark saber but when he fought Ashoka he had savage’s saber the one he has on the solo fig
Besides being a RU-vidr Why do you guys buy figures you don't like and constantly talk shit about? Just to resell them back to your Facebook groups. But collect what you like right? Lame
Figure reviewers provide a service to the consumer (you), at no cost to you. Figure reviewers buy lots of stuff they do and don't like because they want to inform the consumer (you) about the quality of the product. After the job is finished they may sell the product they reviewed, or keep it. The opinions of any reviewer are simply the perspective of said reviewer. Consumers watching the review (you) then take the opinion of the reviewer into consideration. After watching several reviews about a product you can then make an informed decision as a consumer. You may not necessarily agree with every reviewer, that is okay. No one is harmed in any way by this system.
